A new DCTR review on Finnish music site Findance.com

I tried to translate it at work, in a big hurry.. used Google translator but it came out ridiculous so tried to fix it a bit. So sorry for the bad translation but I hope you'll get the idea.

This guy is not easy to please but he's fascinated with Cook.. how surprising LOL. World Cookification continues..

American Idol is a show which, in women's category, produces only one type of solo artists. Every one of them is “Kelly Clarkson Part 71”: strong in their sound, even a little frightening type of women, due to their screaming-like singing. Their musical background usually is anything useless r&b/pop and having listened to them on the radio they all sound alike. After this chauvinistic start, I apologize for those who got insulted with this opinion. I usually do not just follow this TV show.

However, I watched the season in which David Cook brawled with his manly voice. "This guy obviously has star quality", I was thinking ever since the beginning of the season. And so the story went.. this soon 27-year-old boy from Houston became the winner last year. Unfortunately, the coronation song The Time Of My Life is pure c**p (as also the Finnish Idol coronation songs tend to be). A ballad with all the possible super-hit mega song ingredients, except that I do not understand why it has sold over a million digital copies.

A taste of real Cook we got with the song Light On, which is perhaps one of the most all-time best tracks on any Idol contestants’ debut albums. This song was written by Chris Cornell and the song sure sounds like CC. About the other songs on the album.. Life On The Moon sounds too “grand” because of the strings, considering how “rock” Cook is. However the song has a really excellent melody, as do all the first five songs on the album.

Cook has been involved in writing all the songs except Light On and The Time Of My Life. Proge-ish Bar-ba-sol charms with its stunning guitars, but then the quality decreases significantly. The promising start, that you would have liked to listen through the entire album, is cut by a set of “peaceful” songs. But Permanent will blow you away, and I’m saying this very positively. The way Cook uses his voice, accompanied with strings and the piano, is very powerful. There will also be something nice between the last two tracks..

The beginning of this album is “fireworks” but then the mood turns too peaceful. It’s a disadvantage as the general mood on the album is very fresh and rocking. In general, I do not like American rock, but this time, thanks to Cook, at least this album woke my interest. The artist is credible and I think he will not be just a falling star (*meaning he will be there for a long time*). Also the fact that Cook released an indie album (rewarded in indie gala) before Idol tells something about his attitude. This is a story that is likely to be continued.

"Houston, we have no problem."
