"We can't buy his CD from a David Cook Fan!" - an encounter with funny Archie fans...

was working at Wal-Mart and I was on the very last register for most of the day. I notice this groupe of three girls, about 11 or 12 and they're talking very loudly and very excitedly. I don't think too much of them until they come back to my area after about 20 minutes, looking very upset. They talk to the cashier in front of me for a minute, then they come to my register. One of the looks at me, studies me, and then says this:

Girl: We want to buy something.
Me: Ok. I can help with that.
Girl: We need to know something first.
Me: Ok... what's the problem?
Girl: [pause] Are you a David Archuleta fan?

I then notice that they are all clutching Archie's CDs in their hands. I look down at my wrist, on which I had written "David Cook owns my heart" on it during class earlier that day... so I say to them:

Me: He's nice, but I'm not really a fan.
Girl: [very serious] Did you vote for David Cook?
Me: Yeah, I did.
ALL of them: OMG! you suck! ahhhh! (really, they said this)
Girl #2: We can't buy our CD's from a David Cook fan!
Girl #3: You're the only one left and now we can't buy them.
Me: If it helps, I like Crush. I think it's cute.
Girl #1: Nooooo! We can't buy it from you. It's just wrong!

I'm trying soooo hard not to laugh, because obviously, they had just spent all their time asking everyone the same question. So either Wal-Mart is full of Word Nerds, or no one knew what they were talking about. And they're totally freaking out because they won't let me check it out to them... so finally, I just show them how to use the self-check line....

Then I took my break and laughed for 15 minutes... it was hysterical.
