David & the Band on Jimmy Kimmel 1/13/09
Where do I begin to describe the greatness that is David Cook?
He played KOTN. And I have to say wow. F*cking wow. The other treat was their reprise of "Little Lies," which I was so jealous that I didn't get to hear live at the HRC. It was beyond fantastic. And you haven't lived until you've heard Bar-Ba-Sol live.
Ok let's just start by saying the man was on his game tonight, more than ever. Playful, funny, confident, like he's ruled the stage, and television, for years and years. A total pro. I can't imagine any other AI contestant doing this. I don't even think of AI when I think of David anymore. It was really fun to watch him work the camera when the boom camera swung by close while he was in the middle of a song. Effortless. Really, at this point, it seems instinctive with him.
They taped the whole concert, and I'm told the entire thing will be posted on Kimmel's website. I hope I heard that correctly!
I finally got to meet the man, and in a rather great but slightly unnerving way. We talked, he signed my CD, blah blah... and just a few minutes later when I wanted him to get in a picture with me, he came back over and asked if I'm Scott. My jaw dropped. I said yes. We can all try to figure that one out, but I'm assuming he recognized my facebook picture and has read a post or 12 here. Who knows, I was dumbfounded. Moving on....
The man is off the charts genuine and engaging with his fans. He stayed for a meet and greet at the gates surrounding the concert area. He stayed long, he was relaxed, and was in no rush to leave. He was having lots of fun.
The band members are cut from the same cloth. They came out and worked the crowd, which in turn showed each and every one of them lots of love. It's apparently just as important to all of them, as it is to David, to meet the fans, take pictures, and sign autographs.
Here's the part I didn't mention earlier. "Milligold" from "the dash," with whom I've attended several THH performances, was invited to the green room by a friend of hers who's a cameraman on Kimmel. She got to invite 3 friends: arwen, Woody Jo (who's posted all those great THH videos), and me. That was amazing. We missed the soundcheck where David did a full performance of "Avalanche" (I would have loved to have seen/heard that)... but instead were treated to food and an open bar, and great conversations with Andy, Neal and Joey. David and Kyle stayed in the dressing rooms, but they really worked the crowd outside after the concert.
First time meeting Joey. My new mission: to promote this amazing bass player and show him as much love as possible in this site. Here's a gorgeous, smart, extremely sweet guy who is so, so happy to be with David and the band. He's loving it, and loving the fans. I really heard his bass during Declaration and it really made the song rock. Neal was as great as ever, and of course I've gone on for pages about Andy and it's always great to see him and talk a little.
Funny thing. In the green room before the show, I said to Neal, "now you know I'm on the boards, and I can safely tell you that one of the most popular songs on the album, if not THE most popular among the fans, is KOTN." He replied, with an eyebrow raised, "really?" He must have been laughing inside, because little did I know that it was on their set list for the night!!
Finally, I asked David if the college tour will be open to the general public. He gave an emphatic YES! He wants us to contact our favorite local college(s) with good venues and request a show. Just like you would request LO from a radio station. I urge you all to make your requests.
Tour kicks off February 13th, and will start in Florida. Other details TBA.
Here's what they performed tonight:
1) LO
2) Declaration
3) Little Lies
4) KOTN
5) Bar-Ba-Sol

Where can I find the list of songs performed on tour and the number of times each has been sung. I saw the list early on in the tour, but now can't find it. Thanks
CONGRATS AGAIN ON GETTING TO MEET THE BAND SCOTT!!...
But, as I told you before you went in -- I'm so freakin' jealous!! LOL --- Seriously, tho, Scott, I'm glad you got to do that. You certainly deserved that opportunity! You are so right about him (and the guys) being so awesome last nite! That was so much better than the AMA's and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven back then! Now I KNOW I have!! Kotn AND Barbasol all in one nite --- I still haven't come down & don't want to! One small disappointment: once again I failed to get close enough to get an autograph or just a word with him after the show. Don't know if I'll ever get another opportunity... But fortunately, we did get a good spot right in front of DC center stage 2nd row for the concert! I was right next to John and got a chance to talk with him again. Also met some really nice fans in line. We really need to think of a way to identify ourselves as DCO (or Dash) at concerts, tho.
One more thing: I've got an appointment to speak with the Events Coordinator at Cal State San Bernardino (where I'm a staff member) tomorrow about David's tour. Will let you know what I find out!

Oh What A Night
Scott,
So glad you finally got to meet David. I'm kicking myself for not having tried to get closer when he came out after the show. But if anyone got to meet him and got to be recognized by him it should have been you.
I'm glad that the Avalanche sound check was captured so you could hear it.
Can you believe that it just whet my appetite for more David. Sure you can!
It sure was fun
So glad you got to meet him (*outside of the green room...heh)........but we had a fantastic time. Too tired to write much more but it's all been said. He was the most "on" last night I've ever seen him. He is not to be missed in concert!

what a night!
Hey, Scott! It was great meeting you last night. It was simply an amazing night. They were so "in the zone". And you're totally right about the guys in the band. This was my first time meeting any of them (even though I had met DC half a dozen times before). They are all such nice, sweet guys. Because I had been so close to the stage during the performance, I ended up very far when DC first came out for autographs (first in, last out), so I ended up asking Joey to hand David the puppy treats I brought. I was very apologetic about it -- not wanting to make him feel like a messenger-boy, but he seemed genuinely puzzled why I would think he would mind. It never even occurred to him to be anything other than sweet and gracious about it. The fact that he's very talented and handsome I already knew. Finding out what a sweetheart he is was a very nice bonus.

I'm so happy for you
Scott, I'm so happy for you that you finally got to meet the man himself, and that he knew you!!! well how cool is that!!!! You go my fellow (transplanted) New Jerseyian!!!
I spent quite a bit of time talking to Joey at HRC the night of the DWF gala, and I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion of him, what a nice, nice guy, and he was so excited to be playing with David, but confident too, he said he knew he was going to be in David's band six months earlier! And funny, too, mugging for the camera for us at the Regis filming the following week.
Here's hoping that we all get lots and lots of chances for these amazing encounters with all the guys during this tour!!!

I have a picture in my head
After rewatching the finale last night, I have a renewed image of DC getting his new car keys.
...
Ryan: "Would you like to drive one?"
DC: "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhyyyyyyeeeeeeeessss????"
...
Scott, I can picture you saying the exact same thing when DC asked you if you were Scott
Thanks for your awesome posts, keep 'em coming.
Jealous does not begin to describe...
my feelings.
You rock. They rock. We all rock.
Now...give me tewer dates!
Congrats Scott!
Scott, I thought of you and several other fans while watching Kimmel today (I DVR'd it). You have been such an eloquent and loyal supporter of David on the boards and now you got to meet the man himself! Congrats! And congratulations on him recognizing your name. That is wonderful and shows that your loyalty does not go unnoticed!!!! Thanks for the fantastic recap. Glad you got to hang out with some of the band.

No Words
Scott,
Thank your for sharing the story of your fantastic night with us. You are such an avid and articulate supporter of David--it's no surprise to me that he knew who you are! I must confess to getting a little choked up reading about your time at the concert and with the band. I can't imagine how you must have felt. Just, wow.
Thanks for the recap!
Thanks Scott for that amazing recap! Sounds like you had a really good time

Thanks Scott!
You are awesome. Of course he knew you
Can't believe he's starting in Florida! I'm so stoked!

Great Recap
What an amazing recap and got to the green room and you even spoke with David. Just utterly WOW. Yeah, he works really, really well. He seemed right on the money through the videos and TV. I think his strength is his comedic timing with the tweens video. Plus, he know your name! How awesome is that- it could it be through the connection with Andy? Anyhow, thanks so much for this and I truly enjoyed reading it.
Lucky Dawg!
Scott, sounds like a fabulous experience in every way. I've seen the YT vids -- can't wait to see the Kimmel versions for better picture and sound quality but even the "rough" versions were great. I've seen Barbasol and Little Lies live (guh is the only word I can come up with at the moment) but seeing KotN live was beyond beyond even guh.
Great info from the meet and greet. Love that David knows who you are. At the risk of sounding like Randy, you are Da Bomb!
Last night I thought I heard Kimmel say that "the Declaration Tour starts February 20." If its really going to be called the Declaration Tour, Declaration has got to be the next single. Nice to hear that the tour may be starting a week earlier than that (new gig added at the last minute?), but why Florida? Show some more love to NY, David! I want to hear KotN REALLY live!

Thanks!
Great recap Scott. I was looking for you in the crowd! LOL so totally great that you got to meet everyone. As others have said, I feel like I know you from reading your always articulate, well-reasoned posts. Sometimes I come out of lurkdom to try and play with the big boys, but people like you and kaydeecee and several others - you rule fandom.

You teach me to rise up.
Super!
Thanks for all the details, you have the best stories! And I hope the whole band knows we love them all. I can't wait to show my support to all 5!
AWESOME!!!
Thank you so much for the recap, Scott.
I'm off to contact the World Cafe Live/WXPN at the University of Pennsylvania in Philly. Time to bring David to the Ivy League.

How Awesome is this?
Scott, thank you so much for posting your fabulous recap, I'm grinning like a loon just from reading it. And thank you for letting us know that David recognized you, that must've been so much fun for you. And thank you also for saying how gorgeous Joey was and how the bass was so prominent. I've kinda got a crush on him too (!) and while watching the various YT vids of the show I could hear the bass more during Declaration too. And hearing KOTN live. I am so happy for you!
Wow!
Scott, I'm so glad you got to meet David! That's so awesome that he knew who you were.
I've already sent an email to one of the folks who runs my university's Spring Fling to see if they were booking David. I doubt they will, but it's worth a shot!
Conversation with the band vs. Avalanche at soundcheck? I'd definitely go with the former. But that could be because Avalanche is one of my least favorite songs on The Record. Ha!

Awesome recap, Scott! I'm so glad that you got to meet David (and how cool that he'd heard of you!). I've seen the YT clips of the concert and they sounded awesome. I flove that they did KOTN, its one of my favorite tracks on DCTR and has no business being hidden! The crowd was awesome and its great to hear that David and the EEB were totally in the zone. What a fantastic night for you, Scott, you so deserve it.
Contacted my college and requested David for a concert - Done! It was easy too, yay !!!!!
So as soon as I read this post, I contacted my college and talked to the assistant general manager there for the arena events and asked if they were going to have David there. He said: "not that I've heard of but that's something that we would probably do", YES! I said good because he's going to be here in FL in mid February, can you contact him and get him booked - pushy I know! But he was so sweet and said: "yeah sure we will look into it". Double YES! I was still not to happy with the answer and I asked how long does it take to get someone booked, hey mid February is just a month away. He said sometimes months - OK not good. I said to him that I'll be contacting him in a week, yeah I have his email through the website amazing, I love the internet. And I will contact him and see what's going on. This arena's capacity seating for a concert is 10,072 people according to wikipedia, that's prettty good. Now I have to find out if priority seating is available for alumni, LOL.

muah!!!!!
scott, dude..... i hearthands you for this.
of course david knows who you ARE.
you... da MAN.
i don't always agree w/everything you write... but it's always thoughtful, intelligent, and provocative. and i'm stoked to be part of the fandom with you, where we can do the geriatric rock-hands thing and exhaust every appropriate avenue in support of our guys.
hope to see ya down the line in real life.... arwen is a good friend of mine and I know, yours too....

I laugh at myself while the tears roll down....
So cool
Just as a side note. You work really hard to help have a fun, passionate online community for the dude. The funny thing is I think you and I started off with a mini-tiff way back when, cause when you debate, you're articulate and way into it. But looking back, your enjoyable posts have been one of the great things about the site. So glad you got to have this awesome evening. Throwing up mad devil horns at you.

He wants us to contact our favorite local college(s) with good venues and request a show.
Er, would that include colleges and universities in the Philippines, Scott? No? Drats.

TERRIFIC RECAP!
Wow, you got to meet him! And He knows you! And You got into the green room and met Neal-Andy-Joey! And all that was before you heard KOTN first live performance evah! What's wrong with me? I can't stop squeeing LOL. Thank you for the awesome recap, we're experiencing the experience vicariously through you here. Happy that you and all of the fandom who were there had such a great night with David. I can't wait for David & Band (are they gonna get a name yet?) to swing into tour. If the AI tour is any indication, we all know that he just gets better and better as it gains ground.

Also, so glad he had a great crowd to hear him and the band play. And he got shown lots of love.
I would have loved to hear KOTN. But I will go to a concert this spring somewhere.
I am also glad that he seemed to be in great spirits to you.

Joey the Amazing
Ive been fortunate to have a friend in common with Joey and he's spoken with me a few times via e-mail. He's gracious in writing, but ever more so in person. We spoke tonight for a little while at the gates, and he was solicitous, generous with his time and endearing. He touched my hands and said it was wonderful to have the attention. He seemed surprised that people would be waiting for him.
Truly a wonderful night. Glad to hear you got some true face time, Scott. It was nice meeting you at the show.

The Declaration Tour!
You lucky lucky man! Thanks for posting this so quickly! David is amazing. When I saw him in KC, I felt the same thing. He is such a great performer and a natural at workng the crowd. I don't think of Idol when I think of him either. But I am so grateful for that show because it gave the world an opportunity to meet, know, and come to love David Cook! This is just the beginning for this amazing rocker. The band was on fire tonight! Yes, Joey is unfolding right before our eyes and becoming something quite special, just like someone else we know that didn't start out as the obvious one! I love the fact that a year ago we were just learning about this guy named David Cook, and a year later as AI 8 airs it's first night, DC is the headliner on a major late night show! I love that he doesn't take himself too seriously and that Archie bit proves he can poke fun at himself! That was hilarious! "I'm right here!" He is a wonderful mixture of rock star, charming boy next door and goof ball. Love him!
