6 FEB: DUBLIN'S BARK O'LOUNGE – DCO's weekly thread is now OPEN!
UPDATE: Thank you all for stopping by on Friday! The bar is now closed, but we will reopen in a new 24-hr thread on the David Cook main discussion forum next Friday, February 13th starting around midday ET.

Hey, everyone! FoolsApril64 here! Welcome to the DCO online community’s weekly thread – our way to bring the David Cook lovin’ community together every week from our various corners and threads and blogs and hang outs – a virtual gathering place where anyone may drop by, have a drink, get to know each other a bit, and chit-chat about David Cook, or about anything! New/lurking? Drop by and introduce yourself! The thread is pinned on the main discussion forum, but only for about 24 hrs starting around midday ET on Fridays, after which it is moved to Off Topic (where other off-topic discussion should continue to take place). The thread's name was voted the favorite by the DCO community in a contest that ended 23-Jan-09 and was created by agilepups, and our new awesome signage was created by the equally awesome and talented msdarcy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE RULES
• Everyone is welcome!
• Anything is on topic! (unless, of course, prohibited by DCO rules)
• Be nice to one another!(*)
(*) Patrons, "we’re about love" here so, please don’t pick fights by being combative or overly quick to take offense. If you’re not participating with the spirit of a happy hour, you may be asked to simply move on from this thread establishment for the day by the host/hostess or by a site moderator.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now, without further ado, and because we’re all thirsty ... I'm sorry *lol* you're all stuck with me as a host again this week so, I'll try to do my best ...
And speaking of Life on the Moon *it plays in the background* what a trip it must be for Dave to see something like THIS, in addition to everything else going on! And speaking of everything else going on ... in the "Did you know?" department, I thought I'd asked ladymadonna to give us all a quick recap of this past week in terms of sales, etc. So, did you know ...
- DCTR logged its 11th consecutive week in the top 20 of the Billboard 200 album chart and has now sold a total of 936,325 copies
- Light On reached #20 to become Dave's first top 20 hit on the Mainstream Top 40 chart, hit #5 on the Adult Top 40 (HAC) chart (making the single his first top 5 hit on that format), spent its 17th week on the Billboard Hot 100, and has now sold a total of 676,581 copies
- The Time of My Life has sold 1.01 million copies in only 37 weeks, making it the best-selling coronation song in American Idol history, and logged its 29th consecutive week in the top 5 of the Adult Contemporary charts (15 of those weeks were spent at #1 – only five other songs by solo males have spent 15 weeks or more at the summit)
OK, it's time to find yourselves a comfy chair or pull up a bar stool and toss Dublin a treat. It's going to be self-serve today, unless a few of you want to jump in and take turns behind the bar.
This week's ice breakers (pick one, pick none, pick all ... it's optional, of course):
- What was the first album you bought with your own money?
- If you could hear ONE track off of Dave's unreleased 2007 album, what would it be (and, if you want to elaborate, why)? The tracks from which to choose, as last reported in Dave's old MySpace blogs, are as follows: A Daily AntheM | Chandeliers | The Downfall | Debutante | Elizabeth | Better Never than Late | We're Only Honest When We're Sleeping | Eta Carinae | A Dirty Shame | Precious Decline
- As many of you know, Kyle 'Peek-a-Boo' Peek celebrated his 21st birthday this past week … how did you or how would you like to spend your 21st birthday?
- What color(s) are you wearing today? Are you wearing any red by any chance?
- If the Declaration Tour bus leaves Mansfield, PA at 12 midnight heading for Atlantic City, NJ, 290 miles away, when will it arrive? ; - P
ETA: I'm totally cracking up at how many of you answered this question seriously! *lolol* - Ketchup or mustard?

Comments (274)
Hi I didn't answer the first album question last night. I joined one of those record clubs and bought Journey, Billy Joel, and um Air Supply, ugh! I can't remember the others.
The reason I posted this today was that I was thinking about Billy Joel's song "Honesty" and it starts out: Don't need clever conversation...but you know what? I do! This is what makes a lot of DCO so awesome. David Cook has drawn in a lot of fans who love clever conversation and I think this speaks so highly of the him!
I just have one more suggestion for the slogan line: Dublin's Bark O' Lounge, where everyone (virtually) knows your name.
Everyone have a great week!!!
Ahhh, to be Dublin. Wonder where he sleeps? What a precious and lucky creature.
Gonna answer these questions:
1. First album bought with my money: Something Billy Joel
2. Wanna hear Elizabeth - any female name means something
3. 21st bday - had a great keg party going when roommate burned her finger on a hot pan - ended up in the ER - great night, lol
4. Wearing grey. Oops.
5. Skipping answer as I am in NC.
6. Mustard - ick!
Wait wait wait...I am *not* with FoolsApril on this one. Leaving out Neal?? No way! It's gotta be Cook/Tiemann....
And even Cook/Tiemann/Skib would be awesome...although Andy's style seems to be different from David and Neal's, so I'm not entirely sure how that would work....

I'm w/y FA64~ next album 100% DC FTW!!! Yea!!

Siggy by Alyycook!
Mornin' all ... getting close to closing time ...
*chimes in with 2-cents about "next album"* Although I'm certainly not opposed to any of the possible collaborations mentioned taking place sometime in the future, were I to have my wish, the next album would be music and lyrics 100% by David Cook.
*starts tidying up for the move to off topic*

Nice you like it, it`s one of my favorites! The video is their official professional video of that song, like David`s LO video!

Dublin's Bark O'Lounge...where everybody knows your (screen) name
I love this expansion of cricketbetsy's slogan suggestion.
MsDarcy please take note.
ETA: Awesome video LadyBirdSF they are very talented. Was the video made by a band member or a fan?
Hi again! It`s 11.40pm in my side of the globe! It took me two hours to read all your posts you were sending here as I was sleeping! Since it`s morning here I`ll take only latte, thanks.
To the discussion of the next album, I totally agree it should be Cook/Tieman work with the other guys of course giving their tribute, Andy seems to be very talented too.
The Bee Gees sons, I`m sure David is capable of doing them all, but the other question is, would he? I`m not sure.
About good music besides of course David`s (IMO there is nothing to compare to him!)
But here is a link to a Finnish group "Poets Of The Fall" who make really beautiful music and awesome videos. They are very known around Europe and have won all kind of prices and sold multi platinum in a few years. (The singer is a graphic designer as David!)

It's I:00 in San diego still not tired.But I feel hungry.. I will take some of that meat.: )

Sorry I'm late to the party, but it took me FOREVER to get the meat trays together. Everybody dig in.
Nothing like being (un)fashionably late. Do we still have the ingredients for a White Russian? What? I watched The Big Lebowski the other night.
*affecting Ewan McGregor accent* Poor Dublin, he's lookin' a wee bit worse for wear, now, is'n'he? Are the lassies plyin' ya with too much drink, laddie?
MsDarcy, stellar job on the signage. Definitely belongs on merch. My possibly lame attempt at slogan: Dublin's Bark O'Lounge...where the rad get stoked!
First albums I ever owned were Beatles and Beach Boys but the 'rents bought those for me (first and last time my 'rents were ever close to the pop culture sweet spot). But the first one I ever bought myself was a mostly instrumental opus by the Sufaris. Anyone remember the great drum solo standard Wipeout? That song and a bunch of other cool surf guitar standards were on it. I was 8 so I have no idea how I knew about it.
I'd give anything to hear the whole lost album. But if I had to choose just one cut, I'd like to hear Eta Carinae, because of the 'ploding.
By the time I finally turned 21, I'd already been drinking in bars for several years because people always assumed I was older than I actually was. A bunch of friends and I went to our usual haunt after work that day and as we got drunker, we got less discreet about the b-day toasts. Then the waitress, whom we knew pretty well from having been in there so many times before, asked to see my ID. Boy, was she unhappy! My defense was that she'd never bothered to card me before but hey, at least I was legal NOW. I was shown the door and we proceeded to many more bars. What I remember of it, it was fun but still somewhat anticlimactic.
I did indeed wear red today because our firm had a fundraiser/jeans day for the heart association. I wore my red Gap t-shirt that says Inspi(red) on the front.
Math is not my friend. Just ask my brother, the Ph.D in finance.
I don't care to pick a side in the Great Condiment Debate of 2009. I like to give all condiments equal opportunities.
ETA: Thought of another slogan: Dublin's Bark O'Lounge...where everybody knows your (screen) name

MsDarcy, I tried and tried to come up with a good slogan for Dublin's Bark O'Lounge, but to no avail....

ETA: Yahoo! Elliott Yamin's got a single coming out in March!
=======================================
I flove Elliott!
Did you see his interview with KISS FM's JoJo? He sings a little of the song at the end. I also saw an interview he did from backstage at the Grammys. I'm so excited for some new Elliott music.
parrogordo: hit F11 twice to get rid of the flag as offensive stamps.
Love the Red Hot audio. Was he really only 18? It would be great to hear him play it now, with the maturity and richness that his voice has achieved. Thanks for posting.
The videos of Di Piazza this week were really endearing. I hope this band stays together for the long haul.

ldynsrch, girl, you kill me! I dont think you really know how much!
Dashers! ppl from david.org! the dash---dashers?????
Can anything be done to move the "flag as offensive" off the time stamp???
Hi all, can't recall posting on this site before! I love the Friday chat concept, so I'll be back again, for sure. I'm sooooo excited because I get to see David at the Eau Claire concert, can't wait. I hate to date myself, but my first album was the Beatles "Love Me Do", (actually a 45) and I was a sophomore in high school...I'd love to hear all the unreleased DC songs you mentioned, and I'd like to add that I love "Red Hot" from Axium (I don't think it was released????)...just to clarify for some: today is "wear red for women" day to promote awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women....DC's bus can't go fast enough for me---Eau Claire concert, yeah!!! pass the ketchup and mustard...
Cathy , yes...the first nine songs on there are all the songs off their first record, "midwest kings."

"If I could have a super power, I'd like the ability to...fly...so I can, you know?...soar...with...the birds."
Sylvanaire, this is what comes up on Lala when I search for Midwest Kings (nothing comes up for MWK, even though they're listed as the artist on most of these tracks). I think the first 9 are actually MWK, but I don't know all of their songs. Andy's voice is so distinctive that I'm sure you'll be able to tell if you listen.
http://www.lala.com/#search/midwest%20kings
This is MWK's MySpace. It has several songs streaming.
http://www.myspace.com/mwkmusic
Personally, I adore David's songwriting, Neal's songwriting, and David and Andy's harmonizing together. The more collaborations we get from them, the better- hopefully there won't be any outside songwriting next time around.

It's easy when it's done being hard. (Therapy/ Axium)
Late to the party again, but wow, this place was hoppin' tonight! I usually avoid fruity drinks unless I'm at the beach (I've had some bad experiences) - but I have to raise a glass of Life on the Moon to the little drummer boy. Cheers!
On the questions...
I didn't buy music until my teens because with three older sibs, most of the good stuff was already in the house on somebody elses' dime. I think the first album I bought was either Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' Damn the Torpedoes or James Taylor's JT. (Incidentally, one of the albums my brother had on constantly was Chicago Transit Authority, and on first hearing of MWK, Neal's playing brought to mind the late great Terry Kath. Anybody familiar? Just me? Okay then.).
Track I'd most like to hear? Debutante. Sounds like it might be a precursor to KOTN, which would be interesting.
My 21st birthday was spent drinking and dancing with friends at a bar called The Library. Does every college town have one of those, so you can tell your Mom you spent the night at the Library and it would be the gawd's honest truth?
Right now I'm wearing black striped flannel PJ pants and a navy blue sweatshirt, because they were on the top of the comfy drawer. When I get home from work I just don't care.
The bus question: Is DC going to make the bus driver hit any truck stops on the way?
Ketchup or mustard: Neither. I don't like condiments of any sort, but I'm with Dave on mustard - yuck, yuck, yuck, just the smell if it makes me ill. I eat my hamburgers plain. One time I made that so clear to the Wendy's dude that he didn't even give me a bun. Or maybe he was just being a smartass - in which case, I kind of love him.
Fri, 02/06/2009 - 18:36 — FolkFan
I'd love to see a truly organic CD, largely cowritten by DC/NT, but also featuring the thoughts and input of the rest of the band. First, I think that would lead to an awesome CD. Second, I think that would increase the odds of the band staying together, which would make me very happy.
Yeah. Exactly what she said. And also what kaydeecee said about Andy and DC vocals. Blending two very different and very distinctive voices makes for some very cool sounds in my ears.
Fri, 02/06/2009 - 20:19 — hoaloha
I also have to admit to a guilty pleasure – an Axium demo made when our boyfriend was 18 called Red Hot (with a Green Light) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FASNVffP87I
DC does the Beach Boys, is how that song always sounds to me. I love it too.
Glad y'all like the new sign! It was FoolsApril's idea, so all credit to her for wanting to make this place as inviting as possible, no? For those who have asked about shirts & stuff, I'll get some things up on my Snark for the Cure shop at Cafe Press (I tack on a few dollars and donate the profits to the ACS). But I think it could use a slogan or something underneath, don't you? Dublin's Bark O'Lounge...where ____________________. Something like that. Any of you clever peeps want to take a stab at it?
Hey - just happened to check in at MJ's - looks like Michael Johns is doing a Bee Gees cover on his new album. *cue Twilight Zone music*

Back from a great dinner and some live jazz. Glad to see the party is still going. Too much wine, now balancing popcorn, securely in lap and a wee single malt scotch! Top of the morning to you Dublin (almost).
I'm really pumped because I was able to get FLOOR Springsteen tickets today (May in Toronto).
first album: Rubber Soul- Beatles
song off unrecorded album: Eta Carinae - something about a star imploding? sounds interesting.
21st birthday : I was already married, and husband took me to a really classy restaurant and gave me 21 $1.00 bills. I forgot them on the table by mistake. This was back in the day, so it was a pretty nice tip on top of what we had left already. Then went home to a surprise party...really great.
If the Declaration Tour bus leaves Mansfield, PA at 12 midnight heading for Atlantic City, NJ, 290 miles away, when will it arrive? ; - P: I'm an accountant...this unanswerable.
Mustard
Also pumped because I have DC tickets for Seneca Niagara.

Ok I've been thinking about that first album question...I believe mine was Hanson's Middle Of Nowhere...I'm a GIANT Hanson fan. I was in the 4th grade and that's what my teacher that year remembers me by, Hanson!

Hi all! I lurked last week, but decided to step up to the bar this week and join the fun. Karen, I'll have one of those Mudslides please! Love frozen drinks, yum. Hey Dubbers, how's Daddy been treatin' you? You just let me know if you feel neglected, and I'll step right in to take care of you, sweetie.
Fabulous graphics, msdarcy, as always!
* What was the first album you bought with your own money? That's hard to say. I was an only child of older parents, so they paid for pretty much everything I wanted for a long time. I guess it was probably Keith Carradine's "I'm Easy", loved that album. I too loved Donny Osmond when I was little, I remember getting Crazy Horses for Christmas and played it to death, lol! My first "hard rock" record. ::rolls eyes::
* If you could hear ONE track off of Dave's unreleased 2007 album, what would it be (and, if you want to elaborate, why)? The tracks from which to choose, as last reported in Dave's old MySpace blogs, are as follows: A Daily AntheM | Chandeliers | The Downfall | Debutante | Elizabeth | Better Never than Late | We're Only Honest When We're Sleeping | Eta Carinae | A Dirty Shame | Precious Decline Well, if I have to choose from this list, I'll go with "Chandeliers", but if I can pick from an earlier list of song titles, I love the sound of "By the Fire Gently Burning".
* As many of you know, Kyle 'Peek-a-Boo' Peek celebrated his 21st birthday this past week … how did you or how would you like to spend your 21st birthday? I was a junior in college, but it was BYU, so no boozin' but I have no memory of the event, so nothing exciting, for sure!
* What color(s) are you wearing today? Are you wearing any red by any chance? No red, didn't know about it. I'm wearing a pink and white top, with black leggings.
* If the Declaration Tour bus leaves Mansfield, PA at 12 midnight heading for Atlantic City, NJ, 290 miles away, when will it arrive? ; - P I failed 2 algebra classes due to word problems when in college, so I'll pass on this one!
* Ketchup or mustard? Definitely Heinz Ketchup. And I put it on my scrambled eggs all the time. I can't eat eggs without something on/in them. If I melt cheese on them, I don't use ketchup, or if it's an omlette, but by themselves, must.have.ketchup! lol. As I've gotten older, I have learned to like dijon mustard on turkey and pastrami sandwiches, but can't stand French's yellow mustard. Vom!
Oh. As far as Neal working with David on the next album. I can't say I'm much of a MWKs fan. I don't know if it is the songs themselves, or Andy's vocals, but I just can't get into them for some reason. (I would be open to being converted though. Is there any place I can listen before I buy?) I do love KotN to pieces though, so I'm thinking a collaboration with David would be just fine, I'm just not sure about Neal's solo songwriting. I'm iffy on the subject, lol! I do like Andy's voice on his THHs stuff, and when he harmonizes/sings back up for David, so I wouldn't mind at all if he is also a part of this next record. I love Kyle's drumming, and think his voice goes great with David's, so I hope he's still around for the next project too. I don't really know enough about Joey, or about bass playing to really have an opinion about him, other than he's cute and seems like a very nice guy who spills Cook Camp secrets and was smart enough to want to audition for Dave's band, so I'll bow to others ideas about him. But the whole idea of Dave being able to keep these guys together for the long haul, is just such a romantic notion, that I would love to see it happen. Even if some of them have side projects from time to time, I'd love to see them come back together for recording the next record and touring. Of course, whatever Dave thinks is best is fine with me.

These Bark O'Lounge evenings seem to me to be just a warm up for an upcoming night in a casino in the far reaches of western NY - and I gotta say, I'm glad I booked a room! Woo!
I'm gonna call it a night, ladies, lots of interesting thoughts and ideas to go to sleep on, or not...
Geez, is the first show of the tour next weekend? We are going to be some busy little word nerds, keeping track of set lists, videos, photos, etc.
Well, until next week, ladies. Last one out, leave the light on for the boys.

Hi again ya'll. Hello puppeh. *Some behind-the-ear scratching (Dublin's!)*
Did I hear malt vinegar on french fries? OH, the best! Especially boardwalk fries and the ones from Five Guys.
Thanks, Shelly, for the heads-up about the Red Hot song - it rocks! I love anything David does where I can tell he's really having fun. I have now bookmarked it - wish I could put it on my Ipod.
I didn't bother with the math question because it is Friday evening and all my brainpower is used up for the day, like a wrung-out sponge. Plus I have no idea where Mansfield, PA is & would have to consult a map.
Did anyone listen to Beth's call-in this afternoon at kcradio.com? I swear David must be a long-lost relative (just kidding!), but between the home-cooking traditions and the red hair floating around the family (my brother & sis got it, but not me), I'm beginning to wonder. My mom used to cook green beans & season them with bacon grease, and they were my favorite veg! She used a pressure cooker, but I steam my green beans because I am afraid of pressure cookers. And the navy beans & cornbread - yup! I would be happy to cook for David or teach him how, but his tummeh would certainly get bigger. Geez, I'm getting punchy - should go to bed. I have to get up early to get a kid off to band rehearsal tomorrow. This Bark O'Lounge is fun to read! TTFN...
