I have been a casual American Idol viewer in the past, watching for the entertainment value and as a theater major enjoyed hearing the singers that were actually good. When David sang "Hello" I definitely took notice this past season. I was happy to see a great rock singer on the show who had a versatile vocals. I thought Chris Daughtry was talented, but all of his songs on the show ended up sounding the same. David was a breath of fresh air on idol, as he was a great vocalist, performer and a GUY who was masculine and a rocker. Us ladies not in the 15 year old age range were definitely happy for David, and Michael Johns, this past season.

After Idol, I finally heard Analog Heart and knew that I would be a David fan for a long time. The album reminded me of just how much I loved rock music with great vocals. Lately rock has been inundated with faux-punk crap that has little to do with the kind of rock I fell in love with in the late 90s. Plus, as a person who works with many musicians, it was nice to see someone like David hit it big, as he had been toiling in local band obscurity for too long. I am glad that David took the chance with Idol, so the rest of us have the opportunity to get to know his music. He is primed to be a big deal in the music industry, I can tell already.
