I haven't looked elsewhere so this is a first analysis of the lyrics from me. Please humour me in this as I'm off the cuff entirely.
The first thing that jumps out is my opposite take on the "any other way" line. I'm seeing this as the myth that there is any other way as being "this is the only way". Otherwise he would have to have suggested more along the lines of "many other ways". His use of "any" excludes others. It's a tricksy way to write it. Then the realisation that he can exist outside 'normal' is the temporary sanity - he does not expect it too last but while he's on this path he's going to figuritively kill himself to make his work of meaning and substance.
A long way down from the summer to the fall is a great line. Suggests progression but fear of failure and perhaps an expectation of failure.
if I tell you you're everything would you sing along suggests to me that he still feels the need to get buy-in, that his words will not be enough. But he craves the affirmation - the 1000's singing along to this anthemic tune might just be enough for him. Goes to the depth of his insecurity.
So the next verse he's examining the life he has had and the lessons he's learned - and finding half-faith reasons to be grateful. But the half that is missing is his faith in himself. But it's growing. He just needs to feel he is equally deserving.
The next verse I love for the progression on this new path. He's finding affirmation in his own writing - not needing it all to come from external buy-in. He now understands a gently feeling in himself which is pride and longevity - perhaps the sanity is no longer temporary but the new normal. As he does, he transcends the fall (the fear of failure) - passes through winter unscathed (the lonely writing period) - and seeks to forgive HIMSELF.
As we sing YOUR daily anthem - The switch from A to YOUR means he's now personalised the anthem - he understands the truth of it. And he's done it for you as well. The truth: have faith in yourself, your substance, your way..... because you are equally deserving in life and forgiveness.
There you go. A little different from yours. Mine is less widely spiritual and more at the personal level, that's all. It's a fantastic song. And yes, I hope to sing it back at him at the top of my lungs one day!
