The Great Canadian David Thread
So you've heard of The Great Canadian Bagel (it's a bagel store) and the Great Canadian Superstore well how about The Great Canadian David Thread? Never heard of it... well here's your chance! To celebrate the trifecta of concert announcements here's a new thread all about David and Canada.
Welcome to all things David and Canada!! Pull up a Muskoka chair, tuck yourself in with a Hudson's Bay Blanket, and grab a cup of your favourite Tim's, or Second Cup. Help yourself to some Timbits or some Montreal bagels, but don't eat too much.. . there's poutine for snack, and some great West Coast Salmon and East Coast Cod in the oven for later.
David and Canada is more than just tour dates: There is a great connection between David and Canada, springing right from his musical tastes to his Canadian collaborators and mentors. This thread will be a place to capture and explore them all. Right now it's a work in progress and perfection's not guaranteed (hey that would make a great lyric for a song!) so tell me if you've got something to add and we'll make this a great thread for David's fans in Canada and across the globe.
Canadian Musical Influences
So who are these influences and why so many Canadians among them? Well, of course there's Our Lady Peace (OLP) and Raine Maida, but there's also Big Wreck and it's former lead singer Thornley. And there's his softer side enjoying Sarah McLaughlin. We'll look more at these influnces in this section and link some related videos.
Canadian Musicial Collaborators/Mentors
David has been fortunate to get the opportunity to work with some of his own musical heroes, and certainly Raine Maide is top of that list. He's also worked with Raine's wife, Chantal K (I'll check on the spelling and get back to you). Here we'll look at some of these collaborations in more detail and link some videos.
CD Sales
David already acknowledged in
this video interview from the Sunfest Tour thread that he is aware that his record is Gold in Canada....Let's hope it keeps on climbing and that future singles and cd's sell just as well.

I can't believe I just found this thread. This is great. Sorry I missed the celebration of Ottawa and Montreal but at least I'm here for the lead up to Windsor and Orillia.
I saw a bit of banter from the Ottawa show (I think) and David was saying that the drummer from OLP who was filling in for Kyle was trying to sell David his house. Basically, he was trying to get David to move to Canada because he thought he'd fit in here and like it. David asked the audience "But isn't it kinda cold here"? And the whole audience seemed to yell, NO. One guy said it was just like Florida and David repeated that into the mic.
Somehow, we have to make him feel the warmth of the people is worth the cold weather. Perhaps he could get Dublin a summer house in the Haliburtan's or Muskoka? A place where a dog could go for a swim and chew a tree branch instead of an ipod.
Pass the Smarties.
Sorry, the link is still in French, you have to hit the GOOGLE Translate toolbar

Thanks for all the Twitter updates re. the Montreal adventure. I've always loved that city and I hope they enjoy all the good.
I can't wait to hear what they have to say/tweet/banter about their Canada trip as well. Especially what they notice as being different, or weird, or cool. I don't know why I find it so important, but I'm hoping they like it up here.
My patriotism must be showing or something lol

Great Canadian David Thread
With just a kiss on the neck
Hi Baby Boomer
Since at least 4 of the 5 guys have been in Canada (Montreal) since late yesterday, I presume they may already know about our beer...
Can't think of any scenarios that would have them "holed up" in their hotel rooms and not wandering about the streets and in and out of the bars LOL.
It will be interesting to see if there is any banter concerning the beer or any other differences, however, either at Friday's show or the one in Ottawa.
Ok, who is going to introduce these guys to Canadian beer- they so need to have their horizons expanded and also a taste of Tims? I am sure they have found out about poutine by now if they are spending a few days in Montreal. I think they just miss the beginning of hockey season, eh?
Historic day #1: Andy, Neal, and Monty (we assume all three) are in Canada today! Andy is tweeting pictures of Montreal.

andyskib Finally in Canada! I hear Canadians love them some live music...hope I'm right.

This gives them Wed, Thursday, and Friday to hang out before the show! That's a lot of time in Montreal. I'm sure they will enjoy the European feel of the city including the "naughtier' side of Montreal!

Great Canadian David Thread
With just a kiss on the neck
When Dave first mentioned Canadian dates I was thinking he might do some shows with OLP...still a possibility down the road perhaps?
Hello fellow Canadian Cookies! Just thought I`d pop in and say I am so excited that David is finally coming to canada!! I`m going to the Montreal and Ottawa shows and I know they are going to be Epic!
we are going to show David alot of love!!!

Hi CanadaDCFan
I missed the radio show that was hosted by David (last night?) but remember reading about some of his song picks - Scott & a few others on the DWOP thread suggested that he might like the "ballads' more than he would admit and that maybe he's not just a "rocker" after all - paraphrasing quite a bit, but that was how I interpreted the exchange.
These comments reminded me of my favorite rocker before David - our original rocker/balladeer - Bryan
Adams. That man knows how to do both, and knows how to please his audience - else he wouldn't have made it to longetivity.
I'm glad David considers Bryan a mentor and that he listens to his advice - these are all good signs for his path to success.
Just listening to the 104MYFM radio hosting show by David... First song he chooses to play.. Bryan Adams Summer of '69 and he talked about how Bryan Adams has been one of his mentor and gave him some of the best advice he's had over past couple of years... David does love his Canadians!!

With just a kiss on the neck
Bumping this back to 1st page - it may need a few "bumps" before it takes.
I'd like to go on record to say that I'm officially counting "sleeps" until DCATA steps on Canadian soil. By my count, it is another 15 days/nights until his 1ST CANADIAN SHOW. EVER.
This thread is a great idea! I went to Casino Rama yesterday and picked up my tickets for the Orillia show and I'm very pleased with the seats. It was so nice not to have to deal with Ticketbastard and all their additional fees. Orillia is a 90 minute drive from my home. Hubby is coming with me. This will be his 2nd show and my 3rd.
I really hope some west coast shows can be worked out for our peeps out there.
wavelength, we will definitely make sure David feels the love from his Canadian fans too.

Just have to pop my head in here to see if you are serving butter tarts as well as timbits. Something I think David would like very much. I also lurk on DWoP (or what is left of it!), but don't post much, because frankly, they move too fast.
No tickets yet for the Canadian dates. Rama is closest, but I did just find out I will be in Belleville on Oct 3 (just 1+ hour from Ottawa), and that is really, really tempting. Now I just have to admit my obsession to DH, DD and DD's boyfriend. DD just moved to Belleville, and we are moving her and DDB into their new apartment on Oct 3. I don't think they will miss me if I leave to go to Ottawa, do you?
Anyway, great idea for a thread, CanadaDCFan.
Charley
PS. Feeling guilty, since I have 3 shows within driving distance, and no tickets yet, but some are flying from out west to see him. Bad fan! Bad fan! I am still holding out hope for a date at Hamilton Place, which is a great venue. Good enough for the Tragically Hip, so good enough for David!
Love the idea for this thread! Have tickets for Montreal (crazy, I know, I'm flying halfway across the country) and I can't wait! This thread will be a great way for us Canadians to connect on DCO.

"Orange for breakfast. Apple for snack. and for dinner? is beer considered a juice?"
Just wanted to drop in and say hello! Great idea CanadaDCFan
I've been lurking since TWOP days ( I can't believe it either) and not only have I not managed to pry myself away but I just signed up for Twitter and am currently compiling a list of questions to have at the ready for the next Q&A party. I'm from Alberta and was considering flying east for one of the shows but of course I am working each of those dates. So hoping that he will come a little further west. By the way, beautiful avi J9.
This thread is a great idea... thanks for setting it up. Hopefully, we can keep it alive and entertaining in the DWOP fashion (tall order, but we're up to it fellow Canucks).
By this time on Friday, I will probably have tickets for the three Canadian dates that have been confirmed so far. It might just be the moment to admit I have a healthy? obsession for this man.
That's it for now - RL calling - meeting at work.
Later
I'm happy for all of you peeps up north, those flying in from the UK and South Africa, and those jumping across the border from the south, but alas that won't be me. I've made my (financial) allotment of concerts and now must be a responsible adult and watch from the sidelines via trusty old You-tube. Have a great time, yell, scream, and make our boy feel welcome.

42 ≡ 6 (mod 6) "Wavelength"... Drop to your knees and remember where you came from this is the time to abandon hesitation.
Now, this is a great idea. Yes, that has been one of things I find most interesting about David- his love of OLP etc. Hoping we give him a warm welcome to the True North, Strong and Free. I also like the idea of this thread as we can use all of these Canadian references that our friends south of the border really don't get, eh?
Thanks for being the first poster J9... sending some virtual timbits your way to celebrate!
Don't forget there is a tour thread for Canada and there will be separate threads for each concert so check there for concert details. The three annonced dates are already linked above.
-With just a kiss on the neck
Wonderful idea CanadaDCfan!
I am a consistent lurker on DWOP but I will certainly make a better effort to chat on this thread. Out here on the west coast, we need to do what we can to get a concert or two! I have no doubt that Central Canada will represent the Canadian hospitality well.
Cheers!
