Des Moines, IA Simon Estes Amphitheater July 16
Anybody going to this show? Anybody know about the venue? It looks like my kind of place (outdoors on grass, under the stars).
I just bought a ticket for it. I'm so much closer to Chicago but I truly hate House of Blues and being crammed in like sardines. So I'll be making a roadtrip! I'm excited.

Thank you Jill. Looks like they still have tickets. Now I just need to convince myself to make the drive. My hubby hates me driving alone but I did to Conway, Kansas City and Little Rock. Any other Oklahomas making the drive?

Looks like there are some questions about this venue. I've been to a show there. In fact, my daughter and I saw Colbie Caillat there last week. So, I can probably answer questions if you still have them.
An overview: the venue is really plenty big -- but it's wider than it is deep. The "stage" is oval and isn't that big. But you can get a good view of it from just about anywhere. There's a severe slope leading down to the stage -- and that helps keep a clear view for most of the audience. You can bring chairs and/or blankets. And you can bring coolers, as long as you don't have alcohol in them (they'll sell you that at the venue).
To face the stage you're looking due east. Unless it's a very overcast day, you're gonna get a face full of sun as the sun sets. It's also going to be hotter than the blazes. Dress to keep cool and bring your bug spray. Another "fun fact" -- no restrooms. But, I'm sure you'll love the porta-potties.
Other questions, PM me.
P.S. My hubby will be in tow also.

is there a link to buy tickets for this?
Bought my ticket and hoping to see some of you there!
Ann
I am hoping to be there!
2.200!? Holy mama, it must have been raining hard! I was thinking in the hundreds! That makes me feel better, thanks for that info Gia. Are you going to the concert? When I lived in Omaha, people from here in Des Moines went to Omaha for all their concerts!

I spoke with someone from the ticket vendor. Gate opens at 7. Capacity is 2200. They would not tell me how many they sold as of last Friday, but it's nowhere near capacity.
Oh wow, I just drove by the place, and if it's contained to the grass, it sure is a small venue. Behind and beside the stage is the river. Pretty set-up but not much room. Heck, the street is just yards away from the stage. It was pouring down rain so I plan to return later and walk the place, ask about where the audience will be allowed to sit/stand. There is room behind the grass to stand or set up chairs if allowed, but it's really just the walkways between the grass/stage and the building. The website said no restrooms unless porta pottys are set up, so I want to ask about that and other things too.
It's just a weird area. It seems that people can stand on the bridge, walk down the sidewalks, sit by the river and hear the concert for free. Oh, concerts have to end by 10:30 per noise ordinance on Thursday.
Looks like the "doors" open at 6:00, I just wish I knew how early we need to be there to get spots right up front. I'm going to find out their capacity and how many tickets they're selling for the show, and how many have been sold so far. So many questions!

I'm going all the way from Boston to Des Moines so I can experience the concert with my best friend from grade school. It's going to be a blast!
Oh, and David Cook's show will probably be good, too. =)
I assume this is a stand-in-line early kind of place, since it's general admission?
I'll be by myself too annred, and would love to meet up with any and all DCOers.

I'm definitely a lurker on DCO but I'm thinking about going to this concert and will be coming up from Kansas on my way to visit family in Iowa. I'll be coming by myself and would love to meet up with like-minded fans (couldn't talk my sister into coming down from Cedar Falls and my husband is also is a no-go....). Anyway, if a group is getting together I would love to meet some fellow DCOers.
Ann
Oh good, more hubbys. So they can all sit together...over there.

Gingerly,
I'm going to this show too and am so excited. Never thought I'd see him live.
Are you going alone? If so, you just can't do that! You need to experience a Cook concert with like minded individuals! I got two tickets for my hubby to maybe come along, but I've been thinking of some way to ditch him and go with someone who "understands" the obsession, uuuuh, I mean the passion, no wait, the...okay I said it!
Really though, we need to meet up somehow if you're there all by yourself. Just not right.
The venue, all I know is it is outdoors. I am definately making a dry run, go there and walk around and check it all out. Parking, best place to sit, bathrooms etc. I will be prepared!
