Fargo fan stalking and bus stalking, part 2
continued from yesterday's comment on dwop. . .
While my concert buddy and I waited to get into the joint, who should appear in line right behind us but the three ladies from Manila! They are the nicest women you can imagine, so full of enthusiasm and energy and love for David. They were so charming that we wanted to steal them and take them home with us, but they had, you know, return plane tickets. Oh, and families. I am positive they won’t mind if I tell two tiny but telling stories that involve them.
As you probably have already heard, two of them took David and the band shopping at the mall in Manila. They were also among the “Cookistas” fan group who gave him the custom guitar. So they got to spend a lot of time with him and they were acutely aware of the reception he got everywhere he went. I said to one of them, “I read that David thought your country would be Archie territory.” She smiled and shook her head and said, “No. It was all for him. It was all for that man—“ She pointed to the door of the venue. “—in there.”
Does that not make your heart and throat do funny things? Wipes tear.
The other story involves my concert buddy who is a lurker here and so much fun that I can only say it’s DCO’s loss that she doesn’t post comments. She asked our Manila friends to hand a CD to David to sign, being too shy to do it for herself. When they did, a woman said to David, “It’s for another lady.”
David immediately looked up and asked, “What lady?”
Several people pointed to my concert buddy.
He looked over their heads, straight at her, and waved.
She waved back.
So think about that. He didn’t just say, “Oh,” and sign it and go on. He stopped. He paid attention. He asked “What lady?” He didn’t go on with anything else until she was located for him and then he found her in the crowd and gave her a wave.
David Cook is a really good guy, yes? He’s thoughtful, thorough, and nice.
P.S. One last thing—another signing story--because I can’t remember if the Manila ladies have told this story themselves. At the bus line, they asked him if he would sign a whole lot of stuff for them. His response to these fans who had come 10,000 miles? “I’ll sign anything you want me to sign.”
And Dave? Your fans will go anywhere you perform!

Thanks for capturing this
I love accounts like this -- on video, in writing, whatever -- this capacity of his to "be in the moment" as the catch phrase has repeated over and over is nonetheless astonishing when you see it in person. We never expect him to be quite as THERE with us/fans as he is. I'm an old lady and I'm still learning from this young'un. Pay attention. Listen to people when they talk to you. Look them in the eye when they speak. Hug them. Please them when it's in your power to do it. How'd he come up with this magic recipe anyhow? Thanks picklesprite -- both for knowing it when you saw it and sharing it with us.

Gah!
So think about that. He didn’t just say, “Oh,” and sign it and go on. He stopped. He paid attention. He asked “What lady?” He didn’t go on with anything else until she was located for him and then he found her in the crowd and gave her a wave.
THIS is why I lub Dabid Cook. His thoughtfulness and attentiveness toward his fans is amazing.
However, I'm back to crying in the corner. Between reading gcelq's recap and yours, I realize we were probably standing RIGHT.NEXT.TO.EACH.OTHER. in the line before the concert, and quite possibly at the buses after the show. I'm not sure how many people you remember, but I'm the tall one that was wearing a red Dublin's t-shirt. I spoke with the Manila group a number of times before the show, and have video of David signing their photos after the show. I wish I would have paid more attention to people I didn't already know. ::izsad::

My Heart is doing funny things
This is the kind of recap I wait for, the details that show us all the reasons why we have fallen so head over heels for this man. The attention and importance he gives every single person is amazing. His heart is as big as his voice. Thank you for sharing these stories with us and please remember more. It's all about him, that man right at the top of this page. Is it a bit dusty in here?

If you're pleasing or pissing off everybody, you're doing something wrong ™David Cook

...because of your story. Yeah, that guy is just so awesome. Beyond awesome. Glad you had such a terrific time (and that your friend got a look and a wave from David). Glad he's doing so well. Because everyone deserves David Cook in their life.
Waving David
Great recap picklesprite. It brought back great memories for me. I was within 5 feet of the ladies from Manilla when David was signing all of those things for them. I wonder if we brushed past each other that day. As observant as David is and aware of his surroundings, I am unobservant.
I am so glad that you had a wonderful time and were able to come to the concerts in Mitchell and Fargo. Now my fingers and toes are crossed that David will return soon to our area.
If only we all could be as kind and gracious as David and the women from Manilla, the world would be a much better place.
