One more reason to continue to support this talented artist.

Like all of you, I am and have been an avid David Cook fan. Here is just one more reason to continue to support this talented artist.

My husband is a domestic violence counselor, who is trying to get "nice guys" to help prevent violence against women and children. He cofounded an organization called Stand Up Guys. They are enlisting "well intended men" to sign the Stand Up Guy pledge. They have gotten signatures from several state and local politicians, schools and colleges, some well known sports figures and a few thousand other men. I told him I felt David was a Stand Up Guy, basically because of the way I have seen him interact with women and children, and his lyrics are not demeaning to women (as many contemporary songs are). I suggested we meet David and ask him to sign the pledge. Last Saturday at Northern Lights we had the opportunity to go to the meet and greet. I explained to David about the purpose of Stand Up Guys, and my husband asked him and the rest of the band if they would sign the pledge. They each read and signed it without hesitation. They are the first contempory music artists to sign it. Thank you Kyle, Andy, Devin, Monty and David, you are all Stand Up Guys.
Stand Up Guy Pledge
- I pledge to treat all women in my life with dignity, respect & equality
- I pledge to take the time to listen to the women in my life and acknowledge that their perspective is valuable and is equally important as mine.
- I pledge to have the courage to speak out about sexist values, attitudes and beliefs that perpetuate violence against women.
- I pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women, sexual assault or domestic violence.
- I pledge to learn, practice and teach non-violent methods to resolve conflict.

This is wonderful, and I'm not surprised either that they all signed it. They are all definitely stand-up guys imo. I wish you and your husband well with getting more celebrities to sign it as well.

Such a simple gesture on all their parts and so very thoughtful. We need more men in this world like them all, and MamaG, that includes your husband.

Glad you got to go to the M&G and spend a few minutes with David & the guys. Not surprised that they signed this. I'm sure they all did without hesitation. Don't know why one of them wouldn't for they treat the women in there lives with the utmost respect. As I'm sure most other artist would sign it as well if they are approached to do so.

Happy that you got David and all the guys to sign that pledge. This is awesome. But, honestly, I am not surprised at all. David is that kind of guy.

mamaG. Thank you and thank your husband too for starting this organization! Wow, you must be so proud. Wonderful that they all signed and it isn't surprising to me either that they wouldn't hesitate. Such good people. Thanks for sharing this.

P.s. Love your avatar; love Janis J!

That is so very amazing but i also agree its not surprising... He is seriously the most humble, sincere and sweet artist out there today. He is also the most real. I feel so happy to call myself a David Cook fan and even happier for your husbands organization to have Davids name included.

Does not surprise me in the slightest. He (and the band) really ARE stand-up guys. Which is probably one reason WHY they're having a harder time breaking through to the VERY top (where they belong) in this pro-tooled, auto-tuned, nasty-acting and nasty-sounding music business today (and I use the word "music" hesitantly). Someone once mentioned (can't remember where I saw it) that David should put an album out called "F - - K you" or something like that - and/or be involved in some scandal. Then maybe he'd get more attention. I don't think so. He wouldn't want it that way, and neither would his devoted fandom. We like him just the way he is: REAL, SWEET, GROUNDED, HUMBLE and NICE. Stay that way, David. NEVER change. One day you will make some lucky lady VERY happy! Nice post, by the way.
