VH1 Top 20 Voting Thread
It's almost time for video #2 from This Loud Morning.
VOTING ALERT: VH1 made major changes to their voting system, and we are now limited to 20 votes daily, and you must vote using facebook or twitter. See the next paragraph for new TIPS & TRICKS.
>> If you clear your cache, cookies, and browser history after every 20 votes, then refresh your voting screen, you can vote again, and again, and again.
>> Another thing you can do is set up a new twitter or facebook account just for voting. Several people have already done this, and only follow DC and TA on these accounts.
>> If you choose to use your current accounts, there is a box at the bottom of the screen that you can unclick so you don't spam your followers with messages that you just voted.
Thank you pweller, for all the hard work you did on this thread for Light On and Come Back To Me. Beginning March 26th, 2011 she handed it over to me.
This thread is all about getting and keeping David Cook videos in the Top 20 on VH1 as long as possible. One would think that simply voting like crazy would keep a video in the Countdown, but that isn't necessarily true. I still don't know everything involved, but I do know that the following things have an impact on video placement.
Radio play and billboard placement - I know it is strange that radio play could have an impact on a video, but evidently it does. Request at your local stations, but don't overdo it.
Comments on the video itself - It is important that the video gets as many positive comments as possible. When watching a video on VH1, you have the ability to comment on the video itself. Just scroll down below the video.
Comments on the artist's community at VH1 - Not to be confused with commenting on the video itself, the amount of comments on the artist's community tells them how popular that artist is at VH1. You can make a general comment, make a comment on one of the existing threads, or start a new thread. You also can post your own videos and pictures on the main Community page for David Cook. Links will follow.
Comments on the VH1 community board and the Top 20 community board - When you make a comment on one of these boards it is importand to use David's full name, even if you mention the video title.
Search for David Cook, and the video title - Do a search in the search box for David Cook and then do a search for the video title.
Streaming of the video - Stream the video as much as possible on VH1.
Vote like crazy! - If you need help with the tips I gave you up top, PM me and I will help if I can.

I have added the following post brought over from DWoP, posted by Scott to reinforce just how important it is for us, as fans, to be visible on VH1 starting immediately. Please, go to VH1 and comment, tweet about it to all of your followers. We need to get David's traffic on VH1 way up.

I posted this on CJT, but it merits mentioning here too. Starting Monday, when the TLG music video is out, our immediate mission, or goal, as fans, should be to get it to debut high (or move up quickly) on Vh1 Top 20 Countdown.

I distinctly recall two years ago, when Rob Thomas' "Her Diamonds" video entered Countown, the host commenting that the traffic on RT's Vh1 forum page was enormous. He pretty much said that was one of the reasons "Her Diamonds" either debuted so high on Countdown, or why it moved up so fast (I don't recall exactly). So it would seem that heavy traffic on an artists Vh1 community page may be something, in addition to voting, that helps make a decision by Vh1's producers -- especially in the beginning, before a video is up for votes. It's all about buzz. RCA will also likely pay for some placement, which is legal on cable TV, but not on over-the-airwaves radio.

I just do not understand.....David should be on the countdown
I watched parts of the countdown, too, hoping to hear some remark about David Cook. But I didn't hear anything. I want FIM played on it. David cut his hair so you would think that would have been a prelude to playing the freaking song on the countdown. I don't get why some artists (like Adam L.) get their name out there with all their publicity but don't even go platinum here in America, yet Cook who's gone platinum on songs and CD's can't get his second single mentioned on the countdown or get any tv spots to play the song? What's up with that? Sorry, I'm just a tad frustrated here.
I watched the countdown this morning, well most of it, to see if anything would maybe mentioned about it, but nothing.
This has nothing to do with FIM, but my mom came in while I was watching it, and she looks at Jim Shearer, and she's like "Didn't he have curly hair?" and I, stifling a laugh, said "Yes....it got cut off..." and she kinda shrugged, and I continued, "on tv.....by David Cook..." and she looked up. "It was all over the internet," I finished, exaggerating a bit*
and she was like "Like, THE David Cook?" "Yes." "And you didn't tell me!?" she squealed. I had to turn away or else I would have died of laughter. I said "I didn't know you'd wanna know...but I forgot..." "It's DAVID COOK." she said, with her eyes as large as a dinner plate. xD "Oooh, I'm sorry, I forgot...it's DAVID COOK." I giggled in my mind. hahahahhaahaha!!! my mom and her "voice crush" on David kills me xDD Just thought I'd share lol
I do too mainedcfan. It would be a shame if VH1 never adds FIM. They all seem tolike David there, so it seems like a no-brainer that it would be added. Maybe there are $$$ involved that just weren't paid this time. Who knows?!!
I think you're right, Hummingbird. Joking about it but being persistent besides respectful is definitely the way to go, imo. I'm going to go tweet something myself. I hope we can get this puppy off the ground!
I actually tweeted to Shearer last night that since he had gotten a free haircut and free tickets to a concert I thought he ought to repay David by adding FIM to the Countdown. It was done in a joking way though so I think it was appropriate. I also tweeted something to VH1 about putting David's fans out of our misery by adding FIM to the Countdown. I think that's what I said anyway, but both were in a lighthearted manner. I believe if people tweet to those two directly it should be done in a respectful manner or something that might make them chuckle a bit.
PC - don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that those comments are why it's not on the Countdown. I'm saying I worry that if people continue to comment rudely, badger them, etc. that it could have an adverse effect.
Hummingbird - I'm not sure who those people are that are making the comments, except for one of them who is a huge fan & posts DC-related stuff on Facebook - we're friends on Facebook. She's the type who will stop I think when cautioned...we shall see.
Anyway, I agree it is ridiculous that FIM isn't on the Countdown. David has a history of his vids getting on the countdown & climbing to #1 and staying there. There's no reason for FIM to not be on there. I think we definitely should comment, on the site and to Jim Shearer on Twitter, in a persistent yet positive way.

I totally agree with you that it is very necessary to be polite in our requests to VH1 to add Fade Into Me to the Countdown. I always thought that goes without saying, but I do read the comments and I have noticed some that could be seen as badgering and some that are rude. I don't recall any of the people here being rude but admittedly, I don't read allthe comments.
Frankly, I am surprised and disappointed that it hasn't been added yet after the Hair-Ma-Geddon skit on the Buzz. But, I'm not giving up yet.

I don't approve of pestering either, but isn't it ridiculous for VH1 or any professional site/company to not showcase an artist's music or talent -- especially one who has appeared on their program and participated in a long, long skit-like presentation -- just because of a few fans who may annoy them in the comments of a web site? That seems so trivial and doesn't hurt the fans. It hurts the artist who they appear to like -- at least Jim Shearer seems to. I'll never get this business.
I really wish they would add it too. It's crazy that they haven't yet. I keep streaming it from where it is on VH1's site, which makes me want to bring up this up. I'm really concerned with how people are demanding, badgering and harassing VH1 in the comments under that video. Just a reminder to us all, know matter how frustrated we are about it, it's not going to get put on by us harassing them. We need to be persistent, but POLITE. I put this comment on under the video hoping people will consider being more polite, or at least not badger.
People, I think it's important to ASK VH1 to add Fade Into Me to the Top20 Countdown, but please don't harass & badger them...that can have the opposite result! Lets be consistent, but POLITE!!

Last time, with TLG they added it on a Tuesday. Here's hoping tomorrow is the magic day.
Just wish VH1 would start playing FIM. All that hairathon promotion and interview with David and we have still not seen FIM on VH1. What are they waiting for???

It is at least on where the Top20 Live videos of his are. I just re-watched all of them. Besides Fade Into Me, that High and Dry is a top fave of mine! Incredibly beautiful, both the song and David!
It would be a dirty rotten shame if the FIM video does not make onto VH1. Didn't David say on the Buzz that this is his favorite video? We need to get David's favorite video out to the masses!
Okay troops of Cook's voting army, it is time to saddle up and start commenting again at VH1. The New Year will be here before we know it and we need to get the buzz back up on the comments at his community. See the links up top in the OP.
Welcome to the thread IluvDCyes. There has been some remodeling and a bit of sprucing up done here since the CBTM era. I hope you approve of the new decor. Thank you for posting at VH1. If you would continue to do that a few times a week it would be really helpful. You are so good at spreading the love for DC.

Well, Squirrellygirl,your news is quite disturbing,but I was wondering if FIM would make the Countdown before they take their break for the Holidays. Maybe they will show FIM on Jumpstart. VH1 has always been good to David in the past so I have no reason to think FIM won't get added shortly after the New Year. In the meantime, I will look for a way we can request it to be added to Jumpstart.
Please keep up the posting at David's Community on VH1 website at least, and keep commenting on the video. Let's show VH1 the love, respect, and admiration we have for David.
Hi Rascalete, Jim Shearer said that was the last VH1 Top Twenty countdown for this year. They are doing a top 40 for the year, and another special that includes Kelly Clarkson, but we'll have to wait until next year for FIM to appear on Top Twenty. I was hoping it would make it this year, too. I thought maybe they would show it on there as a newbie, but they didn't. Jim wore that awful Christmas hat the whole show. I don't think he showed his shaven head, did he? I didn't hear him mention it at all!
I was disappointed to see that VH1 took off the 3:00am edition of The Top 20 Countdown off. Hoping that the 9:00am brings us Fade Into Me on the poll.

I was so happy David didn't have to cut his hair,but a bit disappointed they didn't show the entire FIM video and showed more of LO instead. I enjoyed seeing David back at VH1 though and I am so counting on FIM being on JumpStart or the Top 20 Countdown very soon.
Make sure to like, thumbs up and comment on the video of the Morning Buzz and anywhere else you can on VH1. They have started the "Buzz" officially now so it is up to us to keep it "Buzzing".

I'm hoping that if Jim S is having David on the show tomorrow that it must mean FIM is going to start being played on either JumpStart or the countdown very soon after. Why else would you have an artist as a guest if their video wasn't being debuted?

I finally see on my dvr schedule that it is showing David on Friday. My provider must be realy slow. I think we should see FIM on VH1 countdown next week maybe Jumpstart next week and countdown the next week after that. I am so ready to start voting again.

I think Closeyoureyes is going to help me to get the video downloaded. She had me dowload to Share4, and she said she would check it out from there. I was able to download it there, and it was successful, and I could see and hear it there.
I tried to download to youtube, but you can only see the video there, but there is no audio there. I don't know why. I've kind of given up on youtube for this video.
I saw the tweet Jim Shearer put out about his plans for David's hair. I tweeted him back that it was mean and remember carma! Ha ha.
Did you see the picture on Shearer's twitter page of David holding his long locks with a scared look on his face? Funny. It's like the second picture once you go to Jim's twitter page where he has his photos.
BTW, my DirecTV channel guide has David Cook listed on Morning Buzz on VH1 on Friday morning at 9 a.m. ET. So it is kind of official... DVR is set.
I wish I could help,but I have no idea how to post a video unless it is a you-tube link. Is it saved in your computer? If so you might be able to upload it to you tube and then post the link. I am so technically challenged I can't even figure out how to get my 7 videos from the Nov. 1st show out of my flipcam into my computer to load them to you tube. And my camerais being a testy little thing not letting be get the pics loaded to my laptop. Grrrr!!!

I have to say Squirrellygirl, it is nice to see you back here at DCO. I remember I used to see you a lot, then not so much, and then not at all. I like your screen name so I guess that's why I noticed when it didn't show up much any more.
I am all better today I think. That flu bug had me sicker than sick for 7 full days. Funniest thing, or maybe just ironic because the flu isn't so funny, is that I had a doctor's appointment for a checkup and a flu shot on Dec. 9th.
Now for business at hand, just because I was sick and couldn't, I hope that doesn't mean the rest of you haven't been commenting on David's community boards as linked up for VH1, and watching the video and commenting on it there too. I feel good things coming for our fabulous , deserving and sexalicious Mr. Cook.

Squirrellygirl: I am so sorry I have left you here talking to yourself the past few days. I have been down with the flu and it has been all I could do to get through a workday. I actually missed one day and went home early 3 days. (I was consederate and wore a mask)

The shaving of the head thing, if true must have come up off camera because when they agreed to this Hair-A-Thon, nothing was mentioned about it.
I fully expect FIM to be aired on Morning Buzz. I assume it will be added to the countdown if not this week, surely shortly after the appearance on the Buzz. Although, I think TLG went from the Buzz to Jumpstart, then to the Countdown. I also have been considering that David has been on VH1 at the time the video first airs somewhere on the channel, and thisweek would be the first week he has been available tobe in NY in the VH1 studios. I expect they will tape more than him just being on the Buzz. JMO of course.
I would suggest that we all set our DVR's, TiVo, whatever you use for both the 8th and the 9th just in case,since both dates have been mentioned.

Do you think that maybe when Jim Shearer "met with the people from David Cook's label" there might have been some discussion of playing the video for FIM on VH1? After all, having David on the Buzz is only going to make the viewing and/or recording of that show for that day double!
