My Experience At The David Cook Concert In York
I was going to this concert with my mom, which I give her a lot of credit for since she wasn't really feeling that great (I even heard her complain to my dad on the phone, "I'm going to this concert that I don't really want to go to...") After we were both ready and stuff, we drove those 45 minutes over from Lancaster to York, while listening to David's album along the way.
It wasn't hard getting into the campus, suprisingly we got a great parking spot near the building and everything. Of course, it was as I was planning to get out that this rude girl parked her car far too close to my end, making it nearly impossible for me to get out. Luckily, my mom managed to back up our car so I had more room to get out. Then, after a quick, "Hurry up, Mom" from me, we got out and headed inside.
Inside, there was a line leading all the way upstairs, the doors hadn't opened yet. So, for the next twenty minutes, all of us people were waiting on the stairs or upstairs for the doors to open, all excited to see David Cook. When the people finally started moving, that's when we got up those stairs and up the second floor which would lead into the Pullo Center.
Before we went in though, I did buy myself a David Cook shirt (For those of you who've seen the merchandise, it's the dark gray one with the tour dates on the back). I now officially own three shirts with David on them. Then, Mom and I made our way inside and took our seats...thank heaven that the seating was assigned so there was nothing to worry about. Our seats were on the aisle and I am happy to say that I could see the stage...and David perfectly and didn't need to lift my toes up to look over anyone's head. As far as seating, I'm very happy with it, since at concerts I'm usually seated up in the far end of the stands and not fifteen rows from the stage.
Ryan Star came up first, as expected. I hadn't bothered looking him up before the show and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he was actually a good singer. As far as his songs that he sang, I loved 'Last Train Home,' (perhaps the fact that it came from the movie, 'P.S. I Love You) and then 'We Might Fall.' My mom found him pretty cool...but did think him mostly like a David Cook wannabe since they were dressed similarly.
After a half an hour break, where I was waiting patiently and wanting David to come out, the concert finally did start and needless to say, when I saw him, I started jumping up and down and shouting. He sang 'Heroes' first, always a favorite of mine and then after that, he'd sung 'We're Only Honest While We're Sleeping.' I'd never heard that song of his before, but now I understand what everyone was talking about on how good it is (wish it could've made the album).
He was very encouraging to us to stand up from our seats, clap our hands and shout. He said a polite hello to three girls or women who were in the front. I think they were little girls, which was so sweet of him. Then, he turned up the house lights about a couple of times, wanting to get a good look at us. I don't think he saw me (don't worry, all I did was clap and wave), but when he turned his head my direction, it felt nice to think maybe he had. 'Mr. Sensitive' was great and 'Breathe Tonight' is always a favorite of mine. 'Kiss On The Neck' was pure gold, the crowd was really up and excited during that one.
After a few more encouraging of claps and an "I think I like you guys," to us, David then went on describing about how so much has changed for him since he'd been on Idol and played 'The World I Know.' I actually had tears in my eyes when he sang it, since it was one of my favorite songs that he'd sung on Idol. Then, after he'd sung that, it was on to 'My Last Request.' 'Come Back To Me' was quite awesome and he explained to the audience how it would be one of two of his newest singles.
Then after CBTM, he'd said, "This next song is about the last year and a half of my life," and went on to sing 'Life On The Moon.' After that, he jokingly talked about while he was traveling on college campuses, he made to add in some education somewhere in the tour. This was the sign for...'Hot For A Teacher.' After dedicating the song to all the teachers in the audience, my mom started laughing and called to me, "I can't wait to tell your Dad!" The reason she found this so funny is because my mom is actually a teacher at a private school...so naturally it made her laugh.
After an electrifying performance of 'Hot For A Teacher,' he left the stage to get us roused up for his encore. Then he came back out with the band and asked, "You guys want more?" After the entire audience screamed out, "YYYESSS," he pretended to look all bashful and went, "Well...OK."
When 'Bar-ba-sol' started playing, I don't think I was more excited for a song than I was for that. Throughout the whole song, I was clapping non-stop to the beat and moving my feet, singing along to it. It was truly an unbelievable moment. Then, to finish it all off, he sang 'Light On,' which I believe is an appropriate way to end a concert. Throughout the song, I could actually see my mom watching me out of the corner of my eye as I sang along to 'Light On,' as if she were living it up to see me so happy.
I have to say, I was totally unprepared when the song was over and David called to the crowd, "Thank you guys and have a safe trip." When the lights went on, I actually felt bewildered and went to Mom, "Is it over all ready?"
Of course, my mother in her typical fashion went, "Well, of course it is, Honey. He was only going to be playing for only a hour or less."
After we managed to get out of the building safely and into the car, I did catch a glimpse of David's tour bus and a bunch of people waiting a few yards away from it, eager for a chance of seeing him or something. As we drove away, a part of me was wishing I could've gotten the chance to see him up close and personal, such as getting an autograph from him and I was quite quiet on the ride home, both from exhaustion of clapping and dancing throughout David's performance. To be honest, I don't think I've been as into a concert as I was into his.
While Mom and I ate a quick dinner of McDonalds on the way home, Mom finally asked what I thought of it and all that. I told her about how I thought it was awesome, but...I had wished that the concert could be longer.
She asked, "Did you feel cheated because it wasn't longer?"
I replied, "No, of course not. It just feels like I'm Cinderella and I had to leave the rock-ball sooner than I wanted to." (Yes, yes, I actually did say those words...sorry if they sound corny).
Well...that is the story of when I saw David Cook in concert last night. Overall, it was a thrilling experience and I'd do it all over again, if I could. I admit that I wish I could've heard him play 'Declaration,' 'Man In The Box' and 'Billie Jean,' but honestly, I feel very blessed to have gotten what I got and I walk away from this proudly have seen David again...just one of many concerts of his I shall attend to in the future (it was my second time seeing him, first time was the Idol tour). My mom actually enjoyed herself and said he was a great performer. I couldn't have agreed more with her statement.
The crowd from what I saw was a very polite, decent crowd. I also saw a variety of people from teeny bobbers, young elementry kids both boys and girls, college kids my age and both older women and men. I am happy to report that I did not see a single pair of bunny ears all night or any crazy-like fans (from what I saw)! In fact, I really don't think any one caused any kind of trouble at all.
I know this story of mine probably isn't the most exciting of the tour stories that have probably been shared and it is a shame that I did not get to see David after the show...but hey, I'm only 19 and David Cook is still a new guy on the block in the music industry, I've got all the time in the world to see many concerts of his. Plus, the fact that I have classes this morning played a role in my not staying after (yes, even college students need a schedule for bed).
Thanks for listening to my story,
Amy
