My 1st Cook Show (3/20/2009 at the Borgata)
Can I start off with saying, "The show was an absolute blast!!" Not only did I get to watch David's gig LIVE, I too got to meet fellow fans who were also there. It was indeed a pleasure to meet y'all!!
When I arrived at the Borgata, it kinda started off with a snag as my cellphone wouldn't connect to friends who we agreed to meet - I could guess as much it was due to network problems, especially when my number isn't exactly a US-registered one.
However, as time went by, things began to turn for the better after I finally got through to Joyce - yes, we had agreed to meet up for that event. When we met, I was introduced to a few other friends who were with her, Tara, Jeri, Mary Ellen and Allison. Along the way, I had the honor of meeting those whom I've heard of, but have yet to meet them face-to-face, to the likes of Jeannine, John and Scott. (Ya'know, when I was told that there are many Dashers and DCOers who were looking forward to meeting me, I felt pleasantly flattered. LOL!) Also, there were also those who recognized me right away, though we only met for the first time. Well, I would say we're definitely all fated to meet up!
To cut the long story short, we hung out at the Borgata before we entered the Music Box, to grab some bites, connecting with fellow fans etc. To be precise, we walked circles around the entire place. To some extents, I think we have walked about 5-6 circles! LOL!!
When the show started at 9pm, it was Ryan Star who opened the show first. When I watched him perform, it sure felt like dejá vü to me as I thought back to 3 years ago, when I had also caught Ryan's showcase in Singapore. The world sure is small, ain't it? LOL.
After Ryan's opening gig, the show went into a brief intermission before David and his bandmates came out. He opened with The World I Know before slipping into Heroes. Damn! The live version of Heroes just sounded better than the one in DCTR. The other songs he performed from DCTR included the likes of Life on the Moon, Mr Sensitive, Lie, Bar-Ba-Sol, Come Back To Me etc. He too did other songs like Souvenir, Hot For Teacher, We're Only Honest When We're Sleeping, Make Me (from the Mid-West Kings days), with Light On closing the show. It was like David wants us to keep a light on for him even after he's gone. That is, for the night.
Out of the songs in the setlist for yesterday's show, I definitely dig Souvenir lots. For one sure thing, the whole experience will be a souvenir for me to keep. But most of all, the defining moment of the show definitely has to come from Joey going all random, egging the crowd to all go...
"I say David, you say Cook!
David! COOK! David! COOK!
I say David, you say Cook!
David! COOK! David! COOK!"
Roffles!!
After the show had ended, we stuck around for a while longer to hang out for a bite. By the time I bid everybody goodbye, it was already 2 in the morning. It may be a cold night in Atlantic City, but my heart felt that sense of warmth.
All in all, it was an awesome experience I will not only remember, but also to cherish. Though it's kinda sad I will not be ble to attend tonight's show, I sincerely hope to be able to return to the States and attend another DC show soon!! I can still remember what Annette told me, "You're no llonger a Cook virgin!", which I would agree whole-heartedly (Thank you so much for everything Annette! Also, it's been a pleasure of mine to meet you!!)
**PS: A thought crossed my mind: Scott once mentioned something like a Word Nerd Convention, which I would think this event to be so. LOL!! =p
