Hi Everybody!

Although we originated from the David Cook: You Had Me At Hello thread from the Television Without Pity (TWoP) website, we have added many new friends here at DCO. Since we’ve forged a new identity at DCO, it’s time for a new name.

The name has changed but the spirit remains the same. There is not merely one topic on this thread. We discuss everything related to David Cook and the boys in the band. Jump in and contribute to whatever discussion suits you. Even if the conversation has moved on, go ahead and comment. We revisit subjects a lot around here.

Occasionally, other subjects sneak their way in here too. Just go with it.

Our motto is “We snark because we love” so let loose your inner smart ass. Snark is welcome but not required. We still love you whether you’re snarky, funny, sincere, or just plain crazy. Everyone is welcome here.

We say YES to complete sentences, grammar and punctuation. This makes your brilliant contributions easier for us to read.

This thread has been known to move at a very fast pace. Please adhere to these guidelines to keep things moving and flowing:

*Turn off graphic siggies.
*Post links to pictures, and videos rather than embedding them in the thread.
*If you’re responding to a post, copy and paste the relevant parts of that post.
*Try to include the posters name and time of post.

Finally, all opinions are welcome in this thread. Discussing a subject from different sides can be a healthy experience for an online community. When someone disagrees with you or offers an idea you disagree with, try not to take it personally. Stick around, consider the other views presented and, if necessary, stand your ground but respect the other posters and their opinions.

This next bit is just for picklesprite:
These tips make it easier for everyone to keep up with the fast pace. We TWoPers have a lot to say. About everything. Really. We can yammer on and on for pages. No topic is too trivial. No subject is too mundane. You name it, we discuss it. We can parse and dissect meaning out of the ......What? The horse is dead? Fine.

Will he or won't he? I just feel this needs to be here where we can find it whenever we want. Sue me.

It has crossed my mind that RCA may think they don't need to do much here, as just amazing members at DCO. Smart, wittty, tech savvy (well, not maybe not so much me to all of these). But yes...a great place to hang out.

It's nice to see that we have learned how to make Lisa's job a little easier. lol Amishes thread.

Since I haven't had a chance yet, I'm going to go delve into the videos from the last two nights. Hopefully I'll finish in time for the cellcast.

Has he mastered Bacon, yet? Hopefully he won't set the Teal Drapes on fire by accident.

Thanks for the answers to my tech questions today everyone. I'm going to try to spend some quality time with my itunes this weekend. As the tewer winds down, I am feeling a greater and greater need to have more and more live performances to listen to.

I can't help but wonder how Dave is feeling right about now, such a mix of emotions I would think. Looking back over an enormously successful tour, tired but happy, excited and looking forward to getting back into the studio. What a great place he is in right now with so much to look back on and so much to look forward to.

Coco, I just deleted a newly-proposed nickname for AL that I shouldn't have used because it was offensive to DWOPers who are fans of AL.

Cook_Crush, I didn't get here in time to read your unedited post.
But what you've left in your post, I can totally agree with.
David has certainly kept us facsinated for almost two years now.

'cause I've seen love, and I still believe,,,,,,,,,,,, "Still"

Whoo Hoo, so Declaration gets some TV time! I'm ok with that. Great song - shoulda been the first single, yada yada yada... I love that mashup video too!

Cathryn Oh how well I know your i-tunes problem. The post earlier is correct that if you move the location on your hardrive after uploading to i-tunes you will get that message and it can't be played from you computer (or moved into a new playlist). You don't really have to delete it an reload it though. when you get the message saying you have to locate it, just go to the file on your hardrive and open. I think that fixes it, but if that doesn't work I guess re "adding" it would be the fix.

They were promoting an all accoustic here in MA today on the radio, with Kris Allen as part of the line up. It brought back memories of the excitement of those first shows for David and band last December, and getting the recaps back from folks that were lucky enough to go. I'd consider going if it weren't on a Mon night! I'm gonna be in this anniversary mode for little while, because MY big event was the AMAs - first time seeing the band live. One year ago Sunday. more later.

Word Sybil. That is all.

Sorry, Sybil, I didn't mean to offend either. I've edited my post.

Sorry, I didn't mean to cause confusion. Yes, I was referencing Carrie's special and the rebroadcast.

"Spin the finger of blame, it's always on the heart that kept on beating while the other pulled up lame." (™David Cook)

RCA just tweeted this, so I guess that answers the question of which song. I love Declaration, and he hasn't performed it on the talkies that much, but I'm sort of surprised it's not something else.

"Make sure to tune in and see @thedavidcook performing Declaration this Monday morning on Regis & Kelly on ABC!"

Maybe this is his Declaration that the Declaration tour is over, LOL!

Yeah, Bazzie , I believe QTTaquito was referencing Carrie's special in which David will appear being aired twice in Dec....Dec.7th and Dec.22nd, I think.

--
If you want to know the truth, you make or break my day...

THAT is worthy (tm Simon) of being called fascinating.

But it's not controversial or "edgy," apparently.

Sorry SybilT...will drop the new nickname. Don't want to offend anyone. Not blaming AL for any of this. Blaming the media and the people who run it.

As you know, not a big fan of AL...not my style...too OTT. BUT he deserves a fair chance. And don't want to start a fanwar.

Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes. Deleted my previous post.

What SybilT just said.

Bazzie, Fox is going to rerun Carrie's special right before Christmas, so that's the 2nd TV appearance.

I'm perfectly happy to never talk about AL on this thread, but if everyone is going to call AL S**********n, I'm going to have to release ZOMBIE Sybil from her sarcophagus. If you want to hate AL (or as I prefer, He Who Must Not Be Named), fine. I get it. He's polarizing, he's not the sort of performer who is going to have universal appeal.

But blaming him for RCA/19 choices about David is just wrong, IMO. RCA/19s mistakes, such as they are, with David's promotion/singles choices are just misjudgments, not the result of AL-induced ADD.

--
Shirt of white, Pantz so tight, You look happy to meet me.

Only TV appearances that I have heard about are the R&K on Monday Nov 23, and Carries Special on Dec 7 which I believe is going to be rebroadcast later in the month. And then there is the Extreme Makeover Home Edition episode that may be broadcast on Jan 10..no confirmation on that date yet.

I haven't really added my two cents about AL because I don't really have strong feelings about him either way. But, if he's on a "most fascinating people" kind of thing this is just yet another example (Gosselins, Paris Hilton, Balloon Boy's parents, Levi Johnston) of people who are turned into celebrities by the media when they haven't done anything to be worthy of that. I wouldn't put Sparkleclown into the same category as those others. I think he deserves the chance to see what he can do, but he hasn't really done much yet, has he? What's so fascinating? Now, an American Idol winner with extraordinary musical talent, a platinum-selling CD, two platinum singles, who will have done 150+ shows, cares about his family and friends, seems to win over everyone who meets him with his gracious and humble personality, and is involved in charitable causes, THAT is worthy (tm Simon) of being called fascinating.

I've not been one to post criticism of RCA/TPTB. I felt they did pretty well for David w/his rollout and keeping him relatively consistently in the public eye, especially compared to what seems somewhat discombobulated rollouts for others this year. I think David being who he is made their job less complicated - his promo and his tour have truly been "all about the music" with virtually no controversy surrounding him. We know David will be on television in November, twice in December, and once in January. I'm hoping there are more being planned to tide us over through DaveDrought.

I am disappointed regarding DCTR "singles," the ones chosen, and because of those choices, the number released. To me, he was only given a true opportunity of 2 singles from DCTR - LO and CBTM. If they had released Declaration or Heroes and Lie or Avalanche as #1 and #2, perhaps I wouldn't feel so disappointed that more singles aren't being released, because those are David-written songs, and, IMO, better songs, and David deserved that his own music co-writes get that promotion. Perhaps, they would have been so successful that more singles would have been released because the album sales might have been supported better. Or they could have flopped miserably. We don't know what might have happened, but at least success or failure would have ridden on David-written songs as the deciding factor. TOML might have been a wonderful platinum success for (and because of) David, but it really wasn't an album release. It was added to the album only as a bonus song after the fact, though it is nice to say the album had two platinum singles. It's possible some behind the scenes maneuvering was attempted, but BBS was never promoted publicly at all, never made an appearance on TV. I am not well-informed on CJT matters, but I recall reading folks there felt it was released to the wrong rock format, as well, one likely to be unreceptive.

Yes, there was the Charity Permanent "single." On the strength of David's character (I believe), getting all parties to contribute their proceeds, it was a wonderful fundraising effort. But, it was available for download purchase for only one month, and the release itself was botched. Don't know whose fault that was, RCA or strictly iTunes, but those first two days when it remained unavailable cost unknown download sales/donation dollars, which I think is somewhat verified by the spike in Album Permanent sales immediately after the performance Then it was pulled several days earlier than it was supposed to be, just before David's appearance on Larry King to promote it, and wasn't put back for another two days. They extended it a couple of days, but again, the timing of it not being available that night and the next day again had to cost it lost downloads and abc2 donations. We'll never know how well it might have done if it had been handled without snafu. (Of course, there was also the never-made-available video of the performance that David apparently thought was also going be released.) So, IMO again, rollout=good, singles=not so much, website=needs work.

Different topic: I loved GoGladiator's "mini-documentary" of DCTR's first year. He did a wonderful job editing all of those different Declaration videos interspersed with other highlights. I thought it was just beautifully done. They should put that on the home page.

ETA: Sorry, I had to leave my computer in the middle of writing this, so I hope it's not totally OT by now. Also, didn't realize how long it was. Apologies for that, too.

Not the same, I tried to upload the MITB video at the Peoria hotel, but the connection was too slow. Hopefully I'll have better luck in Louisville. I do think many people who were in Peoria are traveling now.

Cathryn, that's interesting. Hmmmm??? I've deleted the super short KOTN file from the Allegan folder, and everything else in there looks like it's a normal size. If anyone is super interested in having the banter before KOTN, I can redo it. But those files have only been downloaded 15-20 times, so it doesn't seem like there was a huge demand.

Hi Jen,
I think it happened with Heroes, Mr. S and souvenir.
Thanks for the link to your files. I, for me for you, liked your post.

Yes, vids are coming in slowly from last night. I love the 'hearthands' pic on the concert thread.
It is so warm and fuzzy.

Happy FriDave everyone! Another concert tonight in the 'race to the finish'!

not the same, I was going to come in and say that I could definitively say we got the avi's sometime between mid-February and mid-June, based on various pages that I have saved here at work (something I do when I get in catch-up mode). But, I see cool_shades already answered more definitively than that, so there ya go. :winky:

Swanny...yes, there were 4 versions of Permanent in my Hammond folder. I've deleted one which was a duplicate, though, and it may get whittled down further as I determine which I like best. I uploaded a couple more late last night to have imogen and QueenJ give their opinions on which they thought sounded better. For anyone who is curious, the remaining three versions there now have been renamed to make them more explicit. The three versions are my original one from guamquilter's video, a "with banter" version from jenneycm's video, and the "merged" is a mix of those two minus the banter. Not really a LOT of mixing, really just a merging of the two audio files to give it a deeper sound (IMO), but I'll probably still play with it a bit before it's finalized...which is why I haven't provided a direct link to those versions yet. Not that I mind people finding them as you did; it's just still a work in progress. So...which did you like better?? ::textual grin::

Cathryn, did you have more than just one Allegan mp3 "shrink down" to 5 seconds? I've come to realize that I had a bad file (KOTN with banter) where I accidentally exported just a small section to mp3 instead of the entire file. D'oh! All the rest still look good in my folder online, though. To answer your main question, they are still online. Here is the folder for all of my concert mp3s that I have uploaded. Any folders labeled with a specific concert are full (or very nearly full) concert sets. Any one-off songs (one or two songs from a specific show) are in the Miscellaneous folder.

Wow, was that a post full of more information than you probably wanted to know or what?

Thank you everyone for your explanations. Now I get it and can imagine that bringing activity from another site could cause some arguments occuring here. It's like a family here and I agree that we don't need to have other posters, who probably aren't even members here, stirring up trouble.

And Coolshades - thanks for the information about the start of the avi's. It was probably the reason I noticed the forum section on the front page.

I'm surprised that there aren't many videos posted from Peoria. Could be that many who went to that concert haven't returned home yet I guess. Patience is a virtue I don't seem to possess... I think I'll go check the tour thread again.

If you want to know the truth, you make or break my day...

What was happening with mj's blog is that posters were projecting disagreements from there onto people here. It's hard to keep track of multiple boards.

all that I am is in the palm of your hand

I believe the site that should not be named is MJ's. Why, I do not know.

Because last year, The Blog that Must Not be Named was being referenced on DWOP all.the.time -- and was the source of much anger, angst, and consternation. People were going blog on blog, etc. There was much fanwarring and anxiety around David and Namesake. It's all rather silly and fun now -- in retrospect. Heh.

Namesake = Archie

Thankfully, a year later, Namesake can now be referenced as Archie.

not the same, I believe the site that should not be named is MJ's. Why, I do not know.

Shirt of white, Pantz so tight, You look happy to meet me.

Have to go run some errands...RL you know.

Feeling sentimental today....Have to say I love this place. So wonderful how we have taken this website and made it a real community. We have our own language, crazy characters in neighborhood (BBS, magic rainbow, Dublin, Zenny, Tommy, Windy, etc), our own artists and songwriter/parody writers, and our own evil villain---Capt. Cha. And all the other wonderful people who populate this place. Love It!

Not the same, we got the avis at the end of April. I remember, because it happened while I was in the middle of my first trip to see the boys. LOL

CYE, glad you got to meet David! Smiling

I have to agree with the reviewer re: the concert antics. Not sure the middle of MITB was the right time for the ball-tossing. It may have been better between songs, or during a more high-energy song like KOTN.

Baby Boomer - I'm not much of a drinker but what a wonderful way to describe David Cook! He certainly is all of those drinks. The 'one who shall not be named' is being promoted more like a sex-on-the-beach with a crazy straw. JMO of course. I actually like his voice and think he's a really nice person but the label is painting a totally different picture of him than they are of David. It's all good...for David, anyway.

Sky - Thanks for the mash-up video...it's really great. I loved the inclusion of the rubber chicken and got a lump in my throat with brother-to-brother at the end. What a wonderful rememberance of DCTR's first anniversary!

If you want to know the truth, you make or break my day...

In case you're interested, the mother of the little guy who David crawled through the crowd to get to last night posted in the Peoria thread. She's a new member. She has some nice things to say (that will not surprise any of you) about being able to take kids to a DC concert.

Sky- I certainly agree with much that you have said regarding singles and promo. I am not sure how much RCA tried to push BBS, but I agree rock radio is too resistent and they do not seem to be the force they once were. To me the biggest mistake was releasing CBTM. If that is the vibe (so to speak) they wanted, then it should have Lie instead as the 2nd single. Ironically, at the concert that I attended at Orillia- everyone really got into CBTM because that's what was on the radio somewhere in Ontario. And I am thinking, good lord people...But, I was happy that had a strong response (also to LO). So, the power of radioplay. I also believe RCA/19 has given DC some very good promo in general. He is about the music not fluff, although his light show (as my hubby says) really enhanced the delivery. He is as we say- straight, no chaser. A fine scotch, neat. Or wonderful cognac sipped in front of a roaring fire

Sky, I'm going to save that mashup vid as my very own pretend version of an officially released Declaration music video, made to promote the imaginary single release of an awesome song.

Also, eyerollers could take notes from that guy.

Cathryn - the ! in itunes means it can no longer find the mp3 file. This happens when you change the location where the file is kept or change the name of the mp3 after you have added it to itunes. Just remove song from the itunes music library and then re-add it.

jen thank you for the mp3s. They're going to help me get through this Thanksgiving preparation week. There are 4 Permanents in your folder. Is the merged one a mix of 2 different videos? You're so good at this!

Janlin: BTW...watching videos from Hammond...have to LOL. David don't need no backup singers...he has fans!!!

You had me LOL with this. My first good laugh today. Thanks!

Off to watch some fun videos before tackling THE LIST

notthe same, I think the pic avi's were added during the last upgrade of the site. I don't remember when that was, maybe 5 or 6 months ago? FoolsApril could tell you, she keeps track of Everything.

Jen, thanks for the MP3's. For some reason several of my allegan mp3's wigged out and only showed up as 5 seconds of recording, I'm not sure why, so have to go try to find the originals again. Did you say you kept them all somewhere? On your blog maybe?
Also on my itunes, I have been having these little ! 's show up and then the song is no longer available, does anyone know why this happens? It says it can't find the source. I uploaded them from my music file, so not sure what is going on. If someone wants to send a pm if this is not a common problem I would appreciate it. You tech types have taught me so much invaluable information this past year, and I really appreciate it.

During one song, a handful of people dressed up as superheroes, along with the banana suit guy and another in a monkey suit, stormed the stage. It was funny when it happened during The Script’s set, but it was kind of annoying when it interrupted the Alice in Chains tribute.

The reviewer of the Peoria show (Thanks Mujerfeliz!) made an interesting comment about the on stage shenanigans, saying the earlier ones were good, but the later one's not so much. It's ok to interrupt some people, but not David Cook! I wonder if he knew DC was probably the Greenman!

And really, HULK undies??? ROFL, he just gets more and more creative. Where does one find these in an adult size?

CYE, ah to be close enough to see the pecs bounce, you lucky thing you.
