The album discussion topic!
I know that this is a little early, but that never hurts right?
Let's discuss David's debut album right here!
Let's get prepared for it!

What song are you most excited to hear on the new album?
Comments for this Forum Topic
I made an mp3 out of the compilation of the preview snippets. I have been playing it constantly. I am so pumped and ready for the entire RECORD. (LOL. They should have named it "The Record".) It is going to be very "IMPORTANT".
Each time I listen to it, I have a different favorite. Meaning that actually, I love them all. I am so torn about whether or not to listen to the streamed version. On one hand I am so anxious to hear each song in it's entirety. On the other hand, I want to hear them in the best quality and in the best environment possible so that I can concentrate on the vocals as well as every word and musical note. I do not know if I have the will power to hold out!
I love everything David has ever sang. Every Axium song, every AH song, MWK with his vocals, AI performance, AI tour performance, publicity appearance performance, everything. His voice is one of a kind.

I am so excited for the 13th when we get t stream the album! I was thinking about waiting until the 18th like kaydeecee, so I can hold it in my hands, but I got to thinking. Today I leave for my freshmen class trip with my high school, and when we get there they take away ALL electronics, so that means no DCO, no DC music, no updates, nothing, until thursday the 13th! I thought I was gonna die, and was planning to figure out a way to hide my ipod so I can at least listen to him, but now I don't think I'm going to, I'm gonna do what they said (no matter how painful!) so that when I get home I can be rewarded with the album streaming!!! At least that gives me something to look forward to this week...I'm bursting out of my chair to hear the whole album, but especially "Permanent", "Avalanche", and "ADAM", those three just really stuck a chord with me. I'll miss you guys, try not to get into too much trouble while I'm gone!!! *yeah right* lol
Wow KDC, that's a tough one.
All I can say is that if you're going to wait until the 18th, don't come here after the 13th. We all know by now that the reviews and dissection of this album and the songs will be numerous and wide ranging. Personally I want to hear it before I read about the impressions of others.
Whenever it happens, I plan on setting aside about 45 minutes when I can be alone, reclined with my eyes closed and headphones on, so I can fully experience my first time through. I expect it's going to be a very emotional experience......maybe I should have a defibrillator handy.

Your interesting discussion of the ablum's themes has me more torn then ever about a first listen.
I want to hear the whole thing in the best possible first run through. Should I wait till the 18th when I have the actual album in my possession and resist listening to the streaming version next week?

I agree with Kyrie. I think David has progressed and his tastes have changed as he got older. None of the bands he names as favorites or influences are very hard musically. I think David prefers the middle ground, and has even developed a taste for soft rock/pop rock, and that's okay with me! It allows him to show his sensitive side--and he has a very big sensitive side.

the snippet of "A Daily AnteM" kinda reminds me of AH's "makeover".
the verse has the same vibe and i really like it!
all the snippets are so great, so dave!

Axium "Matter Of Time", My Ultimate Drug For Winter!
Our Dear One has said he wants this cd to have appeal for EVERYONE.
He's got something to make the hard rockers happy, and the AI set who knows him mostly for sexy ballads. Might even be a song for the teen set, I couldn't tell from the 30 second bites of the cooky. I do have faith in him. He didn't stumble on AI and I know he won't stumble now.
He's a believer in progression, and I Iike that.
I just figured out yesterday that "Analog Heart" tells the story of a failing relationship, from "Straight Ahead" to the ending at "Silver", one song at a time. Amazing!
I wonder if this cd will be the same?
Right off the bat, "Declaration" and "Come Back to me" caught my attention. Luscious, full throated songs sung deliciously by The Voice!
[Oh yeah, and the lead guitar kicks MAJOR arse! Dude! He's BLAZING!]

i just miss that one song that kyle can go completely suicidal on those drums, you know what i mean?
these are the songs that make the LIVE shows.
i wish we had one of those on this record.
"Just listen to us....we haven't even gotten the first album, and we're already anticipating the next one, lol"
i know LOL but with david it's different than other artists. he's like a fountain of brilliant music i just need more and more and more. we know he has more material that didn't make the cut and his unreleased record.
i hope he releases another record before 2009 ends (of course it's wishful thinking. i just know that RCA will release david cook deluxe edition and drag this even more).

Axium "Matter Of Time", My Ultimate Drug For Winter!
Antul....I agree. And I think we will see more on the next album.
If David gets what he has said he wants, and that is to be a band, as opposed to a single artist with backup musicians, I think the next record will be influenced by the other band members, (like Neal), and other outside source (like with Bar-ba-sol).
Just listen to us....we haven't even gotten the first album, and we're already anticipating the next one, lol.
Poor David, so much pressure...ha ha....lucky us.

After hearing the snippets I think the song I most long to hear is "Permanent". Like Heliotrope, I like that sort of thing. And when I heard it, the same thing happened to me that happened when I heard his studio version of "Music of the Night". .. started to cry..
I do think I'm going to love all the songs, and while there may be a harder rock side to David than what is on this album, it sounds to me like this album does showcase many sides of him and that's one of the things he is going for.
I don't know about you all, but when I saw the album countdown in the single digits today, I jumped in my chair a little! lol

"WHAT?!?!? What are you guys doing here.."

"but I really don't see David doing an all hard rock album".
ok maybee not a whole album full of it but i wish we had 1 song a la truth is a gun/ callout/ dear heaven in the record.
david absolutly brilliant doing these songs.
i hope we'll get them on the next record when he differentiates himself from the idol brand.

I could be wrong, but I really don't see David doing an all hard rock album. He just isn't the 18 year old high school rocker of his Axium days anymore. He has grown up and his music has matured with him. This album is just what I expected, a progression beyond Analog Heart. I think he's always going to stick with the broad range of rock genres ranging from softer songs like Permanant to rocking tunes like Bar-ba-sol. He likes the variety, but seems most comfortable in the middle. Just look at the bands he says he likes and the people he worked with on this album, bands in that middle range like Collective Soul and Goo Goo Dolls. If he was going to go the harder rock route, I would expect him to be raving about bands like Metallica, G & R and Seether. (Personally I'd love to here him do Fake It.) Maybe he will down the road, (if Neal has anything to say about it). For right now, I think he's right where he wants to be, doing what he wants to do. When David Cook & Company becomes a household word, the sky will be the limit, but right now he has to play to the biggest audience. We may be his biggest fans, but there aren't enough of us here right now to support a lifelong career. This album is the first step in reaching the masses, and I think it's perfect.

album sounds Fantastic! permanent and lie sound superb! i'm looking forward to listen to them the most.
bar-ba-sol sounds amazing on the injected version. now add dave twist on it and you have a stellar.
what i'm really missing though is a hard rock a la Axium/ dear heaven/ let go kind of songs.
because lets face it, those songs are the most fun on live shows.
barbasol is not hard rock enogh. maybee the bonus song a la foo fighters will compensate for it. anyway i'm sure we'll get more of this stuff on the next album.
album gonna be a HUGE HIT . good job dave!

Axium "Matter Of Time", My Ultimate Drug For Winter!
I love the songs where David just melts us into a puddle. Come Back to Me feels as hot as ABMB or All I Really Need is You, which was the kind of song I was afraid might end up on the cutting room floor. I'm glad David wanted to mix it up. Every single song on the album is awesome.

Commenting on what Nono said...
The album seems an apt mix of mellow, medium, and uptempo songs. Barbasol definitely stands out as the lone hard rock track...though a full listen to each song may reveal some others too. However, to be honest, I don't think Analog Heart is a hard rocking record either...except for "Let Go". If anything, this album is a bit more refined...which is expected from a big time producer and a state of the art studio at his disposal....while AH is more raw. Both styles come with advantages and drawbacks. One may find more of a following, the other may be a bit too obscure for radio. Either way, I can tell this album is unmistakenly DC...from the lyrics, to the passion, to his voice. My advice for those wanting something a little harder would be to purchase the Walmart record. According to Rolling Stone, the bonus track "Breathe Right (Tonight)" is industrial/aggro rock and may be a great compliment to Barbasol.
I was not saying he's not proud or that he didn't make the album he wants. What I think is that it couldn't be as hard as he'd probably go if possible, those songs are him but it could have more uptempo/hard stuff. I mean, more songs like Bar-ba-sol. It's pretty obvious that David loves Bar-Ba-Sol and he's super proud of it, but then it seems to be the most rocked out one, and only really rocked out one.
It's the first album, and he has time to try different things the next time, but I'm pretty sure this time they wanted it a bit more "soft".
It's like Cavallo said, they needed to have something for the AI fanbase.
But yeah, it's commercial and it's supposed to be. And that is not a bad thing, commercial stuff can still be good, but I still hope to get something harder next time.
I think it's awesome that he can have 2/3 songs that stand out... and it seems that's going to happen. Considering everything, that makes the album a winner.
If David wasn't proud of this album, he wouldn't be saying that the album is him, and he's happy with it.
I don't think it's all commercialize and everything.
Anyways. The songs I want to hear are I Did It For You

Permanant, Bar Ba Sol, Life On The Moon, or well every single one of the songs.

I love each and every song I have heard...even though I only have herd 30 seconds of it!....I had my headphones on and I was reading the lyrics....I started to cry........and well, I am not a cryer...my face was wet with tears as I could feel sooo much emotion filling my soul. I dont know how he can do that in 30 seconds but he can. I am so excited about this album I am ready to burst!I have preordered on Wallmart (to get the bonus track) and on Itunes...and will probably get more copies...I have been waiting for his music like my entire life.......

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
I have to say I disagree with the poster below who said this album is too commercial and that David's album isn't really all him. Commercial it may be, but come on, that doesn't mean it's bad or that David isn't making the music he wants to make. He chose to compete on Idol, he knew what was expected. He was fully willing. Besides, I think more than any other idol, winning or not, David is being given as much--or almost as much--creative freedom as he wants. Just because he wants to make good music doesn't mean he wants to make music that won't play well on commercial radio. Good music and commercial music are not mutually exclusive. In fact, isn't some non-commercial music just that because it actually sucks and no one wants to buy it? That's not to say there isn't a lot of crap being played on the airwaves all the time too. I absolutely HATE "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis and every time I put the radio on it seems they're playing that %$&^ song.

The first time I listened to the samples, Heroes grabbed me right away. After listening multiple times, it still has me tight in it's grasp.
I also like Bar-ba-sol and Come Back to Me. I still enjoy Light On.
I'm looking forward to hearing all of A Daily AntheM. It intrigues me.

Some ranting about the album...
I am super excited to have the album in my hands. After listening to the preview I know there are some songs there that I'm gonna love. It seems to be a solid work. And if we take into account that David did everything in 5 months, with a tour in the middle, and everything he had to be and everwhere he had to be for beeing the winner it's just amazing he is able to put out something like that and be so involved.
Having said all this, I think the fact that he's the AI and he's with a label that wants to sell and sell, made him put an album that will be more commercial and more average than it would be if there was not this pressure of selling a lot and making music for the general audience.
I think if it was up to him there would be more Bar-ba-Sols in the album, but they probably had to go with not so rocking music and more radio friendly stuff.
I'm glad they let him have Bar-ba-sol there and I'm hoping the bonus songs are more rockish or slow (kind alike Just in Case). But he could do more and be more than ordinary, if the conditions were different.
Heroes, Bar-ba-Sol and Permanent seem to be the more "art" for me. But besides those I'm really curious to listen to Come Back To Me, Lie and A Daily Anthem.
Plus, i already love Declaration.
The only track I'm more meh about is I Did It For You. And that actually makes me really curious to hear the whole thing. To know if I'll change my opinion.
I've already heard a preview of all of the songs and I have to say the album has exceeded my expectations! Although I like ALL of the songs, my instant favorites are "Come Back To Me," "Life On The Moon," and "Heroes." But now I'm REALLY anticipating the iTunes and WalMart bonus tracks. November 18 can't get here soon enough. I'll be wearing out my Axium and "Analog Heart" CDs until then. Meanwhile I'm posting DC album banners all over the Internet!
DC ROCKS!
I can't wait to hear the whole thing, everything sounds great, but the songs that stand out the most to me are...
Heroes
Come Back To Me
Barbasol
Lie
Permanent
I can't wait to hear the whole album, but I'm really psyched to listen to all of Permanent and A Daily AntheM.

I am excited to hear the whole album. I truly believe I will love at least 9 of the songs and that is rare for me to like that many on one CD. With Lie, Heroes, Life on the Moon, Permanent, Avalance, and Barbasol, the tune sticks in my head and I find myself singing them when the music isnt playing, when that happens I know it is a good sign. That didnt happen with Light On. And if that happens with just 30 sec of the song, I cant imagine what the whole song will do. I think the CD is going to be a huge hit.

~ Try to leave a light on when I'm gone, something I rely on to get home ~
Normally, even under the best of circumstances, I only really love 5 or 6 songs from a given album, usually more like 3-5. But from listening to the sound clips of this, I know I'm going to love the entire album. People have compared Cook with Daughtry, but there's really no comparison. Each one of Cook's songs is unique, and creates a different mood. There's anger here, despair, tenderness, hurt, joy, insecurity, wonder, and love. And his voice, much like his expressive face, reflects whatever feeling the song is trying to convey. He can growl and howl with the likes of the baddest bad boy rockers, or turn tender and soulful and even tearful the next moment. And the lyrics are nothing short of genius. The man is a creative genius, that's all there is to it, and he is going to prove once and for all that he's far more than just the winner of American Idol, and that his music is important and has true staying power. A lot of people who aren't hardcore fans like us are basing their opinion of David on one song--TOML--and that's not fair, because he's capable of so much more. Not that I don't love TOML--I do, especially because it brings back memories of that magical night in May--but it's just not really David.
The song I'm really itching to hear is Permanent. It's going to be cathartic for me, and in a perverse sort of way, I enjoy that sort of thing.

all of them! What ones do I think are gonna get me bawling..Lie and Permanent!
