My reaction to David's request for privacy
I am hesitant to say this, because I don't want to start any fighting, but there is something I have to say. I think we on the DC fansites should really reflect on our own posting behavior, and take a close look as to whether or not we are actually enabling the stalking.
Yes, we can have a thread like this one where we strongly condemn what we feel is deviant behavior. We can congratulate each other when we respectfully interact with David when we are lucky enough to meet him.
But how many times have we also read word for word someone's story about how they managed to meet David or one of the band members, even when that story might be over the line? How often have we expressed jealousy over people who can go to 3, 5, 15 concerts? How often have we shut down even constructive criticism of David, thereby sending the message that only unadultered admiration of him is allowable? How often have we objectified him, thereby sending the message that he isn't truly another human being?
These are elements of the fandom that give me pause, personally, and I would like to encourage open discussion of them in light of David's blog.

Woops!
Elizabeth, I have no idea if you will ever see this, but I had no idea you replied to my blog post. I didn't even think to check it. Oh well! Thanks for your thoughts. It is always good to keep things in perspective.
Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.
I really get what you're saying about the creepy-stalker people, but that's what security is for. I mean there are always going to be crazies out there, but on a lighter note there will also be fans like you and I who know that David Cook (although a fantastic entertainer) doesn't exactly have beer flavored *ipples. (If you know what I mean.) Why waste our time asking stalkers questions like "How often they expressed jealousy over people who can go to 3, 5, 15 concerts?" or Why do some people hang off of David's words like he's Yoda? when we could be asking ourselves much more important questions like- If crime doesn’t pay… does that mean my job is a crime?or -Could crop circles be the work of a cereal killer? Long story long... you can't control the thoughts and actions of some nut-job stalker no matter how much you blog about it. The only thing you can do is block the wierdo, flag them as offensive, and enjoy the entertainment of the site. After all, that's what it's here for:)
Hope you feel better about it, and happy blogging:)
