Lyrics:
Today’s not the same as everyday It’s far from ordinary The pain I endure, you’re my cure But my mistakes have led me Far away from you You turn away from all those things that I’ve been trying to say And all those promises I shouldn’t have made I did it for you Mile by mile Feelings I just can’t reconcile My heart’s on a string, these broken wings Who knew I’d be so fragile Far away from you You turn away from all those things that I’ve been trying to say And all those promises I shouldn’t have made I did it for you I search my soul And all these feelings that I can’t control You’re the one thing that can make me whole I did it for you Tryin’ to let you know Tryin’ to let you know Tryin’ to let you know Today’s not the same as everyday It’s far from ordinary

Reviews for this Track

"I Did It For You" by "David Cook" is my favorite David Cook song. It sounds really great to me. It kind of makes me cry each time I here it. That's how great it is. I jus really means a lot to me. I don't know why it does, but it does.

Can't get enough. From the moment I heard this song, I fell in love with its lyrics. I found it quite disturbing that people attempted posting these very lyrics on public websites that turned out to be all wrong. It's amazing what people think they hear. As for me, I heard every word correctly. Lyrics are my passion in a song. I have a gift for hearing the words as they are written and i'm thankful for that gift. The well chosen words of this song really reached out to my soul and i felt every emotion. Thank you David.

Okay, I may not get why there are actually people out there who didn't like this song. Is it because it sounded too Top 40 than rock? Maybe I'll never be able to get it.

But honestly, I care not a darn about these naysayers, cos I'm one of the few who loved this song. For one sure thing, it has that vibe of OneRepublic's Stop And Stare. It's like, say ... stop, stare and reflect that he/she did it all for you. LOL.

On the other hand, there's also this feeling that this song and Lie may actually be inter-connected, in the very sense that, "I lied because I did it for you". Credits goes to Scott for that theory. LOL.

This song is full of love and ache. When I listen to the lyrics I feel some kind of mistake has been made and the only thing to make him whole is reconciliation with the one that the mistake has been make against...or for.

It can most certainly be a love song with longing for that reconciliation. I love it being that and can relate.

However, I believe this song could possibly be for Andrew. Perhaps not DC's intentions... but perhaps he pursued doing his best on American Idol for Andrew. He had mentioned how he wanted to win because it would be unfair to all of the thousands that had auditioned wanting that very thing. This was the case for his brother as well as the thousands. I read an article written about their mom that talked about how hard it was for Andrew to get on board at first. However, he did after a short time give DC his FULL support. Perhaps doing his best on AI was hard for DC (IDK) because he realized if he won he wouldn't have the control he would want over his music...

Then on the other hand, Maybe Andrew encouraged him to stay true to himself and that's why he sang TWIK in the finale...either way, I can see how the opening lyrics stating "Today’s not the same as everyday
It’s far from ordinary" was about winning AI and how he did for Andrew. I even think the other lyrics support this. For example mile by mile can either refer to the journey on AI or the miles between him and Andrew... and how fragile he was away from his family (which includes his brother(s)).

Bottom line: this song is beautiful and though it wasn't one of my initial favorites the lyrics did pull me in right away because I thought is was for Andrew...now, in addition to that, I love it as a song longing for reconciliation between two who love each other...whatever that love means.

Wow, one day, about 10 days after the album dropped, this track hit me like a ton of bricks. On shuffle, my ipod insisted on playing this during the first couple of weeks after the album dropped. It would come up 2nd or 3rd every time. I'm not sure this would have been a go-to track, but I gave in and decided to let it play a few times, blasting in the car. I couldn't get it out of my head, and so I eventually sat down, ipod on/ear buds in... and listened while reading the lyrics here at DCO. That was nearly a month ago, and this has been one of my favorite tracks on the album ever since. I can't get enough of it.

This song took a while to catch on with me. It was one of my least favorite off the album but I have grown to love it. The song builds towards a terrific ending. I think anyone who has left someone behind to pursue a dream can relate to the lyrics.

I must say at first i didn't feel too into this song, but after listening to it some times...i'm just loving it!
I always tend to prefer love theme-involving songs, and the lyrics of this one. I learned to like them.
This is my favorite part:

Mile by mile
Feelings I just can’t reconcile
My heart’s on a string, these broken wings
Who knew I’d be so fragile
Far away from you

CRASHING (dco) FOR COOKIE!!!

This song is growing on me as a favorite with each play...I absolutely love the runs in the words (not sure of the right way to describe) in David's voice as he sings this one. I am editing my review from a 4 to a 5...the more I listen, the more I really love this one... My 9 year-old daughter loves this song and says it is her favorite on the cd... She is responsible for the many plays which has led to my growing love and appreciation of this song.

this is one of the catchiest song in the album !! like HEROES, i love it the first time i heard it ... it's THAT good !!! keep rockin' man .. lml

My favorite song on the album! Laughing out loud
