Average: 5 (13 votes)

David Cook - Charity Single available- May 20th
"David Cook will be on the American Idol finale show this Wednesday, May 20th performing the song "Permanent" which he co-wrote with Raine.
The song will be available as a download on Itunes that night and all proceeds will go to David Cook's charity for brain tumour research that he recently set up for his brother Adam, whom he lost a couple of weeks ago to cancer."

His performance should actually be a cause for celebration...for the good it will do...and not for sorrow. David's talent and heart will shine through on Wednesday. Sure, we all will probably shed some tears...but these tears will be those of love, hope, and admiration!

Best of luck to DC! I know he will give a performance of a lifetime!

Though I own the album like all of you, I will definitely be buying multiple copies of Permanent Wednesday night.

Also, since DC doesn't twitter, feel free to twitter the news to your friends and colleagues. Many are affected by cancer and would happily buy the song/video.

20-May PRESS RELEASE: David Cook to Perform 'Permanent' on the American Idol Season Finale Tonight

--------------QUOTE--------------------------------------
David Cook to Perform 'Permanent' on the American Idol Season Finale Tonight

LIVE RECORDING OF DAVID COOK'S 'IDOL' PERFORMANCE WILL BE SOLD ON iTUNES TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CHARITY

All Proceeds From Sale of Live Version of 'Permanent' Will Be Donated To D.C.-Based Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure

LOS ANGELES, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Exactly one year after winning the seventh season of "American Idol," David Cook returns to the most popular television series in America on Wednesday night to perform "Permanent," -- a song he wrote with Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida. The studio version of "Permanent" appears on his platinum-selling debut album for 19 Recordings/RCA Records, "David Cook." The live recording will be available for purchase on iTunes immediately after the live broadcast. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2), a Washington, D.C.-based organization dedicated to finding a cure for brain cancer.

Earlier this month, Cook raised money and awareness for ABC2 by running in the organization's 5K "Race for Hope" in the District of Columbia. Now, the live recording of "Permanent" will be available as a charity single on iTunes for one month, raising more money to benefit ABC2. The organization uses an entrepreneurial venture philanthropy approach to bring more treatments to patients sooner by stimulating new research and accelerating the development of new therapies for brain cancer. ABC2 looks forward to the day when all patients who are diagnosed with brain cancer can be told they have a manageable disease.

ABC2 provides researchers with the pivotal support they need to make critical breakthroughs. The organization funds novel translational research aimed at finding the fastest possible route to a cure. ABC2's partners range from medical research centers to early-stage biotechnology companies to large multi-national pharmaceutical companies. Since brain cancer affects a relatively small portion of the population, ABC2 recognizes the importance of investing in the early stages of the most novel sectors of the discovery and development pipeline, in order to "buy down the risk" for its partners and speed progress of innovative new treatments to the clinic.

More information about the annual 5K Race for Hope is available on the websites of Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (www.abc2.org) and the National Brain Tumor Society (www.tbts.org).

why oh why isnt it up yet

David is getting a serious bump on itunes this morning. I wonder if profits from the sale of the DCTR version of Permanent will also go to charity?

My hope is that once people download it and fall in love with it, they will go back and purchase the "show version" too . Smiling Smiling

aughhhhhhhhh....

i am just DANCING in frustration here, peeps.....

i have overseas recipients lined up... i have a gift list lined up.... i am sitting here at my keyboard with my heart and wallet wide open and DAMN if it is approaching noon EST and the stuff is not there YET.

aughhhhhhhhhhh......

so wrong. D just ... pours himself out and then to have people's impulses frustrated this way, and his trust frustrated this way, that's an epic fail, folks.

If there is justice in the world? whoever is responsible among TPTB, should either be making sure the proceeds from every sale of the DCTR 'permanent' since 9 p.m. PST, last night, should go to ABC2. Or, if this is not contractually possible, (because probably it isn't)? Then an amount matching those sales ought to be donated to ABC2, by TPTB.

Because you know and I know that lots of folks are buying it thinking they are contributing, and they are not.

aughhhhhh!!!!!!

I cannot believe this is not up on itunes. Serious mistake.

Wow, the performance was absolutely beautiful. David's voice was so touching, and the guys also did an outstanding job.

David's performance tonight was so beautiful and he showed how vulnerable and sensitive he
is as an artist and I have to say he was the best on that stage tonight!

I still cannot find the official link for itunes and Permanent. I did buy permanent on itunes but I don't know if that is the right link. there is nothing about proceeds going to charity.??

I'm teary-eyed and full with pride, admiration, inspiration and deepest respect for David. His performance was brilliant. As many have said, He is our true American Idol in every sense of the word.
I will be listening to him for the rest of my days.

Still waiting for the song to become available on itunes.
It was a beautiful, haunting, heart-felt performance... and how wonderful it is to know that the proceeds go to cancer research!

Okay, 1103 Central time. Still waiting, Itunes. I am in Itunes, but it does not seem available yet.
Sleepy, tired. But waiting. Spending the time watching the performance that I taped multiple times.
Beautiful.

Permanent was beautiful - I knew it would be! David is a true star in every sense of the word.

The depth of David's charity matches the depth of his passion for this cause. There are no words to express how much I admire him. It's difficult, in today's world, to find someone who follows through on what they say they will do, someone who holds true to who they are, and genuinely upholds his morals and values in spite of all of how his world has changed. He knows the meaning of hard work, moving forward no matter what, loyalty to friends and family and his fans. He is truly an amazing human being. God has gifted him with talents that DC chooses to use for the greater good. He has my utmost respect and admiration.

I wonder if the link will go up after the west coast showing of the finale is over?

Whenever it goes up, I will be buying multiple copies! Amazing. There are no words.

His album moved from 52 to 23
and he is #3 on pop
Cool.
But I need to go to sleep.
Where is Permanent?!?!
Can I buy it tomorrow too?

I can't find the performance one either. Heck, at the moment, I can't even get ONTO the AI Itunes page. Wonder why? I hope it's because, like, a gazillion people are trying to buy it.

where is the Permanent performance?
I cant find it on itunes?

We all love and support David. He's such a great artist. He will always be an "idol".

This is a MUST Read! David Cook is ABC2's Idol

WOW! A reason to actually watch this "alleged" finale show. AWESOME!

David did amazing on Ellen. Tonight, he is sure to show the boys what killer talent looks like on stage. I cannot wait!

There will never be another David. He is more than a pretty face with talent. He is a giant of a man. He cares in ways that others cannot even phantom. He dares to challenge others to love, and put their love to action to benefit others.

God bless David and his family.

I'm so happy for the good this song will do -- so many people will hear it and be inspired or comforted who never would have heard it otherwise. But, like several of you, I don't expect a SAD occasion -- I expect a triumphant moment -- TWIK squared -- exactly.

Last November, a discussion strand dedicated to Permanent was started on david-cook. org. Again, I'd like to invite anyone with special feelings for this song to lurk and/or join the discussion there too, if they would like: http://www.david-cook.org/index.php?showtopic=16069. This strand includes various interpretations and reactions to the song, its power, and links to key relevant interviews and performances over time.

The news is now on the homepage of DCO as well. http://www.davidcookofficial.com/news/david-cook-perform-permanent-ameri...

If you guys go to the link that FoolsApril just pinned to the top it says that Permanent will be available on iTunes for 1 month! Awesome for Dave and awesome for all the money he will raise for cancer research!

I just sent my local radio station the link and asked the DJ if he could please mention it...and he did! Hey, AI is being talked about a ton today, this slides into the conversation effortlessly. Can you imagine how much money will be raised tonight?!?

David Cook is AWESOME! I really admire this guy.

You're welcome, Blue.

Yep...I too think he will nail it. His love for his brother...his deciation to finding a cure...will give him the strength to give the best performance he possibly can. I can't wait. It should be a moment of awe and inspiration for everyone.

Wow. Thanks for the news Xavier. I've been away awhile. This is epic and ever so appropriate and brave and.... and on and on. Minstrel... your words.. "crack open people's hearts" and "TWIK squared" .... well said. It will be exciting to see how much money this raises.

Minstrel said it perfectly:

"he won't just get through it, he will nail it... just like he did not just get through the race, did not puke... he flew.

same same. he has learned it is possible to do things beyond your abilities, when you are not alone.

and you know.... that is not just a sad song. Like ADAM, that is a song that affirms that there is something stronger than death. Love is stronger. There is something permanent that death cannot kill. Whether this is the love between two people, the love of a Higher Power, some combination thereof.

It is an amazing, life-affirming piece of music and it's going to ... blow people's minds, and crack open their hearts. I can't wait to experience the experience. TWIK, squared."

---The man continues to amaze me with his strength and character. This just outdoes everything I already loved about him. My Hero!!

I agree, jayelgee. Tell everyone to tweet away...the more people who know about this, the more money that can potentially be raised for cancer research! It's very important!

I can't believe he is performing this so soon after his loss, but he never fails to suprise us with his great strength. Emotions will be running high, and I doubt I will make it through the performance without crying. I am so proud of David for being so strong, and it will be the performance of his life. I can't wait!!

Deana - I borrowed your tweet to post from my twitter account - thanks! We're trying to get David to trend tonight. Keep tweeting!

This needs a little nudge back to the top of the page....

I personally think that the performance will be available on itunes for more than just Wednesday night. This is not a contest or for voting...these sales are for charity.!! Why would they offer it for just one
night??

As I recall last year, the performances/songs were available for a few days after finale and then they were gone. I think the post on Our Lady Peace website probably meant it would be available starting on Wednesday night. I guess we will have to wait and see on this one.

If everyone who watches the AI finale purchases just one copy of this performance on itunes, it could go platinum overnight. Would that be some kind of record??? Think about it.

Vivi..I'm not sure. It very well may only be available for sale on Wednesday night.

You're welcome, Frannie.

Also, for those of you who do twitter, feel free to twitter the news to friends and colleagues as Deana has suggested. Cancer affects countless souls and I'm sure they would consider buying the video/song...especially if they watch how amazing it is live.

(A bulletin from Our Lady Peace in Myspace and Facebook, as we know already:

"David Cook will be on the American Idol finale show this Wednesday, May 20th performing the song "Permanent" which he co-wrote with Raine. The song will be available as a download on Itunes that night and all proceeds will go to David Cook's charity for brain tumour research that he recently set up for his brother Adam, whom he lost a couple of weeks ago to cancer. We'll have a direct link to the Itunes single on Wednesday night, so be sure to check back here.")

I wonder if this means it's available only on Wednesday night. Does anyone know? Sorry if this question is answered here somewhere already - couldn't find an answer.

Performing Permanent on Idol is going to be so hard for him. I have utmost respect and admiration for this man who dares to bare his soul and shows so much courage--so soon after his brother's passing. I hope he can hold it together.

This performance is going to be amazing. In my heart I know that the spirit of Adam will be there watching as David performs this...perhaps even holding him up and giving him strength and courage. I have my box of tissues ready.

BTW, does anyone know how long the audio and video downloads of Permanent will be available on itunes? I am kind of hoping it will not just be in the AI section --since last year those downloads were only available for a limited time after the finale.

And, yes, I will be purchasing multiple copies of each.

This is something we can expect only David to do! Once again he prooves how unselfish and bighearted person he is! To perform Permanent, the most meaningful and sensitive song, is so courageous thing to do and to turn this to charitable work! I`m speechless! It must be so heavy for him. I hope he can manage till the end of the song. If I were in his shoes, I couldn`t do it without crying, I cannot even listen to the song without sheading tears. .... But nevertheless it will be EPIC! I hope the audience really gets how big this is and gives him standing O!

Thanks, Deana, for the twitter charity tuesday info. I just posted it.

We've been speculating on what song David would perform on the Finale show and now that we know, it makes perfect sense, doesn't it? Of course he's going to pay tribute to his beloved brother. Of course he'll turn it into an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for brain cancer research. Bravo David, for making perfect choices and for finding a purpose greater than yourself.
