Cat's Cradle
To start off, this show was CRAZY. In a good way. I'll start at the beginning...
My dad, my friend Kathryn (aka Chao), and I got to the Cat's Cradle at 12:30, or so. No sign of the buses though, so I found the people I was meeting there (Kateland and Jacqueline and a few others) and we sat outside for a while. Fortunately there was lots of shade, though, cause it was almost 90 degrees. At about 2:50, one bus comes. We all get excited for a bit, but then we just realize it's just the crew bus. We hang out for a while, and I meet a lot of other fans, whose names I've forgotten already... oops. Sometime between 4:00-5:30 David's bus comes. We get all excited and sneak our way up to the front of the line with Milli (she invited us...). For a long time, we watch David and the band walking back and forth between the bus and inside and moving boxes and equipment. Kateland calls Neal and asks for him to sign her CD, but he says after the show. Joey and Andy head to this BBQ place across the parking lot. We call for them, but they say after the show too. We didn't follow them to the BBQ place, though. They deserve some privacy
At one point Ryan during that comes out. We go up to him, and Kateland asks for a picture. He's like of course. Then she asks "Can I wear your glasses?" He was wearing these adorable white heart-shaped glasses (which he later said during the show was the best $9 he's ever spent at Target) and he let her wear them.I ask him to sign my CD, and he does. I tell him it's my birthday (cause it really was : D) and he's like "Oh, happy birthday!" Then I get a picture with him, and then he, Kateland, Chao, Jacqueline, and I get a picture all together. As we start to walk away, he says to me "Nice shirt!" (I was wearing a To Have Heroes t-shirt that I made myself) I'm like "Thanks!" Ryan's so sweet!
Nothing much happens for a while. We sit outside for a long time. At one point, Jacqueline and I go to the bathroom in the pizza place next to the venue, and we're waiting because someone is in there, and the man behind the counter says "I think he just got off the bus!" And Jacqueline and I are like "WHAT?" and the guy's like "No, I'm just kidding." I say "Don't do that! You almost gave me a heart attack!" It was funny.
We stand outside for a few more hours. We listened to soundcheck. They soundchecked Anodyne, and then I kept hearing Last Train Home like a TON of times, with the band. I was confused because 1) I knew Ryan was accoustic tonight, and 2) Why so many times? Well, at 8:00 the doors FINALLY open. We go inside, and get in the second row on Andy's side. We were SO close, it was fantastic! Anyways. It was cooler in there than outside for a while, and it felt really good, but then after so many people packed in, it was HOT. But it was tolerable.
Well, Ryan comes on, and he was, needless to say, REEEEALLY good! He was solo accoustic, cause they left the band in Texas? He came out wearing those sunglasses still. I was so happy when he played "So Ordinary" and "Take A Ride With Me," they were awesome. During "Take A Ride With Me," he brought a girl onstage to play tambourine and she wore his sunglasses. I'd been standing with her outside the venue for a while, but I didn't catch her name... Anyways. The crowd was so loud, and singing along to most of Ryan's songs. It was great. Ryan bantered a lot. He's hilarious. His set seemed long, and it made me very happy, cause Ryan has become one of my favortie singers since I got his CD at my first DC concert. After that, it was really hot, but the woman in front of me had a Flat 70s Andy, which she kept fanning herself with.
Then, David came out. We all went WILD. I thought my eardrums were about to bust! After he sang "Heroes," the first song, he just sat down on the drums' platform thing and listened to us all. We were all going insane, it was great. Then continued the show. I was so happy when we got Anodyne, AND Little Lies! And someone had a sign that said "Dave, my son was on your myspace!" David's like "What's that mean, did he hack my myspace or something?" It was talking about the video of the little boy on his myspace. He's like "Can I keep that?" and she hands it to him. Then he sees the back, which says "I'm here for Skibby!" Then Dave and Andy get into, like, a little battle. David accuses Andy of voting for Michael Johns, and Andy's saying things back. He and the band were really talkative tonight! In the end, David says "I just can't compete with this." And squishes Andy's cheeks. It was SO CUTE! And I got a picture of it! They were right in front of me too. And I think it was before Anodyne, he told a story about this woman who gave him a Cardinal's hat, but he had to promise to play two songs (Avalanche and Anodyne). He and Artie proceeded to burn the that later that day. Turns out the woman was the one with Flat 70s Andy right in front of us! How funny. And then Ryan came out and sang Last Train home on the encoure. David explained that they soundchecked it 5 times because Joey had been sick. (Hence why I kept hearing it so much.) And they were GREAT! Then they finished with LO. At the end, David's says, "I think we need some medical help over here," pointing to someone in the crowd. A woman had fainted! They took her away on an ambulance. She probably just overheated, because it was HOT inside. Reeeally hot. But it was all worth it.
Afterwards, we stood outside for a long time and hung out with Ryan. The police started making people leave, saying David wasn't coming out, but my group stayed until almost everyone was gone, and after that we sat in the car for like 10 more minutes until it was empty. No sign of David or any of the band though, so I missed my chance to meet David a second time.
Overall, the concert was FANTASTIC. I have a new best day of my life!

Thanks so much!
Loved reading your recap! Sounds like one heck of a show. Love how talkative the band was! I hope they keep that up!
Awesome!
So glad you had a good time! Sounds like it was an awesome show. I love all your pictures. I actually made a banner out of the one of David squishing Andy's cheeks. I'd use it in DCO if the signatures were working! LOL
Thanks for the Great review!!
That is to bad you didnt get to meet David. But Everything else sounded so Much Fun. I wonder why the places they play someone should have the air conditioner up high with so many people crowed in right next to each other. I have read DC say how hot it is in different places and fans. Im going to see him in San Diego concert. Its a out door one.A fair ground so a big venue. I dont know for the bigger places if he comes out to meet and greet. But still so Excited to see him in concert! : ) Good Pics!!!!
