So who was it that you "threw aside" for David?

So who was it that you "threw aside" for David?

I was thinking about my own past favorites and began wondering what exactly happened that I don't like them so much anymore? There were quite a few, Linkin Park, Justin Timberlake, etc...I absolutely loved them all until I saw David Cook on American Idol....What about everyone else's?

Why would one have to throw someone aside?
Anyway, I added him, I threw no one aside. If I'm a fan it's for a reason deeper than time, so I can't discard the singers I love. I couldn't if I wanted to.

hes1sweetcookie, I was also a card carrying Claymate since 2003 to around 2006 or 2007. I was hardcore during my really nerdy teen years and I when I got a little older I didn't listen to his music as much and starting exploring other music. David's season of AI was the first season that I did not watch religiously from the beginning, and did not get fully involved until around the top 6 or so (the week he sang 'Music of the Night'). Now David is my ultimate Idol and while I still listen to Clay from time to time, I have grown from Crooners to Rockers in only a few years.

Reading everyone's answer to this is fun...I abandoned Clay Aiken as my fave ever Idol contestant when I "found" David Cook. It wasn't too hard either. Ever since Clay's coming out in 2008, his career has pretty much foundered. : ( I still like Clay and listen to his music on occasion, but David is the new object of my affection. LOL All 25 of my "Top 25 Played" songs in iTunes are David Cook songs. I liked him as soon as I saw his Idol audition, but really fell in love when he sang "Hello". That song is currently the ringtone on my phone, and has been for the past 2-3 years.

I would never throw any band or fandom aside for another. I like to split time between them and get healthy doses of each to avoid obsessions.

I didn't push anyone aside for David. He is the man!

I haven't dumped anyone hehe. I am a die hard fan of Diana DeGarmo, David Archuleta, Carrie Underwood. All from idol. I can't wait for the new Idol season. I write cards to all of them all the time. They probably either don't get them or if they do think I'm nuts haha. I usually am a fan for life when I'm a fan. L, Sue.

Well, David killed Neil Diamond for me lol, and before David, I was heavy into Vince Gill, still love him...But yeah, I threw aside Neil D

TeamDC1982: OH EM GEE! The Script is pretty cool too! Gosh...we should carpool xP haha
Anyway, I dumped Linkin Park for my man David. They got old after listening to Waiting For The End a bajillion times...but hey, they're stll a cool band.
On a different note, did anyone else hear about Amy Winehouse? My dad and I really liked her, and it was unfortunate to hear that she passed away. It was so sad..

SO glad I found this topic xP

I threw aside....Hanson. yes, I said it xD

&& OMG I saw someone say that The Script opened for David before!? I fricken love them! I had no idea they opened for him....i SOOO wish I coulda went to that show...my two fave guy artists/groups all at once!? I hate the universe at this moment hahaha

I'm happy i'm not the only boyband geek over here XD

Before David, I was a huge NSYNC fan. I still love the Backstreet Boys and this other Irish band called Westlife.

When i started watching Idol, i had a three month crush on constantine mouralis...I don't know why?? i didn't get his music. When season 7 came along and looked at David Cook the first time, i knew this guy had the 'it' factor...look at me now I'm CookNut =)

Bon Jovi! I have always been a huge Bon Jovi fan and now they are #2 and David is #1. I have to admit, for years I have thought Jon Bon Jovi was the sexiest man alive and he has now slipped to #2 in that category as well!

One of David's people

for me it was Backstreet Boys. LOL I used to tottally love them. As much as I love WWe superstar Randy Orton and I love the Daughtry guys, esspecially Chris, David is my number 1 celebrity hottie. but yeah i LOVE David, Chris and Randy but David is the best!

-from Jaime- David Cook and Daughtry fan and proud! Smiling

Neil Diamond....and really I have to say, every other artist....except Amy Grant this Christmas.

Straight Ahead

I am one of those that had pretty much given up on current radio until David came along so I can't say I pushed anyone aside for David. On the other hand I can say that because of David I have been introduced to a whole lot of bands/musicians that I never would have noticed if not for him tweeting about an act, or one of his fans talking about them.

David is Number 1 for me, but now I have other music I listen to as well. Just not as often.

When I first discovered David's and all the pre-idol music that was all I listened to..the only other artist I listen to as much is Bon Jovi..still love all kinds of music!

Nobody thrown aside. As was said earlier, what I listen to fits my mood. I would go nuts just listening to one artist.

"I will say that one that I have demoted is Rob Thomas. LOVED him with Matchbox Twenty and then his first couple of solo records. After David, I did kind of wonder what exactly I loved about Rob Thomas LOL. When Cradlesong came out I tried to love it, but was definitely over it and over him. Maybe that would have happened anyway without David."

ItsMyTime, I love Matchbox Twenty's first 2 CDs, especially Yourself or Someone Like You, but I've never been fond of Rob Thomas' solo music. I definitely think the older stuff was way better!!

"I’ll throw “Even Flow” in there by Pearl Jam, just to make sure she likes the same kind of music. If she’s like, ‘Oh I don’t like that song,’ then you don’t like me, and that’s a problem." - David

Well, I pretty much "threw aside" almost everybody in my music collection. Haha. Over my entire life, I would go through phases where I would like a band or a musician for a while then someone new would come along and they'd get pushed aside, especially when a new season of American Idol would start. After I saw David audition and watched what little I was able to of David, I knew he was different from all the other Idols and other musicians. It took me a little bit to warm up to him but the connection was almost immediate. Then, after he won, there goes my entire music collection! David is about the only musician that I am a devoted fan to. No one else has really caught my attention.

These arms hug people, sign autographs, play guitar, & write music-- these arms will never hurt anyone

Nothing to "threw aside" since David Cook is the only rock artists I came to know to care so deeply.

Hmmm, I too have mostly just added musicians to my life since David Cook, especially Ryan Star and The Script. But I think I would have found Ryan and The Script anyway if they hadn't been openers for David. Loved Linkin Park and Daughtry before David and still love LP and Daughtry although I guess I do have favorites because if I had a choice to see any of those bands, I'd still pick David first.

Nobody got kicked to the curb, or even demoted, because I never had a 'favorite'. I chose my music to fit the mood I was in. David has music that fits any mood, and what happened is music stopped being 'background' music beyond the first few spins. I have a preference for instrumentals, also jazz and hard rock music, even some classical - not much for pop. I still have it all, still play it all, even added new artists and tracks to the collection. But David's music always demands my full attention; voice, harmonies, melodies, themes, lyrics, music - riffs and beats of the interweaving instrumentation - there's always something to hear afresh - it's not just a soundtrack in my life.

"Expect the Unexpected." tm WTF!Cook

Well for awhile David took over all my musical interests getting to know Axium and AH but I have since picked up a few more folks I really love. David is # 1 but Keith Urban and Ray Lamontagne have recently stolen my heart. : ) My old favorites are Tom Petty, Bruce, Pearl Jam, The Dixie Chicks, Melissa Etheridge, Bonnie Raitt and I know I will be beat up for this but Nickelback. There are a bunch more to numerous to name. LOL

I love tom Petty! He's definitely up there in my top favorites.

While Springsteen will always be #1, poor Tom Petty got pushed down to #3 on my list. And now I like mwk so much that Tom might be #4.

Thanks to our IT guys at work (long story) I had to reload a whole ton of music back onto my computer a few months ago. I was surprised at how many songs I had forgotten about. The performer might not have necessarily been one of my favorites, but that "one" particular song was really good. And I realized that since 2008 I had hardly listened to that song at all. So I spent a couple of days listening to all those forgotten songs.

Then the "Sanctuary Live Sessions" came out, and so much for that.

Maybe I shoud designate a day of the week to be devoted to "other artists."

Well, David definitely dethroned Elliot Yamin as my all-time favorite artist from Idol.

No one... I still like all my old faves. I've also picked up on a few artists because of David. Some of his recommendations I like and others I'll check out and not really like. Someone did a great job picking openers for his last tour cuz I loved them all. I love music!

all that I am is in the palm of your hand

Well, I didn't throw anything aside so much as I cut down on my reading -- which I did a tremendous lot of -- and made room for music again. It's just making me a more culturally and socially well-rounded, aware person. So, it's all good!

Nobody. I actually find that concept baffling and I can't relate to it at all. I still love lots of artists and music besides David. I really like David's music, but he's not my absolute favorite. That will always be Pearl Jam.
