Rob Cavallo Interview

Rob Cavallo Interview

That was the most unpretentious informative interview I've seen in a long time!
That it is from someone in the music business is even more surprising.
Very interesting and I can't image a more perfect person to produce Cook's music.

Wow! Great interview with Rob Cavallo! I've never seen him before or heard him speak before. He's very impressive and must be impressed with the fire he sees in David Cook! That's exciting!

You're welcome, Kellie.

I was so stoked after watching that interview. The man is full of brilliance....and you picked my favorite lines from the interview.

So we have a maybe future producer among us? It's cool that you saw something of yourself in that clip. Very cool.

A spark lit? What can we do to help fan that flame? Dare you to move?

After listening to Rob Cavallo's interview it sounds like he is talking about David. I mean, "emotional content is what sells a record" I don't know another artist that is as passionate and emotional about his music then David! It sounds like everything he was advising new artist to do is what david has done for the past 10 years. I think it is a great "marriage" that will last a long time.

I know the album will be amazing and have longevity to it! Franwessel

I love music, but it has to be something that grabs me. I have said it before, David has that something that grabbed me. For him to be working with Rob, even more so after seeing this, is amazing. This is a man who knows what he is talking about and is so passionate about MUSIC.

I have to add, for me to sit and watch this whole interview amazed me, but Rob has something that grabbed me too. Putting David with Rob is going to go beyond transcending....

Thank you so much for posting this interview!

The "uncomfortable" thing....haven't some people who knew David back in the pre-idol days say he was off putting at first until you got to know him. Could it be that his passion and desire to make music and being a little different gave people that "uncomfortable" feeling which they interpreted as being off-putting. One thing I am certain of is that David is not a carbon copy of any artist out there and does have his own sound, a good voice, desire to push the envelope and all those things that can translate into great music.

Having Rob Cavallo on board makes me have confidence in the record. I know he is going to make it the best record that David is capable of making at this point in time (meaning leaving room for future growth). I'm excited to hear RC's philosophy of picking artists, because he was the one to offer to produce the record and as DC said, it was a huge complement. I'm sure RC did his homework and listened to David's work on Axium, MWK and Analog Heart. He knows that David has a passion for music and does not want to just mimic other artists (the whole AI thing notwithstanding). I wish I could have heard some of their conversations.

Smiling After having heard that interview, I am more convinced than I already am, that David is in good hands under Rob Cavallo.

Smiling True, David cares not about the profits or sales generated from his record - he only cares that the record he churns out is something that not only he can be proud of, but only something we fans can be proud of.

I think I can also insert in the terms "passion" and "drive" somewhere in this post.

I wonder if Cavallo knew about David from his Axium days?

I wonder if Cavallo would say he felt "slightly uncomfortable". Hee. (Y'all know what I mean if you watched the whole interview.)

Rob Cavallo is so refreshingly brilliant its not even funny. My favorite band is Green day so i know all too well the influence he has and what magic he can help make. When i heard he was working with David, i wanted to cry with excitement because right there i knew this album was going to be everything it should be. i have absolutely no worries for David what so ever...only eagerness to get the show on the road!

I am so stoked for this album. Rob Cavallo is an amazing producer and I also believe that his involvement will give David more rock cred with radio stations across north america, thus increasing his chances of becomeing an international household name. And the fact that he wants to work towards the artist's goal is encouraging to me... we are going to hear David on this album and someone else's version of what David should sound like.

Cavallo producing is what makes me sleep well at night. The guy knows what he's doing.
He's passionate about his job, just like DC is, and that's so imprtant. I love the work he's done with greenday . MCR's BP is awesome too.

ICW! (cause we really need to initial the most popular phrase here).

I LOVE this interview, he's so intelligent.

On the artists that he signs/whose record he produces: "I try to make them sing stuff that they never thought they could sing about."

As if I weren't so freaking excited already. *sigh*

I've seen this enlightening interview before. Thanks for posting it here so others who haven't seen it may get a chance to view it. I think David and Rob Cavello make a great team. Bet they have a lot in common musically.

I really dug what he said about how important it is that an artist begin working on a record with some sort of goal in mind. David has said on a number of occasions that he simply wanted to make a "David Cook album". I think that such a genuine goal as that speaks volumes about David's character. It seems as if it's more important to David that he makes an album that he is proud of rather than just banging something out in order to generate profits. His integrity is what will make him successful and why he will deserve every bit of the rewards that come from it.

I cannot wait for this album.

I would love to hear what his first impression was of David.

He's also working with Dave Matthews Band, which is one of my fav bands. This man is The Man!

I watched that while back. Rob is awesome.
When I found out he was working with David I was ecstatic!
He's worked with some of my favourite bands like Green Day, My Chemical Romance and the Goo Goo Dolls. DC's in good hands and his record is going to be amazing, I know it.

Confessions of a middle-aged, adolescent groupie.

Thank you for posting this! I don't really follow the music business so all I knew about Cavallo was the few things I picked up from reading other posts about him working with David on the album.

This in-depth interview (more like a monologue, I guess) was very engrossing. I'm really glad he's working with David!

"I try to make them sing about stuff that they've never thought they could sing about.

The emotional content of a record is actually what sells the record. It's what makes it unique. I want the greatness of that particular artist to come out.

On Due Diligence
Signing a band is almost like getting married. You have to know why you love them, and why you think they're the ones that are going to make it, and why you have the passion to tie them to you, and put your name on that. And the only way I think you can do that is if you've done due diligence, and scouting. Knowing everything."

Thank you, SursumCorda. I really liked the above.

What an occupation that would be - one that elicits such personal interest, dedication, and passion.
I'm suddenly (no, not suddenly) feeling the need for a career change.

Rob Cavello seems to be very deep and I think that David is in very good hands. It speaks highly that he saw something in David that would grab his attention, at least that is the impression I got at the end when he spoke to the kind of artists he works with.

It is hard to wait so long for DC's record to come out. We are going to get lots of snipets like this to keep our interest flowing. Interesting....

Sandy
