House of Blues acoustic show Recap with audio files and pics
Hi everyone and thanks for listening. This was my first David experience. I arrived around 10:30 and there were already people in the pass the line line so I hopped in until the rest of my group there. The first group were Colbie fans and the next were Cook fans. Can I just that there couldn't have been a nicer day weather wise for a line camp out. Our original plan was to eat lunch at 12 for pass the line but everyone was starting to arrive.
Once the rest of our group got there we took turns eating some lunch and the went out for some exploring. We all got pics with Gavin Degraw and he couldn't have been nicer. After he took
a pic with me he said "Nice meeting you". I wasn't a fan of his necessarily but I am now. Somewhere around this part of the day was when my phone stopped working on DCO. I was really looking forward to keeping you guys updated so sorry about that. I was having a blast in line with all the DC fans and posting it sure was making the time go fast. Around 3 is when we saw Lindsey Rose go into the HOB and then shortly after that was the soundcheck and I may have jumped around a little bit with excitement (hangs head in shame). After that is when I decided it was my last chance for a snack before we had to really be in line till the end so I put my good camera stuff in the car and set out for some food and that is when I found Kyle and Andrew outside Virgin and got a pic with them. Since I didn't want to risk missing anything I headed back to the line but little did I know the rest of the guys were in the store. Seriously sad about that but oh well I was really happy for all that had happened so far.
Got back in line with Jess and we were about 10th in line when everyone showed up and took thier spots. We ended up front row just slightly off center on Neal's side. I was 5 ft from Dave which was truely an amazing experience. Nothing I saw on youtube or on recaps could have
prepared me for the awsomeness I was about to witness. The wait inside was pretty tough but we had almost all DC fans around us except for the Colbie fans that got the middle. Natasha was pretty good and Gavin really won me over tonight even though I couldn't see much of him cause he spent a lot of time at the piano and it blocked all of his body but he was entertaining anyway. He was especially hilarious when he broke out into Silver Bells sung maybe a verse and then started making up the words to say something like "why did I start to sing this song if I didn't know the words." And then on to Dave.
So the fans got restless and were chanting. I knew he said something from behind the curtain but I couldn't tell what it was. When they first opened the curtain halfway Andy was sitting on his stool and he waved at us. Then the radio people came out to introduce him and the crowd went crazy. It was definitely the loudest of the night. So as you know Declaration was first and the crowd was singing loud and proud and when we got to the usual clapping part we knew what to do with no prompting from Dave. He sure has trained us well. I really wasn't sure how they were going to do this acoustic but it really worked. I was worried I wasn't gonna remember the words but I did and was singing like crazy. After Declaration the banter was asking us to cheer for the other acts and then Neal. Of course Neal got the loudest cheer at least from my perspective and then he went into a bit about who already owned the "record" and then eminded us about the virgin store and the crowd laughed.
Next he did Life on the Moon which was absolutely beautiful and powerful and I swear he was looking at me or at least made me feel that way. Just amazing how he can do that. I do have a 1 min snippet audio of it. He did that hit the glory note thing and then waited patiently for us to finish screaming so he could finish the song with a smirk just like in Light On. The next banter was mostly how shocked he really seemed to be with the crowds reaction. I don't think he expected how many of his fans was actually there and looked around at the guys and shot them a huge smile. He genuinely seemed surprised and thrilled by it. He said he needs to come back to HOB and I'm sure none of us will mind. Next he went into about how he used to do a lot of acoustic shows in Tulsa and then did a little finger circle ala Day Tripper around about including me and Jess and few others I lost track of all the names and said how this was much better. Next he said he was using the Christmas show to work on songs from the album to get ready for the tour and introduced Permanent so guess he's planning doing it now. I could his eyes glass over a bit right from the beginning and stayed that way for the whole song. At the end there was a huge deep breath and sigh to get over it. Clearing it wasn't much easier the second time. Also we noticed that he got a new Grey Matters bracelet since he gave his other one away at the Disney Parade taping. There was definitely no plan for the band to join him this time as Joey actually walked off to the side.
The next banter is when Joey did his Cosby impersonation by saying RUDYYYYYYYYYY. He started playing some random song and said they needed to do something interesting and thats when Neal pretended like he was gonna smash his guitar so Dave said "do it" and then Neal said "Are you gonna buy me a new one?" Then Dave said something about his money being tied up in Escrow. It was so nice to see the guys getting into the banter. Next up was Heroes and of course nailed it as always. It was kind of strange though since he stayed on his stool the whole show. Did miss him moving around the stage. Next banter was I honestly can't remember and then Mr. Sensitive. I know I got better audio than the cellcast. Next was all the banter with the Hats. I guess There was some sort of bet between Dave and Joey and I think Dave lost and had to wear the Santa Mickey hat but Dave made all the guys wear regular mouse ears.
Now I have to say this because seeing all the guys in mouse ears was a special
moment for me. They combined my 2 passions in life. All things Dave and Mickey
Mouse. Some of you may have seen my profile with the Mickey pic and some may
have not but I worked at Disney for 6 years as Mickey Mouse so that place is very
special to me. I found out after my first season of doing the Christmas parade
that I had cancer and what got me through was my desire to go back to work making
a difference in kids lives even if it for a few seconds. Seeing the guys embrace
Disney was very special and I love them for it. So within 9 months of getting
diagnosed I was back at work as Mickey and truly felt blessed and hoped I made
some small difference for people.
The guys really have mastered Light On and we sang our hearts out at the proper
cue and throw of mickey hats and it was over. I was also one of the people that headed outside. I was kinda hoping to get to see Dave but like everyone else I was in pain and being at the front we were pretty roasted and needed fresh air.
After alot of waiting and now I know why since he went back on stage with Colbie we started seeing evidence that they might be headed out soon. Got to see Timmy pushing equipment to the cars and such. Somewhere around 10:30 Dave finally made his way out and got mobbed. Not that I know what a typical mob for him is but I certainly faced worse trying to walk from Fantasy Land to Cinderella's castle as Mickey. I sure dragged a crowd behind me so maybe thats why I jumped into the fray somehow being lucky he grabbed my CD cover and signed it and truly capped off a very special day for me. I had an amazing time meeting everyone and bringing back Disney memories. Of course Dave was great as he always is but now I can finally understand what everyone is talking about. Fuzzy youtubes just are not the same. I am now going to be doing this again anytime I can. So thank you all for listening and hope I didn't
ramble to long.
Well for such a long recap I can't believe I forgot about Man In Box. The banter before was about the rock band stuff which has been covered. The people around me knew the song and were singing along. I had never heard it before so I just clapped but I loved it.
Really good youtubes here of Light On I forgot about the cell phone part.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
Thank you very, very much. That's an excellent write up. It makes me feel like I was there, and I really wish I had been able to go.
I never heard of Man in the Box either. Maybe it's an advantage that I had not listened to modern rock after U2 and Springsteen until I heard David Cook. His cover songs might be new music to me. In any case, he sings them so amazingly well, I'm sure everybody will go nuts for them.
Thanks again for sharing your personal story. I'm glad to hear you were able to go back to work, and I hope you are continuing to do well.
By the way, I love Disney too. I grew up in Tampa, so I've been to Disney around 20 times. It always makes me happy. And, Mickey is my favorite.
Thank you!
Thanks so much for this. I enjoyed reading your updates yesterday on the TWoP thread, too!
