JUN-20-09 (Sat) RED WHITE AND BOOM (Bonner Springs, KS) -- twitter rpts, live blogging, recaps, photos, vids, reviews, etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WILL BE POSTED IN THE FIRST PINNED REPLY TO THIS THREAD
Hey everyone! I thought I'd create a discussion thread for each stop of the Declaration Tour in an effort to keep the boards organized and help everyone more easily find info related to each event (and have a record of everything in one place for anyone wanting to look back on these events sometime in future). The following is how these threads will work (subject to change):
>> Thread pinned to the top of or on the main David Cook Discussion forum for 24-48 hrs
>> Thread moved and pinned to the top of or on the main Tour Talk forum for 24-48 hrs
>> Thread moved to its respective regional Tour Talk forum
If, for some reason, a thread isn't moved right away, it will be eventually.
What should be posted here? Related local radio/tv/press, on-site reports/photos, live blogging, recaps, media and fan reviews, links to related blogs, event photos/videos, etc., etc.
Please post links to photos instead of embedding them and please disable graphic footers as this will make the thread easier to read (especially when live blogging). Regarding PRE-SHOW sound check and set list spoilers, please either PM me the info so that I may post it as hidden text in the first pinned reply or, alternatively, if I am not hosting or not here for whatever reason, then please post the spoilers to a blog and link that blog back to this thread in your reply.
As always, I welcome comments/questions, as well as info, via PM. Thank you. ~Lisa
Just would like to post the new link of this concert's MP3 list.
Here's a great video of ADaM, complete with Dave going off of the stage and down to the fans in the front row. It also shows the crowd and their arms swaying...it's quite a view. This poster also has more videos from that night.
RW&B was AWESOME - DAVID COOK W/EEB WAS STELLAR - GUYS ARE BACK & IN RARE FORM!!
It was so appropriate to start with KOTN (with the previous bands performances) and of course the rest of the set was UN-FRIGGIN-BELIEVABLE!! Banter was just hilarious - especially the booty shorts. That's what I'm waiting for-HA!!!
I'm late in reporting about the show because we went to Wichita right afterwards. I got there right at 2 PM and secured a spot Skibside (of course) right behind Angie. Stood there for nine straight hours with nothing to lean on, and I hadn't eaten anything all day. Hadn't had anything to drink, either. I honestly don't know how I survived the day. It was nine hours total, which is the length of a freakin' workday. Hard to believe I stood there that long. Got drenched by two straight hours of rain during the first three acts, and as others have said, we were literally wet from head to toe. And the front area had a bit of a drainage problem, so we were all standing in a puddle of water. Felt like I was spending the day at the waterpark.
The other acts were OK. They did a few cool covers, and I knew a few of their songs, but mostly it was just something to keep me occupied while I waited for David and the EEB. The time between sets was the worst part, because all we were doing was standing there waiting, and it gave us time to think about how much our feet hurt, how hungry we were, or how stupid we were to be standing there in the rain for all those hours just to see a one-hour show. LOL. Several times I thought to myself: the human body wasn't meant for this.
I'm never going to forget after Blue October's set ended, they cleared out all their stuff and then started setting up for David. I had never been so happy to see that red keyboard in my ENTIRE LIFE. I was like: THANK YOU JESUS!! FINALLY!! And then last night in Wichita when they set up the keyboard, I thought of Red White and Boom. That's probably going to happen to me now at every show I go to.
So yeah, show was awesome, the new cover was AMAZING. I loved that they started with KOTN and did TWIK mid-set instead of at the beginning like they usually do. This was the first time I got ADAM at a show, and that was great too.
I'll have a more extensive recap later, probably.
Due to the completely immense experience of yesterday, I was wiped last night so I didn't come home & get right to the computer. And today being Father's Day, I had other things to attend to. But now I have some time so here's my recap, FWIW.
My friend, Jeff, & I got there before the parking lot opened so once it did, we got in the lot and up to the gate quickly. Then we waited and waited and waited til the gates opened. It started sprinkling while we were in line but it wasn't that bothersome...at first. Once we got into the amphitheatre, we were able to snag seats in the front row of the GA seats. SWEET! We were over on the Skib side of the stage, where we got lots of sightings of Dave & the EEB just hangin' all afternoon, watching the other bands and socializing. I got a picture of Dave and one of Beth & Andrew. I actually got several of Andrew. He was so cute, just talking to everyone around and getting into the music.
So, it rained...and then it kept raining...and then it poured rain...until I was sure I'd never be dry again. You know how you don't ever want to have to go to the bathroom at the swimming pool because it's such a pain to peal your suit off? Well, I wished I'd worn my swimsuit yesterday. My clothes were stuck to me in the most uncomfortable way. But everyone else was in the same boat (bad joke). It was one gigantic wet t-shirt contest! So why not just enjoy the experience (tm someone named Dave)?
Most of the bands were pretty good and game for the performance, despite the conditions. The Mix93 DJs came out between all the bands and would use any excuse to mention David's name, which got a huge cheer from the crowd every time. The told us that they interviewed Dave for their morning show that will air tomorrow (Monday) morning (whoever can catch it, recording alert!). They also said they saw Dave and Justin (lead singer for Blue October) backstage exchanging phone numbers, and that Dave told Justin "they better f***ing bring it!", which got a big rise out of the crowd. IMO, Justin & band met the challenge.
But then Dave, Andy, Joey, Kyle & NFT upped the ante. You've all seen the videos by now. DWEEB was on FIIIIIRE last night! I agree with chartwell. Their set was all energy. And somehow, it seemed exponentially more hard rockin' than their show here in April. Maybe spurred on by the quality of Blue October's set, Dave laid it ALL out on the stage. Which I think is why his voice seemed to be a bit strained during LO and seemed to further lose it during ADAM. Don't get me wrong, he still sounded on point, note-wise. But he quit singing the chorus as high as it usually is, subbing in lower notes, and stopped singing completely during the whoa whoas at the end, which meant the crowd didn't really know what to sing after the band stopped (apparently not everyone everywhere has that song memorized like we do). But the arm waving was very enthusiastic and he jumped off the stage for the big finish. I'm not criticizing. If he needed to shift some notes to save his voice, more power to him for being able to make the adjustment in the melody. But I am starting to worry for his "instrument." I guess I have to trust that he has a way to deal.
I also gotta wonder why he feels it necessary to dress up for the shows here in KC. Most of his shows are t-shirts for wardrobe. Here, in April and again yesterday, it was rolled up sleeves long-sleeved shirt, vest & tie for his stage outfit. Is it because Mom is there? Heck, even she was in a sleeveless top and flip flops yesterday, fer cryin' out loud. Not that he doesn't look mumblety kinds of delicious dressed up. But sheesh! And who wouldn't have paid good money to see the tank top/booty shorts combo? That banter was priceless, btw.
Some other random recollections:
It makes me tres happy to know that the picture of the crowd Dave took from the stage is of 15,000+ fans screaming their collective heads off for him. I bet it'll make an unbelievably beautiful addition to his new home. (And it made me wonder yet again what's become of all that HD video footage from the gratitewer?)
When Jeff & I spotted Dave on the side stage area, Jeff jokingly said I should go tell the security guy that I'm friends with his mother so I could get backstage. I've met Beth a couple times in the building where we both work but we hardly qualify as friends. So, no.
I think it's funny that he always mentions ex-girlfriends during his shows here. And he always sounds just a little wistful when he does it.
Watching Dave bop around on the side of the stage to the other bands, enjoying the music, was very endearing. And I was really sad that it was raining so hard when I looked over to catch him doing some stretching exercises. I thought my camera would drown if I got it out just then so I didn't get that on video. Le sigh.
Absolutely, positively and without equivocation FLOOOOOVE the way they rocked up IJDIYAT! Dave started that and I thought, what the...is this...OH. MY. GAWD. It was the hotness of 1000 burning suns, IMHO. I'd give anything to know whose idea these particular covers are.
Oh...and Dave invented a new word. He was introducing Lie and talking about how sometimes people stay in relationships that are "a little ass backwards" for "comfterbility's sake". He stumbled getting out "comfterbility" (sic, probably, but that's how it sounded to me) but then was so proud, saying he'd made up a new word at Red White & Boom 14! It was adorkable.
And Jeff decided we hadn't attended Red White & Boom, so much as we'd attended Red Wet & Boom. (Thank you, ladies & gentlemen, he'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitstaff. Try the fish.)
Whew! I think that's it. I didn't mean to make this the post that would never end. But I haven't been to an all day, multi-band show like that in forevah. Words can't adequately convey the feelings. Although I sure used enough of 'em trying, didn't I?
ETA: Terry did a nice job here, don't ya think?
so i was at this concert and it was pretty much amazing. like no joke. he started off with kiss on the neck, i mean how could it not be a good show. then it just got better and better like from his banter to the setlist. there was some things i have yet to hear at a concert like souvenir or like A Daily AntheM which i havent heard in a while. it was nice. i got video of them both and at the end of A Daily AntheM he jumped off the stage and then was still trying to get everyone to do the oh whoas. but it was kinda hard cause everyone like swarmed him. then he threw his hat into the audience it was coming right for me and then landed just short of me. i almost had it. i almost had david cooks gray fedora. it was amazing. plus he looked helllllla hott. wearing his black vest and blue tie. : ) and it was cool cause neal pretty much matched him, but a white tie. it was an overall amazing concert. oh and especially the banter about him knowing if it was that hott he would have worn a tank top and booty shorts. ow ow. : )
AMAZZZING CONCERT.
Ok, here's my photobucket with concert pics. Red, White & Boom The rest of the pics I took I haven't had a chance to resize and color correct yet (mostly Dave being a fan and watching the other bands perform).
I still have the last 3 songs, plus the "I'm a home owner..." banter to post to Youtube. Hopefully, tonight.
THANKS to all the videographers (and Patti for the finds!) for sharing this AMAZING show with us!! The clothing, the stage presence of David and the band, the lighting, the energy, the MUSIC -- exciting to see the first-rate STAR QUALITY of the whole event. From the energy-building intro leading into Kiss on the Neck to the thousands of arms waving during the ADAM finale, great videos!
