Part 1 of my letter to David regarding going to AI....

Average: 5 (1 vote)

(I actually sent this via email to David a while back, I dont know if he read it or not but I hope one day he does)

Dear David,

I have watched AI for all 7 season with my children. They love the show so much and they invest their hearts in it and vote for their favorite every year….they tried to get me to vote…and of course I didn’t, and told them one day if there was someone I believed in, I would vote…but until then…..

My last child (I have 5) was a senior in high school and we sat together to watch the first episode of the 7th season….it was a bit teary for me (actually everything that was last with her was a bit teary)….She would be leaving this year to go away to college…the season began and she had her favorite picked out from the beginning… she was an Archie fan…she looked at me and asked “Mom, do you have any favorites?” She figured I didn’t since I never did….my response was no…but dare I tell her I actually had a favorite?

We watched each week, she grew more fond of Archie……each week she would ask me that same question….Mom, don’t you have a favorite? I was evasive whenever she asked me…do I tell her I have one, and it’s not hers! It kind of all spilled out 70’s week I was like OMG HE IS AWESOME!...PICK UP JAW FROM FLOOR…the kids had never heard All Right Now…and I had smiles from ear to ear.. Cami asked again…….MOM you have a favorite don’t you???? I told her no….lie lie lie lie lie….please lightening don’t strike me now! 80s week came and I could not contain myself……..are you kidding me HELLO? Cami had not heard the song before so had no reference as to what you did with the song…thank heaven for YouTube! She made me admit I had a favorite…and that night I voted for the first time… and not just once…for 2 hours…

Each week my daughter and I would be voting together and laughing as my vote would cancel out her vote…we laughed so much about it…but we still did it anyway…she got so annoyed at one point later in the competition that she got her dad’s cell phone, the house phone, her brothers cell phone and her own…Me, I would just be on my one phone voting for the 2 hours…so basically it would be 4 votes to my 1! By the way when you did Billie Jean……..she was like CRAP……he is going to win!

My daughter and I had so much fun during this time….we would complain that nothing was on TV……….so we would smile at each other and say….lets watch it again!!!! Our family was getting way annoyed with us, but we didn’t care!!! Anyone that came over, we would make them watch our favorite moments…DVR’s are amazing!!!! We both knew there was something much bigger going on than the usual AI…did you feel it too?

A first for this mom…I had purchased an ITunes card, and I made my daughter download all of your songs on her iTunes…she would get mad and say YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE AN IPOD MOM! The only reason she would do it would be because I would let her download Archie songs……ummmm I now have an IPod!

I was trying to spend some quality time with my daughter before she left for school..I wanted to really have some magical moments with her…I actually got on my knees and asked my Heavenly Father….a simple prayer really…I asked if I could have some fun with her, something she would always remember. Not a day later my prayer was answered in a way that I never dreamed of in fact He answered in such a big way that I was in speechless!!

I got a call from Howard who is associated with AI. He was calling me wanting my daughter and the rest of the girls to be PIT Girls on AMERICAN IDOL……….When I regained my faculties…pick up jaw from the floor! I of course said OMG…………YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine my daughters face when I told her? She cried…Our first assignment was the results show Mariah Carey week…He said if the girls look great, behave and show lots of enthusiasm (as if they wouldn’t!) possibly they will be invited to a performance taping…….I cannot tell you how fun it was to take the girls to AI………I thought they were going to just implode when we walked into the studio for the first time. My daughter kept looking back at me like…..OMG…..I can’t believe I am here…are you kidding me? We shared many glances and we knew what the other was thinking…this was the perfect experience to share with my daughter…how would we ever forget this????

I am out of room..so will post letter to David Part 2

I especially love the reason you and your daughter ended up on the show..PRAYER. God really answered your prayers like he says ..more than you could ever ask or think. My 18 yr. daughter and I got to share some special time together too.We went to the concert in Charlotte together and got to meet most of the idols, but we just missed David Cook by about 10 minutes. You are a great writer ,you make me almost feel like I was there too. Again really awesome story, thanks.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I am very moved by your stories and can't wait for Part 2....
I also want to know how your daughter took it when your favorite won.
