JUL-04-09 (Sat) DIXIE LANDIN’ THEME PARK (Baton Rouge, LA) -- twitter rpts, live blogging, recaps, photos, vids, reviews, etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WILL BE POSTED IN THE FIRST PINNED REPLY TO THIS THREAD
Hey everyone! I thought I'd create a discussion thread for each stop of the Declaration Tour in an effort to keep the boards organized and help everyone more easily find info related to each event (and have a record of everything in one place for anyone wanting to look back on these events sometime in future). The following is how these threads will work (subject to change):
>> Thread pinned to the top of or on the main David Cook Discussion forum for 24-48 hrs
>> Thread moved and pinned to the top of or on the main Tour Talk forum for 24-48 hrs
>> Thread moved to its respective regional Tour Talk forum
If, for some reason, a thread isn't moved right away, it will be eventually.
What should be posted here? Related local radio/tv/press, on-site reports/photos, live blogging, recaps, media and fan reviews, links to related blogs, event photos/videos, etc., etc.
Please post links to photos instead of embedding them and please disable graphic footers as this will make the thread easier to read (especially when live blogging). Regarding PRE-SHOW sound check and set list spoilers, please either PM me the info so that I may post it as hidden text in the first pinned reply or, alternatively, if I am not hosting or not here for whatever reason, then please post the spoilers to a blog and link that blog back to this thread in your reply.
As always, I welcome comments/questions, as well as info, via PM. Thank you. ~Lisa
RockMommy, best thing for you to do is put all the pictures somewhere like Photobucket. If you upload them all there, you can just give us the link to your photo album and then we can see them.
Yeah, I watched security make people stop taking videos. They were trying! Just saw on the Gavleston radio interview that David got so hot in Baton Rouge that he had to be cooled down before he went back out for the encore...
Thank You So Much to the ones that can give us Video.and for Everything : )
I have a short video of Ryan and David singing together but I am in LA visiting relatives (had to use a hotel computer for this ) and won't be back until after the HOB show. I do have the complete show on my mp3 voice recorder and hope to have the HOB one too for you. The recording is really clear because the speaker noise is filtered out. Boquet told most of the events but the sight of David on the pile of speakers singing the last set of woas for ADAM was amazing. He was absolutely radiating happiness and joy. One amazing thing was that Neal and David did not miss one beat of the song while the shaving cream thing happened. Here is an interesting statement that David made while introducing Souvenir : ...hope you will hear this in the near, not too distant future. I told my friend, who hadn't been to a concert before, to watch for David looking directly at everyone. She was sitting down during a song and he looked right at her and motioned for her to get up. This show had so much energy and David took the time to listen to parts of the opening act and Ryan. Most of the people there were seeing David for the first time and I am sure they went away as real fans.
Brazilian Word Nerds
one of the fans just posted on twitter that she has a few short videos from this performance so she will try to get them uploaded on YT after tonight show or within the next day or so.
I'm wondering if the management of the bands can establish beforehand that videos are ok. It's a shame we don't have his banter from last night and David and Ryan singing together. It's such a win, win thing, I wonder what their problem is?
I too am really bummed at this point no video has surfaced. I checked Common Grounds in Lansing for Friday's show and they also have a "no video" policy. I, however, will still be trying (with the aide of my 12 year old son) to use "stealth" mode to bring one in. He has a pretty clever idea, and I think it just might work. Think I need to borrow my older son's slightly smaller video camera to do it, but it will be worth the effort!
I know can't beleive that not one video has surfaced yet. I was hoping for something. If someone has something please share it.
I can't believe there's no video.....Even Ryan is looking for video of him and David singing Breathe.
David spoke a little about our beloved LSU Tigers. A fan threw a LSU hat on stage. Joey wore it throughout the next song. David said something to the effect of “Geaux Tigers” and the crowd went nuts. Then he said, “You don’t know but I’m really talking about the Missouri Tigers.” The whole crowd Boo’ed him. He thought that was really funny. I don’t think he anticipated the intense reaction he would get.
LOL, you don't mess around when talking about our Tigers, especially in Baton Rouge. David said something along these lines last year at the Bossier City Idols show and got booed (in a joking way) then too.
On a side not, I've been through Turkey Creek many many times and it is indeed a "blink your eye and you've missed it" town.
Thanks again for the cellcast. I was unable to attend so it meant a lot to me personally to hear David performing in my home state and hear the crowd reaction. Louisiana did him proud.
I was ABSOLUTELY THRILLED this morning to be able to get up and listen to this concert. Real Life took the front seat yesterday. Not my decision, I might add. LOL!
I want to profusely thank our cellcaster (she did a great job), the backup cellcaster and Mandy for making it happen. And a special thanks for recording it, Mandy, for those of us who had holiday plans.
This particular cellcast was almost like being there. I particularly ENJOYED the enthusiasm of ANYONE within hearing range.
I have really enjoyed these cellcasts!
Thanks for the reviews . Sounds like Fun!! : ). If they said no video at a theme park. It might be the new thing now anywhere they perform.
Here’s my recap from last night. Good thing its typed, cuz I can’t talk this morning from all the screaming! It’s not in chronological order, my memory’s not that good.
A local band actually opened the show last night. The lead singer looked like DC without the beard. Before the show, I thought that guy might be David’s body double. ha! David and Dublin did watch most of this set from the side stage.
Ryan was fantastic of course. David came on stage in about the middle of “Breathe” and sang the chorus w/Ryan. Dave did sing a little bit by himself though. He and Ryan actually sounded pretty similar. Later on “Suicidal Psycho Girl”, David again sang a little and Neil played the guitar some.
Then the Main Act. David started the show with KOTN and they rocked the heck out of that song. That was the best I ever heard it. David was very chatty last night. I believe he spoke in between every song. It also was incredibly hot and he probably needed to cool down a bit. David said ‘they’ told him it was gonna be hot, “But really?, Really?”
David also told the story about the mall and that a girl said ‘he thinks he’s David Cook’. “Even I can’t pull off being David Cook. I guess I’m just a poser here trying to be David Cook. I needed to be brought down a notch.” All in joking fun of course, which we love so much.
A fan threw a hat on stage with a note attached. It was a Turkey Creek, LA *something* Club hat. (Turkey Creek is a little town of about 100, so the entire town must have been there. Ha) He did start to read the note, but said it was a G rated show and anything that starts out with “Hi Sweetie” probably doesn’t stay G rated.
David spoke a little about our beloved LSU Tigers. A fan threw a LSU hat on stage. Joey wore it throughout the next song. David said something to the effect of “Geaux Tigers” and the crowd went nuts. Then he said, “You don’t know but I’m really talking about the Missouri Tigers.” The whole crowd Boo’ed him. He thought that was really funny. I don’t think he anticipated the intense reaction he would get.
After one of the songs (I forget which), the crowd was really cheering and screaming. And David started doing his happy dance. (Jumping up and down in place.) He thanked everyone for coming out and letting him have the best job in the world. He was so cute, I just want to give him a big kiss on the cheek.
During “Bar-ba-sol,” Ryan and Artie came out on stage to shave. (see pics) After the song, David picked up the can, put some in his hand and smeared it over his beard. Then he looked around like “Now what?” He said he didn’t think that one all the way through. Stage hands threw him some towels, he got some of it off, but not all. He commented “I probably didn’t get it all, there’s a photo op for you all.” They played IJDIYA. Then the stage hand threw him another towel and Dave was like what’s this for. Dave said “I sang that whole song with stuff on my face!” I hope somebody got pics, it was pretty funny looking.
The venue did say no video, but I don’t think they enforced it. Hopefully, we’ll get some. My little camera sucks, so I didn’t get any. I got a few very grainy pics. I’ll see if anything is worth uploading.
I had a wonderful time at the concert. My 10 year old daughter’s take “It was good, but really, really hot.” Now I can’t wait for Tuesday, HOB in NO with the hubby. Good Times!
I hope we get a cellcaster tonight in Galveston, the concert is outside, so the sound quality should be good.
Thanks for cellcasting Carla. Everyone listening was getting a kick out of the enthusiastic I love You's throughout the night. Singing and screaming seems to be a spontaneous reaction to seeing David perform live. We just really appreciate that you volunteered to cellcast!
Saf - thanks for the recap. You caught an epic show last night. I bet all the mayhem on stage was hilarious to watch in person. That is a 4'th of July you won't soon forget!
We all scream for ice cream......And David Cook !!!!
thanks so much to Carla and Mandy, best cellcast ever!!!
Safroniamay I love your recap, thanks for sharing. It sounds like it was a hilarious show last night, what with the barbasol and the banter about himself going shopping. I hope we get some video of that. Glad to hear that he got to spend some time with his family over the weekend.
Thank you Mandy and Carla for an absolutely fabulous concert cell cast. It helped to make my 4th of July a great day. K
Kathy aka kcarlson61 aka klmcarl.
David got a hoot out of this - said he needed to be taken down a notch - and here he can't even do a good impersonation of himself.
*snort* Considering timing how long I laughed at that one.
I would like to thank FoolsApril64 for maintaining these tour threads show after show. I think it is great that you do all this work. Thank You much.
Thanks to Mandy and Carla for doing the great cellcast and to David and the band for the fantastic show.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Safroniamay! Thank you! I loved your recap. Sounds like it was an awesome time. Hope we get some pics and vids from others.
Just got back home. One of the banters was David saying he went to the mall - his Dad and relatives are in town and they went to buy some shorts and stuff. Were eating pizza at Mia's. David described in detail what he was wearing - hat, sunglasses, white t shirt, dorky shorts, nikes, bracelets, bad tan lines - and one 16-18 year old girl walked by and said, "He thinks he looks like David Cook!" David got a hoot out of this - said he needed to be taken down a notch - and here he can't even do a good impersonation of himself. He was funny.
Yea, David put Barbasol all over his face and then kinda only got some of it off - sung a whole song with a bunch of barbasol on his face. Afterwards, someone gave him a towel to get it all off with. Was funny.
Someone threw up an LSU hat with a note and he started to read it out loud - but when it started with "Dear Sweetie," he said he couldn't read the rest cuz there were children there. Which there was - many many kids 12 years old and under.
Someone yelled out they loved him - sounded like a guy to me - and he yelled back I love you too.
He was just happy. At the end he disappeared for a while and then appeared on stage right about 15 feet up on top of who knows what. Looked really cool and we did our final Whoas looking way up at David!
Ahhhhh. I got a really good Cookie fix tonight. Sweet Dreams.
