This is the living (kind of) glossary for CJT. Please add more in the comments, or suggest edits, or you know, whatever.

CJT: Chart James Thread. Inside joke for, um, this thread. I'm not sure that a brief description can give this full justice, so here's a link to the blog detailing the "Thread War" drummed up between the Chart Thread and DWoP, then known as TWoP 2.0.

AAA: Adult Alternative radio format.

AC: Adult Contemporary radio format.

AcousticDave: The beautiful, acoustic rock side of DC's music.

Add: When a station places a song on its playlist. A station can play a song before it adds it to its playlists, and in fact, some stations "auto-add" songs when they have spun them a certain number of times. Songs that are released to a particular format get an "add date," which labels hope will be a trigger for many stations to add them, but stations can add a song prior to that date, or after that date. If you look at the add history for Magic Rainbow and LO, you'll see a broad period of time for adds.

AH: Analog Heart, DC's released indie solo album. Not to be confused with his second sooper sekrit unreleased indie solo album. Which we wouldn't mind getting our hands on. Anyway, AH is great, and songs from it do sometimes get referenced and DC played at least one AH song (Straight Ahead) on his first solo tewer, and right now, tons of DC fans are praying that their particular favorite AH song will be performed live by DC & the EEB.

AI: Elsewhere, means "American Idol." On CJT and various music sites, means "audience impressions." Measure for airplay.

AllAccess: www.allaccess.com is a website featuring radio information and news, including add dates, callout information, mediabase spin rankings, and streetpulse numbers.

Andy: Andy Skib, guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist/vlog videographer for the EEB. Also, former lead singer of MWK, solo artist as "To Have Heroes," and long-time buddy of DC.

Axium: DC's first band, initially formed in the Kansas City area. Want to know more about Axium? Livehead16 has an awesome resource page that should pretty much set you up.

BB aka Billboard: Source for many a ranking that we follow. Helpful wiki link.

Anthemics, The - In August 2009, Cook told various DJs that this new name for the band was being "tried out," and the name is now used regularly by fans. However, it does not yet appear in any official materials such as the label's web site announcements or merchandise.

BBS, aka Bar-Ba-Sex: Bar-Ba-Sol. The third single issued off of DCTR---kind of 2.5, as it is a dual release with CBTM/Windy, but that was revealed subsequent to the news coming out about CBTM. Well, the nickname started as BBS because, well, that's shorter. And that's what you'll usually see used on CJT because, well, that's shorter. But some people also call it Bar-Ba-Sex. I can't imagine why....

Boat Anchor (Golden): Nickname for LO (see below).

BOR, or BO'R: Baba O'Riley, classic Who song performed by DC on Idol. Also a reference to something fantastic getting cut short and causing immense pain in those who wanted it to keep going, i.e., being BOR'd or Baba O'd.

Bouncy Dave: Music video for LO. Because it stars Dave. And he bounces. And, you know, that's a pretty good thing.

BT: Breathe Tonight

Callout: Surveys of music listeners through sites such as www.ratethemusic.com, where you can rate different songs (often including DC songs). "Callout combines scores for popularity, familiarity, and burnout (how many people are tired of hearing the song)." (Source.)

CBTM aka Windy: Come Back to Me, the second single issued off of DCTR. (See also Windy.)

Certification: The RIAA certifies songs and albums as gold (500,000), platinum (1 million), or multi-platinum. Digital download certifications are based on actual sales---so, a gold single (as an example) is the equivalent to 500,000 digital downloads sold of that song to end users. Album certifications are based on units shipped (with digital downloads counting as "shipments"). This means that a record may be certified at a given level before Soundscan reflects that number of sales. As an example, DCTR was certified as platinum before Soundscan reflected 1 million in sales. There is a process for certification, such that the label has to apply for certification at a certain level, and then the RIAA checks the data. This means that there can be a gap in time between a single or record hitting a particular milestone and it being certified for that milestone.

CHR/Pop: Contemporary Hits Radio, aka, Top 40

CookWood: Reference to a duet of Fleetwood Mac's Go Your Own Way by DC and Carrie Underwood at Disney World. Also, those of us who lean a bit more country (or just like a well-done blend of two excellent voices) are fervently hoping for more CookWood in the future. [C'mon, SMGF. You know you wanna.]

DC=42: This was something that was born on TWoP, and came over to DCO with the Twoppers, many of whom also hang out on CJT. And I can't really do it justice, but here's my best try: People started noticing DC-related stuff popping up in their regular lives. Songs he'd sung. Tulsa- or Kansas City-related stuff. Etc. 42 is a reference to The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where 42 is the answer to Ultimate Question to Life, The Universe and Everything. So, when someone says "DC=42," it's shorthand for DC being interconnected to your life.

DCTB: David Cook, the Brand. All of the things that SMGF (see below), RCA, 19, and DC are doing to market DC as having a particular image, etc. Marketing, strategy, yeah, we'll talk about it.

DCTD: So, DC acquired a Scottie puppy (or puppeh!), whom he named Dublin. Dublin is quite adorable. But we're CJT, and we could not help but notice that Dublin Cook the Dog could be turned into an acronym. And so we did. In related news, DCTD would like some bling (aka "Dubling") and Sasha and other dog owners would like to get some DCTD merch.

DCTR: David Cook, the Record. Before they announced the title, DC kept referring to it as "the record." Therefore, so did we. And then it turned out to be self-titled. So we started referring to it as David Cook, the Record. Which is long. So we made it an acronym.

DeTour: Declaration Tour, aka, the college tour occurring from February through April 2009.

EEB: Easy on the Eyes Band. Fan nickname for DC's band. Which, you know, is aesthetically pleasing in more ways than one.

F4: Lie. Basically, I have been, um, forcefully advocating for the release of Lie as a single since, oh, about Day 1 of the DCTR era. So, Bigelow suggested that Lie's nickname be F4, meaning FolkFanFaveForevah. Someone put F4 in wikipedia and discovered that F4 is also the name for a Lie Group, a mathematical term that I shall not try to explain, but which apparently has something to do with mapping, which is ever-so-appropriate, as my plot is for Lie to take over the world. We all shivered and agreed that F4 was the nickname.

Flamethrower: Allegedly, the Magic Rainbow has one. Be afraid, y'all. Be very afraid.

FMQB: www.fmqb.com is another website that features radio news and information, rather like AllAccess, above.

FTW: For The Win. There is a variation: FTMFW, but I'm not going to spell that out, y'all.

GNYOTY: Good night, you old thread, you. First said by bobs mom, now a popular saying at the end of the posting day.

Gratitewer: AI7 summer tour. See also "Tewer."

HAC: Hot Adult Contemporary, aka, Adult Top 40

HDD aka FHDD: Hits Daily Double. Releases estimates of sales on a weekly basis. When it has delays, we add the F to the start. You can guess what that means.

[Holding up a] Scottie (or other puppy): A particularly CJT way of expressing that a post should be taken as a joke. Refers to Cook's decision to name his Scottish terrier Dublin because he thought it would be funny, and the confusion when several people didn't recognize the humor as such.

Hugz the Rainbow: This popped up right around the time of the Rainbow's birthday celebration, and seems to have a variety of uses: expressing discomfort with a particular topic, trying to express friendliness after giving an opinion with which other posters may disagree, wanting to, you know, hug Magic Rainbow, who is always in the market for some good hugz.

IDIFY aka Diddy aka Yo Fault aka Fo Yo: I Did It For You. Lil Sparrow came up with Diddy, SybilT came up with Yo Fault, and to be honest, I don't know who came up with Fo Yo.

IttyBittyDave, aka George: The Slot Music DCTR. When LadyM bought hers, she announced that she was going to cuddle it and name it George.

Joey: Joey Clement, former bassist for the EEB.

KotN: Kiss on the Neck

Kyle: Kyle Peek, drummer for the EEB. If you see a reference to "Animal" going nuts on the drums, that would be a reference either to Kyle or to a certain muppet. Or, perhaps, both.

LadyM aka Chart Maven aka LadyMadonna: Our fearless leader.

LO aka Golden Boat Anchor aka the Zen Master aka Zenny: Light On, the first single off of DCTR. There were some who doubted LO, with some even terming it a "boat anchor," a term that we number nerds appropriated and made into one of affection. But then it was noted that LO was calmly moving up the Top 40 chart, like a Zen Master, taking its place in the top 20. And thus the real nickname was born: Zenny, ignoring all doubters, a top 20 hit on two formats (Top 40 and AC) and top 5 on a third (HAC).

LOCOs: Lurkers / Occasional Contributors and Outsiders. Term suggested by torontofan for people who hang out on but don't post regularly on CJT. It amused me, so I'm adding it to the glossary. Cuz I can do that.

Magic Rainbow aka Time of My Life aka ToML aka Oggy aka the Ninja aka Magic F'g Platinum Ninja Rainbow aka MFPNR aka the Rainbow: DC's coronation single, which we believe to be a covertly aggressive ninja assassin. Also, the best-selling coronation single of all time, the coronation single with the best chart placement and life on AC (52 weeks, including 15 weeks at #1, 26 weeks in the top 3, 35 weeks in the top 5, and 45 weeks in the top 10, followed by 16 weeks thus far on the AC recurrent chart, where Magic Rainbow collected his fourth Billboard #1 and DC's fifth Billboard #1 overall) and HAC (20 weeks, peaking at #7, followed by 12 weeks on the HAC recurrent chart), the coronation single with the best chart life on Top 40 (18 weeks, peaking at #28), and the only coronation single to become recurrent-eligible on the Hot 100 by charting for 20 weeks, after which Magic Rainbow has racked up 17 weeks thus far on the Hot Recurrent Singles chart. Why, yes, we are proud of Magic F'g Platinum Ninja Rainbow. And not just because he keeps issuing elegantly grizzled growls and gurgley snarls, throwing super-sharp ninja shooting stars, and tweeting.

Mediabase: Monitors airplay. Source for USA Today radio format charts.

Mel aka Sporty Cook: Nickname for Heroes. There was a discussion on CJT about Heroes use for sporting events. Someone commented that s/he loved "Sporty Cook." Snickering occurred, and it was noted that that kind of sounded like a Spice Girl. [The Spice Girls, coincidentally enough, were managed by SMGF. But I digress.] Someone else pointed out that Sporty Spice's name was Mel. And so a new nickname was born.

MLR: My Last Request (currently soliciting silly nicknames)

Monkfish: Basically, a peculiarly CJT way of saying, "You're beating a dead horse." Monkfish (while tasty if cooked the right way) is spectacularly ugly. You really don't want to see it. So, if someone calls "monkfish," they are suggesting that a topic is dead and ugly and should be retired. Although, with the exception of requesting that people stay more or less on topic and also avoid trashing other blogs and websites, we don't really have the right to stop people from talking about topics that they find interesting.

Monty: Monty Anderson. Bassist touring with David Cook as of August, 2009, replacing Joey. Part of Cook's circle of collaborators in Tulsa, he worked previously with David during the making of Analog Heart.

MWK, aka Midwest Kings: Former Tulsa-based band, led by Andy and Neal. DC was a rhythm guitarist/bassist/back-up vocalist for MWK after college/Axium and around the same time that he was working on Analog Heart.

Namesake: The contestant who came in second on AI Season 7, aka DA, aka David Archuleta. At some point, it seemed like we were talking about him too much. So it was suggested that we not do so. Someone interpreted that to mean, "stop naming him by name," and started referring to him as "He Who Shall Not Be Named." That was far too Voldemortian for such a sweet kid, so someone suggested the Namesake. Which, you know, we thought was funny.

NFT: Nickname for Neal Tiemann, lead guitarist for the EEB and intriguing songwriter. Two guesses what the "F" stands for, and frankly, if you need both, I'll be surprised. He is also called "The Doctor" by DC, but we don't know why.

NSDCLDC: "Nobody Sells David Cook Like David Cook," tm Scott. Basically, put David Cook on a show or in front of an audience, or get someone to listen to his music, and he'll do the best job of selling himself that anyone possibly could.

OABO: Our Accessory Bedazzled Overlord. Nickname for DC, based on his sometimes blingtastic style.

OGFAR: Oh, Go F*ck a Rainbow. Um, a battle cry against naysayers. Also, I don't recommend trying that. Our Rainbow is both armed and belligerent.

Pulse: An online forum where interested parties (many of whom are amateurs, but some of whom obviously have access to industry information) track sales and airplay statistics for various artists. Often a source of leaked Soundscan/Billboard data that is earlier/more detailed than is available in the general press.

Quickcut: Chart put out by Mediabase every morning which details spins in different formats for all songs getting airplay. This includes both "monitored" and "unmonitored" spins, so that it does not match up to charts, but it is one way of monitoring the total spins and airplay of a song on any given day.

R&R aka Radio & Records: Monitors airplay. Source for Billboard radio format charts.

Recurrent: When a song has lasted a specified amount of time on a given chart and has dropped beneath a particular number on that chart, it gets removed and monitored on a separate list.

RTM: www.ratethemusic.com Features weekly "callout" surveys for various radio formats, where you can rate songs (often including DC songs).

Hey DCTR is platinum, DCTR is platinum, DCTR is platinum, DCTR is platinum. In a year when I lost half my retirement savings DCTR is platinum. Good job David. Yes. I really don't care about other artists except to see how things are going for them as it relates to David. It goes something like this I am planting a vegetable garden and my tomatoes are not getting ripe and I can not figure out why. Well I go to my neighbor and say s*** man my tomatoes are green and not ripening this year and my neighbor tells me his are green too. Okay so there is nothing wrong with my tomatoes just the climate that the tomatoes are growing in. So I like to check out the other tomatoes from time to time to get my bearings. Like the climate in the northwest the climate in the record industry is pretty cool this year but DCTR is ripening dudes it is ripening. : )

SMGF: David's manager Simon "Mad Genius" Fuller, aka, Sasha's favorite person in the whole wide world, with the exception of David Cook, whom she views as more speshul. (Sorry, SMGF. Please give us access to sooper sekrit numbers and other information anyway.)

Soundscan: System which collects data on sales of records across the country and the basis for the Billboard album charts. Helpful wiki link.

Spincrease: Measure of how many spins a song has added or lost in a given 7-day period on a particular radio format.

Sporty Cook: Heroes. See also "Mel" (above).

Street Violations: Copies of DCTR sold before it was technically available for sale. They count toward his overall sales, but not toward his first week's sales.

Streetpulse: Monitors sales trends on a daily basis for small and internet retailers, including Amazon. As we understand it, it maybe covers about 20% of the market. Unlike Billboard (which measures sales from Monday through Sunday), Streetpulse compares sales from Tuesday through Monday. Because it looks at a fairly small part of the market, and does not include the retailers that are the strongest sources for DCTR sales (e.g., Wal-Mart and Best Buy), we report on Streetpulse numbers, but warn against getting too excited about them, regardless of whether they are strong or weak, i.e., "standard Streetpulse disclaimers."

TATIC: The Awesome That Is Cook. Not sure who came up with this, so stand up, oh, creative one.

Tewer: Any DC tour, including the DeTour (see above) and the AI Tour, aka the Gratitewer/Homage du Fromage. Also, our little tribute to DC's midwestern accent.

Thomas aka Tommy: Declaration. Basically, the chain of thought (courtesy of sky) is Thomas Jefferson = the author of the Declaration of Independence = Declaration.

TPTB: The Powers That Be.

TWIK: The World I Know, originally by Collective Soul, performed by DC as his final song as a competitor on AI7. TWIK became one of DC's victory lap songs in his post-win tour of various media.

Windy: Nickname for Come Back to Me, the second single off of DCTR, and third single for DC. A reference to the line the "wind in your hair," which caused a lot of debate on CJT. Windy's life as a single has only just begun, and he is currently attempting to survive DC Single Boot Camp with his older brothers, Magic Rainbow and Zenny. How will Windy's chart life turn out? Will he follow in his older brothers' footsteps as a multi-format success? Will he establish any new, higher benchmarks? Will Magic Rainbow succeed in turning him into a lean, mean fighting machine? He's made a good start, debuting on Idol on 4/1/2009, and hitting the Hot 100 the very next week. Currently flying up the HAC chart (21 weeks on and up to #7), debuted on the AC chart (16 weeks on and up to #19), and reappearing on the Hot 100 (17 weeks total, thus far).

Y'all: Elegant second-person plural pronoun, often connected to the southern region of the United States, but sweeping the nation, y'all.

ydniW: Nickname for the video for CBTM, aka Windy. It's "Windy" backwards, because it has reverse footage in it.

YMMV: Your mileage may vary, which is another way of saying, just my opinion. People have lots of opinions on CJT.... and we are definitely not shy about sharing them.

Yo Arms: I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight. Awesome cover, y'all.

Yo Face: First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, best known as being performed by Roberta Flack, performed by DC as Simon Cowell's Judge's Choice on Top 3 night. Also used to serenade Hillary Clinton as the Glamour Women of the Year awards in November 2008.

Zenny or Zen Master: Pet nicknames for LO, based on his calm, zenlike move on the charts. A wee bit less aggressive than his older brother, the Magic Rainbow. Strike the "A wee bit." But, you know, pretty effective in the end. Zenny sold platinum as of August 31, 2009. He hit top 20 on both AC (28 weeks charted before going recurrent, followed by 3 weeks on the AC Recurrent chart) and Top 40 (20 weeks and recurrent-eligible), and top 5 on HAC (26 weeks charted and 14 weeks on HAC Recurrent thus far). Charted for 20 weeks on the Hot 100, after which it went recurrent (charting for 10 weeks to date as a recurrent single).
