Venue - UPDATE
JANUARY 10, 2009, 4:11 pm
As most of you know from reading the threads, the general support just isn't there for this. I doubt we could pull it off unless a greater number were willing to participate, much less pitch in. I hope this little "exercise in vanity" hasn't put anyone off too much - maybe we can all hook up during the tewer. You guys are great. Hearthands to all!

location
New York is a personal preference but Kansas City seems like a good compromise so I'm good with that too.
For what it's worth...
KC would be my best option, for reasons similar to Wavelength (except add 1 hour drive time). Flying, while not out of the question, would be more of a hassle. I also like the central location of KC for both east and west coast peeps, lodging/rental costs would be lower, as would venue cost most likely.

East Coast
East coast is my preference, but KC is not out of the question. My concert buddy is not a flyer so we'd be driving from NC (logging onto Google maps now to see how far KC is from us...).
KC Works for Me, Too
Please don't forget that some of us come from the west. KC seems like a good compromise. Some of the suggestions could pan out to be expensive in the lodging and venue departments. I'd rather my money go toward David's fees.
If some of the KC and Blue Springs locals want to join in, more power to them, they're some of David's oldest fans. Wouldn't we control the venue size?
Thanks for looking into all this for us.
Venue
I'm in the Boston area, but am willing to go anywhere that has a major airport. KC is central and much easier and cheaper than NYC, Boston, DC or other big city. it would really help to know what his tour schedule is so that we could make sure it fits into his itinerary. We might need to be flexible until we know what dates are available and where he will be. This is exciting!!
Question
I would still like to hear what you guys have to say regarding my doubts (so I can finally make up my mind one way or another). So why do we want to have a private concert rather than simply attending whatever public event we can make?
location location location
I would vote for NYC, Boston, or even a CT location, maybe Hartford area.
I could possibly help out with venues if/when we get to that point.

I feel you closer than you are, but I've been waiting far too long...
Wherever it is, is where I want to be
Any major city is fine by me--plane fares tend to be cheaper, and venues more plentiful.
I guess DC would be my first choice, followed by Chicago, STL, Tulsa, KC, Denver (the Soiled Dove is a great intimate venue, but alas, I have no connections!), and Philly.
I live in Austin, TX, where performance venues abound, but it would probably be too out of the way, and thus too expensive, for most people.
WhereEVer
I live in NYC, so obviously somewhere in the area would be my ideal. (Especially since then I wouldn't have to explain to Mr. T where I was going.) But anywhere that you can get to from NY on a direct flight would work.
One the one hand, KC isn't a bad alternate location because it's central, and probably most people who'd need to fly can fly there directly. On the other hand, it might be difficult for it not to become a much bigger event if its in his hometown. I'd prefer this stay under the radar. Otherwise, its not very "private" is it?

Where?
I think it would be fine almost anywhere but I do prefer Santa Barbara as it is pretty, fun, easy and I think David would enjoy it.
Still, I'm good for anywhere really.
I do think if we have it in the KC area, a lot more people are going to want to come than we will have seats.
How will we keep it DCO only? Some place a little off the beaten track like SB would be more private.
Ideas
I second anywhere that is easy and cheap to fly to and get transportation to the hotel and venue. NYC is a thought but the cost may become an issue. I like KC as an idea, I can easily and cheaply fly there and it shouldn't be too hard to get around. Tulsa is a decent idea too since I think my carriers go there non stop but others may have to take connections. I'm not too find of California, too expensive and difficult to get to venues without a rental car, IMO. Any other middle of the country cities, Chicago, Vegas (venue might be the issue here) and I'll throw my city Denver out there. Unfortunately I do not have any connections or experience to help out with Denver but it is a centrally located big city with a large airport!
Same for me
Any place that's easy to fly to and stay at.

Chicago
I live in Chicago, but would travel anywhere within a reasonble drive. Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Tulsa, St. Louis, anywhere in the midwest. Kansas City is probably ideal due to centralized location.
KC
KC has my vote, since it's within driving distance for me (5 hours). I would have dificulty swinging plane fare for a site further away. (Omaha is even better...wink)

DC
Well, DC in DC is preferred for me. But could anywhere from Atlanta (major hub) to Philly, NYC, etc. And going to KC would be kind of cool (and central).
Dallas
I live in the Dallas area but will go anywhere for a full length concert. Can drive to Tulsa. Will go to NY, KC, California, etc. etc.
ETA KC is also David's home and, Deity forbid, we don't have enough to support this on this site, DC=42 and the "Dash" there are enough home-town fans who would be able to go (unless this is kept completely private and I'm okay with that)

Event
I live in Tucson. I'd travel pretty much anywhere in the USA. But I think Kansas City would be best because it's central.
