All-DC-All-the-Time Haiku & (other) Poetry
Average: 5 (2 votes)

Edit: Okay. I know there are other threads where poetry is included; but some may like to add a non-haiku here also, now and then. Anyone who wants to write poetry inspired by David Cook is welcome here. Haiku will always hold a special place, but...poetry: it's all good.

So, this is a place to write poetry about and inspired by David Cook.

And for any who would like to know about and continue with Haiku:

"Haiku combines form, content, and language in a meaningful, yet compact form. The most common form for Haiku is three short lines. Haiku poets, which you will soon be, write about everyday things. Many themes include nature, feelings, or experiences. Usually they use simple words and grammar. The first line usually contains five (5) syllables, the second line seven (7) syllables, and the third line contains five (5) syllables. Haiku doesn't rhyme. A Haiku must "paint" a mental image in the reader's mind. This is the challenge of Haiku - to put the poem's meaning and imagery in the reader's mind in ONLY 17 syllables over just three (3) lines of poetry." (from http://volweb.utk.edu)

But here it's not required to write exactly 17 syllables thus, "haiku-like." "Paint" an image of/about David (or his affect on you) for us in general haiku form. They can be serious or funny, or...how you'd like.

To me, if haikus are about nature, feelings and experiences and everyday things, that makes them the perfect form to say something about David Cook.

Finally, to quote from our Minstrel:

"....I think starting a poetry thread here is a good idea, frankly; though it's gotta be all-DC all the time or the webnerds will make you move it."

So, thanks, Minstrel, the All DC ALL the Time Haiku Thread it is.

We need to keep this thread up top for those moments when there isn't that much to discuss.

Fandom is eminently staggered
By a week in which DC's run ragged.
Hit the house with a bat;
MJ's premiere is phat;
It's remarkable DC don't look haggard.

Hi Gingerly, Welcome! And now, please, pm me that limerick!!

p.s. maybe you can post it here with the "inappropriate" words blanked out? You know everyone wants to see it now...

I had the first (and if I may toot my own horn) ultimate limerick on these threads....only it got flagged as is proper with the limerick genre so I dare not repeat it here. I just happen to be convinced that it's the one to beat. I'm only actually good for the irreverant (call me Neal Mom I guess.) If you want poetry, you'll have to ask my daughter who earned a 95% scholarship to college due to her poetry.

Thanks eilon,... (What'd I do, what'd I do??)

Just read over some of the haikus and poems here: so great! Miss 'em...

Now that I've done the serious congrats, I can do the funny one and bump this useful thread (and you're such a sweetie, ohyesyes!):

The rainbow song wins an award,
an event that's not so untoward.
DC's voice gave it grit
and unsaccharined it.
The result hit a powerful chord.

eilonwy, thank you; happened to take a look at the bottom of the PB thread, and there this was, my long-gone thread! Nice surprise. And btw, I've noticed your occasional haikus on other threads and, as always, have enjoyed those... Your limerick is terrific; goes to (one of) the heart(s) of David-truth. David=truth...

Hmmm, you've inspired me now...

Pain, pain, go away
do not come another day
Dave: no-sick zone, hear?
---------
Ottawa: Dave said
"This'll be cool," to hear "Lie
Voice" in tiny room

And it was, it was,
that Voice 5 feet away from
my wide ears and eyes

Ottawa lotta
fun and close-quarters thrills, not
easy to repeat

(So sorry for the
"lotta Ottawa" bad rhyme, just
could not let it get away)

Thanks again, eilon, for the spark: so much fun to write these again..

Time to bring back the haiku thread, as I have nowhere else to put a limerick. (That made sense, I swear it did.)

While reading reviews of Pink,
I'm impressed that she doesn't lip sync.
But all the gymnastic's
A bit too fantastic.
I'm glad DC aims for the stink.

You Captivate Me

I can’t eat and I can’t sleep,
You captivate me.

I dream a dream every night,
You captivate me.

You take me to a place I left behind,
You’ve taken my soul and invaded my mind,
For you my heart is forever blind.

I hear your song that rings so sweet,
You captivate me.

I see your face in the air I breathe,
You captivate me.

You take me to a place I left behind,
You’ve taken my soul and invaded my mind,
For you my heart is forever blind.

I can’t go back now,
I want to be taken,
For every ounce of my soul you have awaken.

You take me to a place I left behind,
You’ve taken my soul and invaded my mind,
For you my heart is forever blind.

YOU

When I was drowning in my sea of tears...
Yours was the hand that rescued me...
When they were the ones that should've cared
Yours were the arms that held me...
When their ears should've listened to my distraught fears
You were the one that heard me
When I stood there bleeding w/my heart on my sleeve
You were the one that saved me

that space in the crowd
is a placeholder for dreams
oblivion seeker

And, now, a new thing. This is a poem I FINALLY wrote. It's in dedication to David Cook in tribute to his older brother Adam. If you distribute, please give me credit:

A Permanent Reminder
by Sarah Dillon

Mother, father, sister, brother,
Aunt, uncle, cousins, friends
At any moment in time can be struck
By an ailment that will devastate one’s bonds
And, when least expected, can take ones life

Thus, a strong sense comes into place

A permanent reminder comes around
To an ordinary human being
Who becomes an eventual hero over time
To those that would know them forever
And may now want to take their place

So, as a reminder, to those heroes, a simple request:

We will think of you long for now
And will be there to hold your hand
So that your struggle is close to us
And will be temporary, rest your head
It’s permanent.

Caffeine poisoning
Making my heartbeat faster
Like when I see Dave.

Cat urine and

They are now.

Since I am bored silly and I have been down the rabbit hole I dedicate this poem to discovery:

I was distracted by Josiah
But his tantrum made him a pariah
Then along came Johns
But his singing produced yawns

In the background was Cook
Weird hair but better than Brooke
He appeared to go with the flow
Until he sang Hello

When he got my attention
And received a mention
With Billie Jean he slayed me
And Little Sparrow was Crazy

After that he was the one
His voice shown like the sun
And when he sang The World I know
He struck the final blow

So he became the Idol
And the wait for the album made me suicidal
The record was all that and more
Especially the final score

Where we all sang along we all sang along

There is a haiku thread(not about David) in the Off Topic folder at the American Idol forum. I don't think they have a haiku thread in the David Cook folder over there.

Hi Kasbot,
I'm curious where else there is a haiku thread? About David? Love to see that if you remember where.

lol, true!
Thanks for the welcome. It's always great to find a haiku thread.
Smiling

Kasbot, at least we know that probably WHATEVER you were blasting would embarrass them, right? And welcome to the thread, by the way, always nice to see a new haikuer.
