Pitching a Venue
Below is my original pitch letter to The Music Box @ the Fonda Theater, which I amended to include David's CAA agent information. I learned that CAA represents David exclusively, so it’s possible that the tour management company only “manages” the tour while David’s agents book it. I’m not sure how it all works, but include all the info. You want to do as much legwork for these people as possible. The easier you make it for them the more likely they’ll do something. They’ll be impressed and motivated. Use my letter as a template, but pick and link some updated concert videos. There have been a multitude of fantastic shows and videos since I wrote this back in early June. If you have first hand experience at concerts, talk about it and personalize it. Add recent TV appearances to the list (with video links if you want) such as Home Run Derby, GMA and Regis & Kelly. Good luck and please keep me posted!! Keep it to approximately this length - you want it to be comprehensive but you don't want to ramble or go too long. Sell David, but without squeeing.

Dear Sarah,
I’m not sure if you’re the correct person, or if someone else at The Music Box at the Fonda books professional acts. I would appreciate your passing this along to the appropriate person if it’s not you!
I am writing to see if you would consider booking David Cook and his band. David is beginning the second leg of his national tour next week at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar. His “Declaration Tour” (February 13 through early June) concentrated heavily on East Coast, Southeast and Midwest college venues and casinos. We West Coast fans are starved for a concert and it would be great to have Cook and his band perform in Hollywood. Every concert on his 63 stop “Declaration Tour” was sold out, including the 115,000-person concert in Manila, The Philippines. Some venues sold out within 8 minutes. David and his band also had the opportunity to perform in the Middle East for the U.S. Troops in January via the USO.
I attended two concerts at The Borgata Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, at the end of March and the shows were sensational. David and his band are LA-based and they have added some California shows in August (California State Fair in Sacramento and the Antelope Valley Fair in Lancaster) so it looks like he’s finally working his way west this summer.
David has a platinum album titled “David Cook.” The album has spawned four current successful singles (Come Back to Me, Light On, Permanent, and Bar-Ba-Sol, which has a great rock swagger). He also has a superb independent alternative rock album from 2006 called “Analog Heart.” He and his band have appeared on SNL, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, three times on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” twice on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” three times on “Ellen,” plus numerous other TV appearances.
