My Pony, the Antelope Valley Fair Concert 8-20-09

I should be sleeping. Where to start?

It was a hot breezy August night in the Antelope Valley...nothing new, it's typical for this time of year. What isn't is when such an awesome concert comes together perfectly at the annual fair here in the high desert. Don't get me wrong, we get some great entertainment at our little fair, north of Los Angeles, but David Cook was one for the record books. The crowd was big, loud and totally into it all the way through. The band was smokin' and the set list was meant to keep everyone on their feet for the entire show, which it did. The last minute addition of "Permanent" was beautiful and unexpected, but David delivered it perfectly.
Although the security let a "mosh pit" form at the front (I don't think they could have really stopped it) I stayed back in my row 8 seat, now with an unobstructed view of the entire stage since the people in the rows in front of me took advantage of the rush to the pit. I think the words of the girl in front of me were "'bye mom" to her mother, who stayed behind.
I tried to take some pictures, but I found I just wanted to stand and take in the whole scene, not try to view it through a camera screen. Although, as usual, my eyes are drawn to David, I was able to also absorb the whole band dynamic and how well they play off each other. They continue to get tighter and more in sync the more time this tour goes on. The difference from Jimmy Kimmel to Del Mar to tonight is apparent. These are the only shows I've seen live and since they have been so far apart, it is easier to see the progression, for me. I really thought we would get the band name tonight, with all the teasing David did, but I guess he's enjoying the cat and mouse game too much.
The set list is posted and the YouTubes and pictures that are sure to appear will give a good representation of what I witnessed, but the pleasure of actually being there to experience it is hard to reproduce on small screens and frozen moments.
Thanks to David Cook, his band that needs a name, The Crash Kings who themselves were remarkably good and unique, The Antelope Valley Fair for reading my email request back in January, the awesome crowd who showed a lot of love for David and the band and all my DCO friends that I was able to see and hang out with tonight. Everybody rocks.
Oh and David, sorry about all that (Antelope Valley) wind in your hair but thanks for skipping the hat tonight anyway, you looked and sounded great.

I was there, too. He was awesome. Thanks! It just went by too fast though. I've been waiting SOOO long for him and his band to get here. Wow. Just wow. I'm going to Filmore and Newport. Can't wait.

I totally agree --- this was the best show ever --- at least that I've been to! Just posted my recap on the concert thread....

Beautiful recap.
That's how I feel to. I just stand there and take it all in with great awe. I think David would probably be a little uneasy if he realized how many people just stand and stare at him and his gorgeous voice and face. I was up close and personal a the Owens concert ' in the 'mosh pit' as you call it. Also at Lansing only I couldn't hardly see anything (vertically challenged). Anyway, I had a perfect view of David at Owens (right behind Angie) and all I could do was stand there in awe. Guh--it was all surreal to me.
My sixth concert will be Allegan and I am already excited---again.

What a great recap, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Little details are always appreciated! I'm very happy that you enjoyed yourself and thanks for the comment about David and band's progression from JK to now, that was an interesting perspective.
