Thank you for continued patience as our staff troubleshoots the gamut of concerns you've raised since the 04/28/2009 site maintenance. As the comments and questions are coming fast and furious from all angles, please use THIS forum topic as the home of any technical support questions you may have as it's been quite the task to dig through the spread of misplaced news post comments, forums and private messages. With one location, we can expedite reporting and troubleshoot your requests!
Please know that the 4/28 update was not to change any of the current functions, but to ADD functions to the pre-existing tools you've grown accustomed to, with a few design tweaks. None of your content has been deleted or intentionally changed to work incorrectly, often times it's and extra dash or period in the developer code that makes the site go a little wonky for specific users.
Now that our staff has ironed out upwards of fifty (50) consistently reported issues since 4/28 that effected all users (if there's more PLEASE let us know if you're not alone), now we're moving onto your individual technical needs that we might not be seeing. Like you, the computers in our offices are different than those at your home or office. When making a post here, it's incredibly instrumental to us if you add your internet brower (Firefox, Internet Explorer 7, Safari etc.), operating system (OSX, Linux, Vista, Windows XP), timestamp (when the problem occurred) and where on the site it's happening (URL please: http://example.com/forum/forum-topic).
Bad example:
"JOSH! I can't delete my forum posts and because of an error I just posted 50 times and my signature is missing! Why are you ruining my life?!?!?!"
Good example:
"Josh, earlier today (3:14PM EST) on this forum: http://www.davidcookofficial.com/content/welcome-davidcookofficialcom I accidentally posted 50 times because I'm receiving a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error when I try to click Edit on my original post. I use Firefox Version 3.0.10 on a Microsoft Windows XP Dell computer. This is really, really frustrating, can you help?"
Rest assured, we're here to help! Users from all over the world have different computers and browsers and software and email servers and ISPs and.... it goes on and on. The more we know, the better we can help you!

Does anyone ever respond to these messages at all? It reflects so poorly on David and the site. The lyrics for the songs on his album still are not back on the site despite multiple requests. The email function has never been fixed. But the worst part is no one responds as to whether they've even noticed these postings asking questions. I'm sure maintaining this site among the myriad of other sites RCA has is overwhelming. But if it weren't for FoolsApril there would be no one to communicate with it seems. A reply every once a month might be nice.

Has anyone been having trouble receiving their private messages? I have been expecting some and I don't know if they have been sent and I am not receiving them or if they just have not been sent. Kind of important and timely and a 'need to know' issue.

Since it's been awhile since anyone has complained about how hard it is to post on DCO, I will add my story.
I started trying to sign up on DCO yesterday, 9/6. It bombed at least 10 times.... meaning the captcha thingy said I didn't enter it correctly. Made me think there was something wrong with my eyes or brain. Of course, after 5 times I knew it wasn't me. So, I tried again today and after about 5 times it finally took, and for the life of me I cannot figure out what was different.
Then I tried to post in the 'tickets for sale' thread and it bombed a couple of times. I changed the spacing of sentences and some punctuation and it finally took.
Other posters below are right.... if I didn't have tickets to sell I would have given up and just continued to read the threads instead of participating. Who has time and patience for the aggravation?

Thought I'd add my technical issue - I usually stay logged in all the time, but was not logged in when I came on around noon today. I could not log in w/ my password. I figured maybe I forgot it so I went to the tab to request a new password. Got the link in my e-mail, clicked on it, entered my username and a new password. It still just said my username / password were invalid. I tried that a couple times. haven't got it to work yet.
So I decided to just try a new username. I entered the info for a new one, had to enter the 'Captcha'. I probably reentered the Captcha 35 to 40 times, knowing I was entering it correctly at least a few times! I finally gave up! I tried again a few hours later and finally got on.
But really - no new users are ever going to try 40 times to enter the Captcha code! How many people are getting turned away each day???
ETA: I've also had problems with Captcha on my other account's posts. I hate to even try to post anymore because you have to enter the code 5 to 10 times to get anything to post.
I want to back up brave closeyoureyes on all points made; things are becoming frustrating for many of us. Also, for so many loyal fans and, quoting closeyoureyes, "the most patient people in the world," not receiving any communication back for our inquiries is not a good thing. Last communication from you guys, 5/5?
I heard that it is a complicated task to change some of these things that apparently are part of a new package of software you decided to use, but it really has made things difficult on this side. Maybe it's time for yet another software change. The captcha ridiculousness, lack of message notification, and my personal peeve, the completely disorganized pm system, are sad changes.
Help. Please.

The great 'upgrade' was on 4/28, so it's 3 months later. But you guys have still not fxed the private message notification. And Captcha is becoming a major problem. Sometimes I think David Cook fans must be the most patient people in the world.
I guess I'm not. Because it's such a b*tch to try and post at DCO that I'm on the verge of giving up. Seriously guys, you need to do something about this. Because it's driving people of the site (I'm not the only one who feels like this, and some very regular posters have now all but disappeared from the board). If you can't fix captcha, turn it off until you figure out how to fix it.
ETA: While I'm struggling with captcha, I'll whine some more. It's a big problem for me, since I keep a couple of blogs/threads that I regard as a service to other DCO members, such as the Everything Thread (links to important and helpful threads on the board - since there's no indexing function on the board) and a Multimedia blog where I link all the multimedia of David (more extensive than Foolsapril64's wonderful Archive). And with captcha going at me with all guns blazing, I can't update them.
ETA: Seriously guys, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix this!!!

Hi! Help! I know you hard-working kids are already aware that the spam filter (aka Capt. Cha) has been quite the overachiever lately. Well, the Captain has finally immobilized me. I have started this lovely blog in which I'm compiling guitar chords for David Cook's songs. But, when I try to edit it, I don't even get the "please fill out the Captcha" message - my edits just get rejected altogether as spam. I'm using a Dell laptop and a Dell desktop, both with Windows XP, one with IE8 and one with IE7. Is there any way to remove me and/or just that blog from the Captain's naughty list so I can update it? Thx. NtC

I'm having the same problem as the previous poster. My first time trying to post a forum topic, and I thought it was just me not being able to figure something out.
I cannot edit the Cookie Cutter Scrapbook, my pride and joy, my tribute to David. I have been doing this for 6 months. Why do you have all the extraneous forums listed. It keeps telling me I have to pick a forum and so cannot edit. I edit this all the time.

There is one that allows you to pick the DCO forum you want, but then there are all these that don't even work. So when you go to edit, it won't allow you to.

I am not sure where to post this, so I've chosen this thread. I do hope that David Cook reads his fansite, it would be amiss if he did not touch base on a weekly timeline at least. I have been a DC cook from the get-go, and I think he's wonderful, charming and a well-rounded everything. He's got the total package as we all get that.
Today, I need to express that in light of the passing of one of the most incredible entertainers in the entire world, MICHAEL JACKSON, that I know David Cook would find this an imeasurable loss to the music industry. I would like to see him post something about this icon, one who he said he enjoyed his music during the AI, and especially sang Cornell's version, and much better IMO, Billy Jean, just how much Michael Jackson's influence has been on all the pop, rap, rock, stage - the man was front and center all the way. There will never be an entertainer, a legend as amazing as Michael Jackson for all that he has given the music world. You can't think about the other crap that surrounds his obviously difficult upbringing and life, but his AMAZING contribution to the world of charity, of giving his words through music which he couldn't through conversation - Please, as fans of David Cook, please pay your respects to this entertainer through DC's site. I think it's appropriate.
The interview with Larry King, DC said that he wants to be the biggest entertainer of all - well, it's going to take a whole lot of work, and I'm not sure there could be shoes to fill in some of the true iconic legends this world has offered, but it's sure worth a shot.
RIP Michael Jackson. As a true fan of David Cook, I know he feels this loss, but I would certainly be one of many fans who would appreciate hearing this from David, too.

Hi, Josh and the Web Nerd Team. So, just now (Mon 5/25/09, 07:30 EST), I noticed that my "why I'm a fan", "favorite lyric," and "friends" were not mine at all, and I was "not authorized" to edit them. (IE7, Windows XP, Dell notebook computer). But, wait! There's more. I just went back to the profile page now to make sure (07:45 EST), and it's all back to normal. Is the server doing this on its own? Are you kids working at 7AM on Memorial Day to make sure the David Cook website is running smoothly? I don't know which to hope for. Anyway, thanks for all the hard work! Peace.
I am still having many problems with the site
1. You cant delete blogs that you may no longer want on your page.
2. There appears to be no area on the profile page where you can post a private message that only appears on your profile page not as a blog. Tonight I posted two personal messages to my profile page that went out to the community blog and I cant delete them. (Race for Hope & To David For Adam)
I would appricate your attention and a delete button! As this may seem unappropriate to DCO.
I hope that 5 things are going to go back to the way they were before:
1. A message showing on all pages when we have messages holding.
2. User name showing in green when they are on-line.
3. Unread messages showing "new" in red.
4. Having my "sig" show up with every post automatically.
5. A delete button.

I know you are likely all huddled working on this stuff and thanks for that. Would like to stress agreement with ILoveDCyes below: message situation was infinitely better before the change and please make a priority getting us notification, if you can't by email, at least when we log on. And the return of the delete button, on messages and otherwise, also really important.
I know I'm not telling you anything new, but I (we) have to share our problems with someone!

When I check my private messages, I get different messages if I click on My Profile as opposed to clicking on my user name.

In PM, all the sent messages are mixed in with the received ones. We used to be able to delete a whole bunch at a time, now have to delete each sent message, or received one. It takes forever. Will you be going back to the way it was? All the sent ones together, all the new ones, the folders?
We need the delete button on topics and replies also.

I thought the problems were fixed but on my profile page, the Why I am a David Cook fan that is on my page is not mine. When I click edit, it says I am not authorized to edit this page! Also the Favorite Lyric is not mine or the My Friends! Please fix again. My Photos are gone too. Thanks!

I use IE Version 7.0.5730.13 on a Microsoft Windows XP Dell computer. There were about 625 fans on the site at the time. I just upgraded to the fastest high-speed cable connection Cox provides. My virus checker claims I'm clean. I cleared my temporary files.
You're going to get hit with many, many more than 625 fans on Wednesday. Crossing my fingers.
