“LIGHT ON” IS RELEASED TO RADIO THIS WEEK AND WILL PREMIERE EXCLUSIVELY ON AOL MUSIC ON WEDNESDAY

David Cook's first single, “Light On,” produced by Grammy winning producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Kid Rock) is being released to radio this week and will be made available on iTunes on 9/30.

"Light On" will premiere exclusively on AOL Music on Wednesday, September 24, on AOL's pop culture news site, PopEater.com. Earlier this year, Cook had the biggest single premiere of the year on PopEater.com with "The Time of My Life" garnering more than one million streams in 24 hours.

“Light On” was co-written by one of rock music’s most influential innovators, Chris Cornell, lead singer and songwriter for Soundgarden and Audioslave, and acclaimed producer / songwriter Brian Howes, who has worked with superstar rock bands such as Hinder and Puddle of Mudd.

Cook has been busy in the studio with Cavallo, co-writing many of the upcoming album’s tracks alongside some of music’s hottest rock songwriters.

Last week marked the launch of DavidCookOfficial.com, Cook’s official social networking site where fans can interact with David, his music and each other. Fans can create their own profiles, make friends and contribute their own blogs, photos, videos and connect with other fans in their towns by various search functionalities. After only five days, it was already the #1 artist site within the entire SonyBMG community.

Earlier this summer Cook set the record for the most new entries by an artist in the 50-year history of the Hot 100, with 11 songs entering the chart dated June 7, 2008. That broke the record of six new entries in one week. Cook's 11 songs were led by "The Time of My Life," which debuted at No. 3, making it the highest new entry of 2008. "The Time of My Life" debuted at No 1 on two other charts, the Hot Digital Songs and the Hot Digital Tracks.

25 year old David Cook hails from Blue Springs, Missouri.

Hi David, I just wanted to pass this along... Last night I called a L.A. rock station and asked if he would play "Light On" by David Cook he started joking around with me (on the air) he said "I don't want to hear that! I have a bunch of requests for Metallica here" he asked me where I was calling from I said, "Im driving in my car and I'm from Laguna Beach. I asked him to please have a listen before he judged. He promised me that he would only because I sounded cute." ha ha. To my surprise and shock a few minutes later he says (on the air) "Lovely Laguna Beach girl, I liked it, hmmmm Chris Cornell and David Cook drive careful lovely Laguna" LOL I had to pull over I was wrecked! LOL
Can't wait for your album!
Love ya Cook <3

David,

Please do not put your face in the album cover - why? because a true musician does not need a face to sell their music but a voice which you undoubtedly have. Also, please include the (love) song you wrote for a special someone during axium days - why? it is one of the few songs that could be played with the classic songs such as steve perry's"open arms". By the way, the art cover of your axium album is ok and there is a kind of peaceful feeling in your website's background .

Would you mind releasing a collection of all the songs you used throughout your Am-Idol days - from your audition to the final night. It would be better if it contains the live and studio version.

Thank you and to your website crew, Best Wishes!

David,
To quote/misquote, your man ,Abraham Lincoln (I'm writing from NZ)

"You can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time---so you just have to please yourself!

Go with that and you'll be able to express the wonderful talent you have.
All the best.
Helen

David, David, David,
Write about anything, write about the AI Tour, your a good lyricist and you have the amazing voice to express it.
I have just been listening to Led Zepppelin , Earls Court 1975, singing 'Bron-Yr-A-ur-Stomp' written for Robert Plant's dog "Strider" and 'Going to California', apparently written for Joni Mitchell....,
Write and sing about what is close to your heart and don't let them sabotage you with over production. 'Analog Heart is fabulous!
I know it's tough, but to quote Randy from AI " you can do this"
You can!!!
Helen

"Light On" is amazing!! I love the vocals and the hook!! It''s sure to be #1 for a long time!! If this is a hint of what is to come, then no doubt your Nov. album will be HOT!! (of course) Can't wait!!! And hope to see the video soon!!!
Thank you, DC!!
E

Has anyone heard it on the radio in Chicago yet? If yes, what station? Thanks

Not to be greedy but... when can we expect to see the video?

It is embarassing to me how obsessed I am by this man's music, voice, eyes. I thought I was through the worst of it, but now there's a new song to rekindle the Cook-mania. I feel more normal here on his website, because I see that I am not the only one whom he has affected in this way.

I love the new song, can't wait for the new album and I'm hoping that this feeling never ends!

I just love David's new song "light on" so much! The melody is constantly playing in my mind and the lyrics are sssooooo David Cook. It makes me cry and smile at the same time! If there was a video of him singing this I would never leave my computer!!!

I'm so hooked on Cook it is utterly pathetic!!

Yeah, David, "Light On" is just the tip of the iceberg. I have listened numerous times (on popeater & the radio stations' play on demand) & I must say I love your voice in this song. And, like everyone else, I can't wait to actually hear this on the radio.

The rest of the album? I can't wait! (like I have a choice.)

Love the LO track of course (it is hot!), but, David, what I have to say that what I am REALLY looking forward to will be the first tracks we will hear that will be both written and performed by you AS WELL AS recorded in a cutting edge studio with all the professionals who will make it sound amazing. Analog Heart gives us your raw talent in writing and performance, but the recording and mixing were not at the level that you will be enjoying from now on. We fans know that this first album has been written, recorded, mixed and produced while you were essentially being transported across the US on a bus!! We are amazed that you were able to put this effort together while touring daily on the road. Hopefully as life is settling down a bit for you (relatively speaking of course) you will realize that your fans are dying to hear your own material. Everything of course will come in its time!!
David, I just want you to know that when you come to Cleveland (The Home of Rock and Roll) you can count on a pianist who is looking forward to accompanying you on all your songs. Can't wait! Smiling

DC's Accompanist in Cleveland

David,
The song is just awsome.

Thank you, David! Light On is totally you, and totally awesome! You are always exceeding yourself. And you're nice, too! WE are the lucky ones. Thank you.

Hi guys!
I just want to say that David, you and the band have done a great job on this song.
I join with the other fans in saying I can't wait to hear the rest come November 18. . . . tick tock!
Luv you guys!

David, Light On is the first switch that will TURN the lights on in the music industry! The rest of the songs on the album will all be switches that will KEEP the lights on for music fans for a very long time. You are truly beyond words. You are good for music. You are good for humanity.

I saw you on tour in Sunrise, FL and was so privileged to have met you in the afterparty gathering. I was the one who gave you the book, "Eats, Shoots & Leaves"-- guessing you probably haven't had time to read it yet. I also sent four little sterling silver charms on ball chains with the words "Dreams Come True", "Believe", "Hope" and "Courage" to the Fox/19 Entertainment address in Hollywood to encourage you on your journey during the week of Top 5 or 6. I often wonder if they ever reached you. Well, if they did not, my good wishes and sentiments for you remain the same -- may you always believe in your dreams because dreams do come true, continue to live with hope in your heart, and have the courage to be the change you want to see in the world.

I'm excitedly anticipating your album's release on Nov. 18th! My birthday is on 22nd (Saturday), but since albums are only released on a Tuesday, I said to my hubby that you are releasing it that week for me. Smiling To humor me, he said, "Yes he is!" Now if only I could get my hands on a signed copy...

P.S. My hubby came to the AI concert and afterparty with me, and now he's a fan of yours, too. He's a big fan of rock music and he thinks the new single sounds fantastic!

Thank you very much for your gift to the world!!!! I love you!!!!

I heard your new single on the radio today and I absolutly love it. Youre vocals on this song are awesome. Nov. 18 can't come soon enought. Already Counting Down

Way to go, David!!!! "Light On" was worth the wait Smiling Love the growlier, rougher DC that was always lurking around the edges during the Idol competition. Welcome back!! I hope it shoots straight to the top of the charts and hangs there like a dangling participle!! (any WN worth their salt will recognize that one...) XXOO--Rowana13 WN 1342

David,

LOVE "Light On!" I sent an e-mail (don't know if you will actually see it), saying that I would love to hear you sing this, on tour, as the last song of the night, with everyone holding light sticks and singing along; very symbolic.

The light is always on, in my heart, for you.

Your fan forever,
Maria

I absolutely love the song! I can't wait to hear the entire album.

AMAZING! I just listened to it and Im at a loss of words!! I just love it =]. Cant ask for a better song!!

lhey fans!!! I just listened to Light on in Davids official fansite david-cook.org WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR !!!!!! IT´S GREAT!!!!!! (L)

Wowzee!!!!!!! I cannot get enough of this single. LO is brilliant, showcasing your AMAZING vocal range and the emotion you pour into everything you do. Smart choice for the transition from TOML. This is sure to break a lot of records!!! And the picture......"THUD" (picks self up off the floor).

Thank you, David Cook. You never disappoint.

What an amazing song and what an amazing young talent. As a Mom who enjoys the accomplishments of my 3 young adult daughters I can only imagine how your Mom must feel right now. Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us. Someone posted on one of the other sites that you needed to listen to the words as if you were leaving for Iraq (being from a huge military town that is a daily occurence here) and after doing that I realized that this song will touch the lives of many people in that position. Hopefully our stations will be playing it soon!
And for anyone who is trying to get a password for this website--after many tries the one that finally worked was Yahoo!

David .. I hope that you read these blogs or someone who looks out for you and how you do with the Radio Stations reads this!!!! I was looking in at our local radio station here in Tulsa, Ok (Mix 96 FM - 96.5) to find out what was going on with Davids song "Light On" and see if they were playing it as I had not heard it out there on the radio. I did not find it listed anywhere on their last song played or in the long list of songs played in the past couple of hours. I called the radio station and just got off of the phone with them. He told me to tell you that they had not received the info about the song. I am sure that there are alot of radio stations that did not know that there was a new release from David to be played! While on the phone with me the did find the message on Play MPE and will listen to it. I told them that that there are probably alot of David's fans that would love to hear the new release "Light On" and are very anxiously awaiting to hear it on the Radio stations. Anyway.. just an FYI from a concerned fan keeping an ear out for David! Beth Wolfe cbwolfe98@yahoo.com

Try to leave a LIGHT on when I'm GONE....

Yep. I'm pretty much addicted! Smiling

David Cook went back to the future and wasn’t impressed.

...and no doubt you've been waiting to sing us something new, too. David, this new song of yours has "hit" written all over it. I've already posted before, explaining why the lyrics alone made me feel this way, and now that I've heard it, I know I was right...along with ALL your fans who have known you'd be a star from the first moment of hearing you. If you stay steady on the track you're on, you need never doubt that you will be a huge success, with staying power. Trust your fans. We KNOW.

The more I listen to LO - must be on the 15th time by now - you pick up some much from feelings to David's wonder power notes, his softness, compassion, everything David.

Cannot wait to start hearing LO here on the NY stations and of course cannot wait for David + band to come to Manhattan to see/hear David live.

I have listened to "Light On" a million times already...lol. I truly love the song. I can't wait for it to be on the radio. Remember to all vote for it once it hits XM 20. Hopefully we can make it # 1 ASAP. I am so happy for you David. You are going to have a HUGE hit with this one. You deserve it.

I love, love, love the new single. Great lyrics, great music, and that great David Cook voice. It has the rock edge that we love and still is main stream enough to reach a wide audience. It is going to be such a success. When can we download/purchase it. Can't wait! Thank you so much for putting something out there to help us get through until the album release in November. Miss you in concert and can't wait for the solo tour in January. Please come to Chicago!

Because this song is going to be scrutinized to death by critics and fans alike with pre-formed opinions, it was very wise to first release something written by well-known songwriters. Also, it's a more mainstream stepping stone for Time of My Life fans who haven't heard Analog Heart. Plus it gives the rest of us something new and good(!) for the meantime, but still leaves us on the edge of our seats for David the Songwriter.
Smart, smart, smart.
