Andy just found out about the award! I think it's because he saw our voting tweets popping up in his @replies. He retweeted the link, and now the pic is getting a lot more votes. Yay

Thanks for letting us know about this coolshades
Hey guys...Andy's twitpic from the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is up for an award as "Twitpic of the Year." I doubt it will win, because I *think* it's up against a picture of the plane in the Hudson River...which is a really good pic. *But* doesn't mean we can't vote for it! You can only vote through your twitter account, and you can vote once a day until some time next month. Here's the link:

Just log in to your twitter account, then select the category "Twitpic of the Year," and then choose Andy's name. Then the vote will show up on your twitter timeline (which I don't really like. LOL).

Sorry to post-ho, but in THIS recently posted interview, David says that MWK used to cover Yo Arms with Andy singing lead. I wish some video of that could surface....

The only song Andy has available for purchase besides the EP is "Forever," which you can buy through SnoCap on his Myspace page. The others you can only get by ripping them from the music player or ripping an MP3 from youtube videos.

Thank you! I hadn't seen the vids on THH MySpace page. They are great, and a few songs I haven't heard before, like Take the Blame, Tonight & Forever. I guess Everlong is a Foo Fighters cover, yes? But it's new to me, so to me it's a new THH song, lol. Sacrilege! Does Andy have these songs for sale anywhere? I'd love to have new material from THHs on my iPod. TIA!

sylvanaire, you *used* to be able to get the IDA Red session as a podcast through iTunes. That's how I got it. Although when I went to the IDA Red website to find it, it didn't appear that it was there anymore. You may want to check iTunes, though, and see if it's still in their system. It's the same video you found on YouTube. Not sure if the sound is better or not.
Supposedly that was just part one of a series of videos...but as far as I know, no other parts were ever released.
ETA: Ok I read your post again and realized you already knew it was a podcast first. My reading comprehension skills seriously suck. LOL.

Hey coolshades, as our resident Andy expert, do you know if the videos Dr. Skib had made of Andy singing last year ever made it on You Tube? (Anyone else who knows is welcome to chime in, of course *smiles*) You know the ones that were a podcast on iTunes, Ida Red? or something like that. I've been looking for YTs to d/l but most of Andy's THHs sets are so dark, there's not much point of having a video, lol. I know those videos his Dad did are well lit, but can't seem to find them. I don't remember which songs he did either. Could you help a sister out, lol?! TIA.
ETA: Nevermind, I found them. Are there only two though? I found TSoYL and Reasons both on one YT, along with a short little interview. Are there any other YTs out there with good quality video and audio? Just figured you'd know, fangirl that you are, lol!

Eryn I'm sure Andy appreciated the gift. That was really nice of you to give it to him
I always focus on Andy too. It would be hard not to, really, since I always position myself Skibside at the shows. That's awesome that you were able to get him to communicate with you during the show. That's usually pretty hard to do, because he often doesn't give much eye contact during the show. LOL

Got to go to the Milwaukee show last night and it was fantastic!! And the main reason for that was because of Andy. I was lucky enough to be sitting directly in front of him 5 rows back. At one point during the show I pointed up to him, to which he pointed back at me and mouthed "no you," and then I told him I loved him and he shook his head and smiled his Andy smile. From then on, everyone around knew I was there to see Andy, even he himself knew
It really made the night for me. He is so incredibly talented it's always hard for me to focus on anyone but him. Don't get me wrong, though...all the guys were on fire last night!
At the end of the show, we were able to get him a belated birthday present we found before the show. It was a DVD called "Amos and Andrew" and we thought it was totally appropriate!

Thanks to the people who put the Twitter trend together. At the risk of being overly emotional and being on a soap box at the same time, it literally made me all emotional to see how successful it was.
At least for a few hours a person who deserves the acclaim and attention got it. And if it made even a few people actually check out MWK or THH or DC or anything related...so much the better.
(Yes - I have issues with society's celebration of idiot non-celbrities who are famous for being famous. I won't name names, but you can probably guess...)

Thanks to everyone who participated in the trending party! We broke into the top 10 trending topics in less than an hour, and peaked at #5!!! LOTS of folks on twitter were asking about who Andy was, and some champion multitaskers sent them links to MWK and the THH myspace. So hopefully we not only succeeded in telling Andy how much we love and adore him, but also helped him get some new fans!

sylvanaire, as far as I know, the only MWK song where Andy has any writing credit is Undertow, from Midwest Kings. He co-wrote it with Neal. However, David said at the Rolla concert that he wrote Anodyne with Neal and Andy...which actually contradicts what he told me at TU when he said he wrote a little of the music and Neal wrote the rest. So perhaps Andy did participate here and there on the songwriting for Anodyne and other MWK songs, but not to the extent that he'd be giving writing credit on the liner notes.
I also remember reading the article where Neal said Andy was his muse. I've always remembered it, but don't know which article it came from. But I know he said it. LOL
Major SQUEEEEEEEE for David and Neal writing most of the 2nd record. Hope that really happens!

I gotta tell ya, I really, really, really hope the sophomore album is mainly written by David and Neal. I was bummed when I found out that only KOTN was the only song written by those 2. I think those 2 are lyric genius'!

sylvanaire - I thoroughly enjoyed reading all your comments on the future of the band. They were incredibly insightful and it's almost like you took the thoughts right out of my head. A couple points to touch on: in reference to your question about Daughtry using his band in the studio, the answer is that the band was involved instrumentally on all the songs, but I don't believe they were used for any of the backing vocals on the record. It's funny you brought them up, because as much as I hate the comparisons of Dave to Chris, as far as bands go, I would really like to see The Anthemic take a similar path that Daughtry has. All five members of Daughtry were involved in writing on the record, which I agree with everyone on here is a MUST for The Anthemic's next album. We all know that Neal is an absolute genius when it comes to writing thought-provoking and intense lyrics; couple that with Dave's insanely talented brain, throw in a "muse" and a pretty fly drummer, and you got yourself a match made in songwriting heaven!!
As far as the whole issue of Andy singing lead, I think my opinions have been made pretty clear on this topic, and I'm with each and every one of you 100%. Both Andy and David are outrageously talented musicians and absolutely bring something different to the table vocally. On top of that, they are best friends and I'm sure being able to go through the past year and a half with each other makes up for any of the nay-saying they hear from the fandom. I really doubt Dave takes much validity from those who choose to harp on his best friend. They're gonna do what they want to do, and nothing is stopping them from that!
All in all, I have complete faith that Dave and the guys have an understanding of where they want to take this band in the future, and I have no doubts they'll make it there!
Bring on more Midwest King shows!! XD

I hope those words regarding the sophomore CD are true.
I agree that, though one musician, we have had the chance to be exposed to others and what a gift it is to have that happen. It has happened to me before regarding another musician and I will always be grateful for that. In fact, I was at a CD release party for a band that I met through another musician that I met through another musician, LOL. You get my drift.
It seems like yesterday when Mr. Skib crossed my path, yet it has been over a year. I just can't imagine not having his music in my life. Here's to many more years to come.
Jeannine
Thanks you guys, for reading my "book", lol. I guess I have had these thoughts pent up for a while, but didn't feel I could post them on DWoP, which is where I read most of the time. So when I remembered to check the Off Topic section, and remembered there was a thread for folks who love Andy, it just all came tumbling out, lol.
coolshades, I did get the impression that there was one song he didn't write, but I've only listened to that interview once or twice, so I didn't remember which song it was. Does anyone more familiar with MWKs catalog know if he had a hand in any of those songs? Or was that strictly Neal? I remember reading somewhere that Neal considered Andy's voice his muse, or something like that. I can't remember exactly how he put it, but something along those lines. It really told me a lot about the relationships between these guys, how strong the bond is, and how much they respect each other. I'm so glad that I have been introduced to so many wonderful musicians, because of David.
Yay, for all those signatures, coolshades! I just know the guys are going to make sure Andy's B-day will be memorable, lol. I would be surprised if he got a chance to read the whole card today. It's probably something that he will read a few at a time. Which is good, 'cuz then he can have good wishes all month! Thanks for doing that. I enjoyed having a chance to sign, and to read other peoples best wishes for him. He's a good guy. {{smishes Andy}}
ETA: I was just surfing around different Idol websites, and was reading at the original TWoP DC thread, and a poster named RunningDog mentioned that she met Neal's father at the Dallas concert last night. Perhaps this should go in the Neal Appreciation Thread, but since we were just talking about David/Neal collaborations, I thought I'd put it here. Here's the quote:
RunningDog

I saw David's show last night in Dallas. Lie just gets sweeter and sweeter. The acapella part just kills me dead every time.
I met a holy grail last night...Neal's dad. He was a very gracious, conservative type who is very proud of his son. Neal looks a lot like him and, when asked how Neal became interested in guitar, he said that at age 10 he was playing hide and seek and found his dad's old guitar in a closet and took an immediate interest. He is mostly self taught. I am having a hard time equating Neal and hide and seek. LOL!
One more thing. I really caught myself fangirling about Neal's writing and his dad said the plan was to have most of the sophomore album written by David and Neal. *fingers crossed*
Now, I know we have to take fan reports with a grain of salt, but, Squeeeee!

"If I was in a band competing with Andy, I'd quit." -- Neal Tiemann
Wow, sylvanaire, nice book you wrote there! *wink* I agree with most of what you say. I'm also hoping that Andy and maybe Neal and Kyle will get to do some of the harmonies/backing vocals on the next album. I love David's harmonies too, but like you said, it makes it a bit one dimensional. I love the contrast of David's and Andy's voices together.
I, too, will be relying on the generosity of others for recaps and vids of any MWK/THH gigs.
Hey sylvanaire, great post! I hadn't even thought about how Andy would sound singing songs from DCTR. I doubt he'd ever do it...but it would be interesting if he sang one at a THH show. IMO, he does a great job of choosing songs to cover that are suited to his voice. So if he felt that a DCTR song was a good fit for his voice, then perhaps he'd go for it.
I think you may be on to something when you say that the situation may be different if the guys had made their way in the music business sans Idol. I was ranting about this issue to my father this morning, and compared The Anthemic to the Beatles and U2....wishing The Anthemic could be like they are. My dad immediately pointed out that the Beatles and U2 *started out* as a band, and didn't have one person who became famous on his own and then created a band. David is in a unique situation, in that respect. Most of the time, you'll see a band and *then* a solo artist....like Beyonce starting a solo career after Destiny's Child, or Justin Timberlake starting a solo career after NSYNC. You don't typically see a solo artist and *then* a band. I think David is doing a great job so far of trying to make this a band and not just a solo act...but he can only do so much.
I agree with you that it would be great to see the entire band participate on the recording of the next album. In fact, I've always assumed that would be the case. I expect to hear Andy and Kyle doing backup vocals, and all the guys playing their respective instruments. I don't want any studio musicians. lol. And ideally, I'd love to see all songs written by the band...although I think that we probably shouldn't *expect* that for awhile. The second record will likely be more cowrites with outside artists. And that's OK...for now. LOL
As for Andy saying he wasn't much of a songwriter...I was as surprised by that as you were, especially considering the fact that the liner notes of the THH EP state that he wrote all the songs. I guess he only played a minor role in the songwriting...much like David only played a minor role in the writing of Anodyne. I gathered from the interview that he didn't write *any* of Story of Your Life. He made it sound like he just asked the songwriters if he could use it. Did anyone else get that from the interview? Or was I just interpreting it wrong?

"If I was in a band competing with Andy, I'd quit." -- Neal Tiemann
I'm so glad I'm one of the fans that love ALL the guys in the band. I feel my fan experience is richer, for appreciating all of them in their own way. I can't say I love the other guys as much as David, only because I don't know them as well, you know? But although it took me a while to warm up to Andy's voice, I was thrilled from the very start that Dave was able to bring his friends along on this magic carpet ride of his. The first time Dave gave Andy the lead on a MWK song, I was so happy for them both. For Andy, 'cuz he got to sing for a big new audience, and Dave, for being able to give his dear friend such a chance. I was shocked and appalled at all the haterade that came out of that, on either side of the question. I just see a bunch of very talented guys loving what they do, and wanting to share the experience. I do hope that all the guys can hang in there long enough for the band to grow to the point where Andy can sing more without causing a melt down in the fandom. I would love to see a Beatles-esque situation, where they can share the spotlight. It only makes sense to me to use the talent that they have in that band to it's fullest potential. I sometimes feel there is a left over sense of competition from the Idol days. Folks being protective of Dave, since he was the one who won the contest, not wanting to share the success with Andy. I understand some folks just prefer one voice or the other, but I think they both bring something different to the songs they sing, it doesn't have to be better or worse, just different. I wonder what Andy would sound like on Avalanche, for instance, or Mr. Sensitve. It seems to me, a good song can stand to have different voices interpret it, and still be a good song. I sometimes wonder what it would have been like, if these guys had found success the normal way, and the band configuration had allowed for two lead singers, if some folks would be so territorial. It really hurt my feelings way back last February (like I was in tears over it!), that we couldn't all just be happy for the guys, but now I find it kind of interesting from a sociological stand point. Of course, I think a lot of folks have tempered the way they express their opinion, and that helps me not take it so personally, lol.
Since this does seem like a place we can talk rationally about these guys, I'd just like to muse about a few things. I'm really excited that Neal might co-write a few songs on this upcoming album. I don't have all the MWKs records, some seem a little too hard rock for my tastes, but I love Incoherent, and Luna Despierata (sp?), and of course, I love Kiss on the Neck! To think they wrote that together in, what was it, half an hour? Too cool!
I also like all of Andy's THHs stuff. I was surprised to hear him say in that interview with Andrew, he doesn't feel like song writing is a big part of him, as I feel a very strong sense of him in his solo recordings. Even the ones he didn't write, feel like him, iykwim. I would be interested to hear a song they all (Dave, Neal, Andy and even Kyle) wrote together. As much as I like the songs David wrote with Johnny Reznik, Raine Maida, et al, I would love to see the band get to the point where they write most, if not all, their songs together, and be a "real" band, in that sense. Of course they are a real band now, in that they are so tight together, and really play off each other, but I would like to see them all actually play and use Kyle, Andy, and Neal for back up vocals on the record. Make it like a live recording, in studio. I think that would be coolioso! I love Dave's harmonies too, but using just his voice for lead and backing vocals, the recording lacks some depth, for me. I think both Andy's and Kyle's voices compliment Dave's so well, it would be a shame not to have them sing on the record. Does anyone know if Daughtry's band played and sang on his 2nd album? Just wondering if there is a precedent for this, if that's what Dave decides he wants to do. Because for all my band love, I do want Dave to stay in the driver's seat for the overall vision and direction for the band. Just because I do love his voice, both actual, and metaphorical. I love his lyrics, and his musicality, and would be thrilled if a few songs on the next cd are written solely by him. Perhaps we can have the best of all worlds, with some band collaborations, some co-writes with people like Raine, and some just by David. *smile* (And absolutely NONE that Dave didn't have a hand in writing. Grrr)
It's so exciting to think of it. I remember last year, I thought I would be over the fascination when Idol ended. Then I thought, no, I've got to see him at the Idol concert first, then I can put this silliness away. But all the excitement leading up to the album reveal kept me on tenterhooks, and then the solo tour, lol. Now, even though I think this record has so many more songs that need to be heard (mutter, grumble, @#$%!), I can feel David's excitement for the next phase and am so ready for new (!) music from him. Squeeeeee!
Also, I hope Neal and Andy do set up MWK, and THH gigs for this winter. I wouldn't be able to go, but I will depend on those of you who can for video's and recaps. I think it would be very interesting to see the different band dynamics with Andy as lead, and Joey in the mix if they are actually able to get some MWKs gigs lined up. I think we've only got one MWK video from before Dave went on Idol, is that right? I'd like to see if there is any difference in the performances, after these guys have had a year of intensive touring under their belt. Oh, gosh, it's all so exciting, isn't it? So many possible variations. And if David doesn't use the guys in the studio, that leaves them free to do their own thing until the next tour with him, and they can keep us all entertained until then, and there won't be any down time at all for us between the end of the Declaration Tour, and DCTR2! Hey, aren't I smart. I've got this whole next year all planned out for them. *grin* Wonder if the guys are listening, lol!
--
~You are love, you are life, you are Peace of Mind~
I love being able to come in here and talk freely about this! It's just sad that some people can have such a violent reaction to anyone but David getting the main spotlight, when it's obvious that he loves to share it with his band mates. Every single one of these guys have a intense respect for who they share the stage with, and it's a testament to just how amazing they are to want us to see that as well.
I'm with all you guys in hoping that in the future, it won't be an issue when Andy takes the mic, and everyone will be able to appreciate just how lucky we are to have these guys on stage doing what they love.

pattieann, I noticed a few months ago that the Word Heroes site went poof. Bummer. Maybe someone could start it back up? Any web-savvy folks around here? lol.
I agree with you about the band being like the Beatles. I was thinking about that this morning, actually. I'd love to see a day when the band is seen as ONE ENTITY with five equal parts, rather than one PERSON with four random backing musicians. That's how U2 is. Yes, Bono is clearly the frontman, writes all the lyrics and does about 98% of the lead singing, BUT the other band members have their followings as well, and The Edge does sing once in awhile. No U2 fan would ever be upset with another U2 fan if he/she said that Larry or The Edge or Adam was his/her favorite band member. No one exalts Bono to a level higher than the other band members. At least not among the hardcore U2 fans.
I could say more about this, but I'm in a hurry and have to leave. *hugs* to all the Andy fans!

azdcfan & pattieann & zoo & scott & coolshades, etc etc (LOL)...........
I totally agree & have said the SAME thing for the last year! How truly unique & wondeful if they all can share the mic. History (Beatles, etc etc) has proven that it can be successful & the opportunity needs to be given for all bandmembers to express themselves entirely with all that these guys have to offer. Yes- this year was for David...but let's hope from here on (since everyone has 'proved' themselves to the max!) that this band get's to show the world ALL they have to offer & let's proceed FOREVER !!!
What happened to the Word-Heroes website? Apparently it went poof.
Jeannine *hugs*. It was nice meeting you in Salem.
..."Patience may be the key here - lots of it. MWK Reloaded FTW."
Totally agree with you.
Jeannine
azdcfan There, you've said it.
I remember having conversations with Scott about that. That was way back on The Dash, before DCO was born, and also on an older version of DWOP. This is probably the only place on this website where you can say it now and not have to worry about getting jumped on or accused of being a bad fan or starting a huge argument. I've always thought it would be perfect if they could be like the Beatles or the Eagles, where all the members of the band contribute, and more than one member sings lead for various songs. I suspect that the guys may have originally intended something like that, maybe still do. How much TPTB will allow is the question. Remember the first Pork Beans episode? Joey said that Andy would be singing lead on a couple of songs, then it didn't happen. Also, someone noticed early in the tour that there were MWK Reloaded stickers on some of the equipment cases. I suspect those stickers are gone now.
These guys are all so freaking talented. They have such great synergy together that brings a power and a magic to the stage and to their music. I want to enjoy the fruits of their talent to the utmost. I want more music from all of them.
I'm afraid to say much about it anymore, and just try to promote Andy's and Neal's music whenever I can. Patience may be the key here - lots of it. MWK Reloaded FTW
I'll try to be quiet now. Sh.....
Love the vid ... really miss hearing Andy sing. Hopefully he and David can share the lead more in the future:)

I can't help chiming in to those conversations just to support Andy, but not to argue. It is tempting, though. I love Dave's voice. I love Andy's voice. I want to hear both of them sing. That video of Andy singing Til I'm Blue is just amazing! He looked so happy, too.
I tend to keep my mouth shut, too. Ever since the band first did Make Me in Biloxi, I found myself in the minority on this "issue," and realized very quickly that it was best to not inject my opinion into the debate. At least not here on DCO. I just go vent on other boards or to my friends via IM.
I was kinda sorta secretly hoping that Neal would be in Tulsa in December to do the MWK songs with Andy. But Nick was OK, too. Much better than not hearing the song at all. lol

I forgot about that performance. Of course, you are right. I guess the one in So. Calif. stood out more to me because Neal was performing as well. Love Nick to pieces, but Neal is Neal, you know? And having them both together performing makes everything absolutely perfect for me.
I agree that we are certainly a minority regarding who we prefer singing lead on MWK songs. I'm keeping my mouth shut for the most part. I know what I like and I know that I can talk until I'm blue in the face and people will like what they like. I know that if they tried to change how I feel, it would be futile, so I can't really fault them.
