Today is the first time I've ever read the "official" words, believe it or not. Every single time, of the thousands of times I've listened to this song, I thought he said, "Who never let the WORDS get the best of him." Today I see that the official lyric is WORST. Reading along and listening at the same time, I do hear that he does seem to be saying "worst." I never even had a question in my mind that he wasn't saying "words", but I do have to admit that it seems to be "worst." -

That was beautiful and true. Out of David's pain came all this beauty. And the lesson for us all is that all of our heartaches and pains, if we respond appropriately, can be used in the lives of others for building them up. Thanks for writing that and sharing it. I'm going to have to go think about that for a while.
