For the past 4 years, several American Idol alumni have visited the Philippines like Taylor Hicks, Michael Johns, Elliot Yamin, Chris Daughtry, Constantin Maroulis but they did not get the very warm welcome David Cook and Archie have received in May 2009, not even the 2 Filipino AI alumni Jasmine Trias and Ramiele Malubay.

Filipinos have been watching American Idol since Season 1 in 2002 like watching ball games then forget them afterwards. But not until Season 7 when a contestant named David Cook was introduced, millions were glued on their TV sets. He is so brilliant, his voice, his music. So when he visited us last May, we went to the streets to show our love to this man.

Thirst for idol brand? Not all of them because we know a brilliant class act when we see one!

DAVID:I SAW 20 TIMES THE INTERVIEW....BUT I WANT TO ASK YOU WHICH TYPE OF ACTING PROJECTS OFFERED TO YOU.
I WOULD LIKE YO SEE YOU SINGING WITH A POWERFUL; LADY AS CARRIE UNDERWOOD, IN A DUET IN YOUR NEXT ALBUM ,AS A SPECIAL GUEST .....(I SAW THE AIDOL EXPERIENCE IN DISNEYWORLD SINGING TOGHETER..I KNOW THAT SHE EARNED 14MILLION THIS YEAR.AND GRAMMYS)
FINALLY, I KNOW SENTENCES IN PORTUGUES..THE LANGUAGE OF BRAZIL:"COMO VAI VOCE?=HOW ARE YOU....GAROTAS=SPECIAL NICE LADIES FROM BRAZIL;
IF YOU NEED PORTUGUES , SPANISH, FRENCH, ITALIAN, OR HEBREW LESSONS...I CAN TEACH YOU ONLINE. (I AM ORIGINALLY FROM ARGENTINA).
YOU DESERVE ALL WHAT YOU DREAM!!!!!!GOOD NIGHT...YMF=YOUR MYSTERY FAN.....
I WAIT YOUR ANSWER...OK!!!!

David, first of all, condolences for the passing of your dear brother Adam. I've kinda followed your career ever since I saw you in last year's AI. Adam was very much a part of your AI journey so we knew about him also. Yup, I have to admit I got hooked on AI during season 7. It was because of you, needless to say. I liked it when you performed well known songs and made them your own. There was something about you, not just the talent which is obvious that drew my attention. Okay, okay, I have to admit that there was also that "ruggedly handsome with a charming grin/smile" factor in you which attracted my eyes, haha. But it's just lately that I am able to see this other side you. You are one smart guy, you're very articulate in handling your interviews. I started noticing this when this side of you got, should I say more exposed when you did those interviews in the Philippines. I told myself, this guy is really something. He talks with sense. I like it that you're humble too which is very rare to see nowadays among famous celebrities. I think these same qualities endeared you to your Filipino fans. It was not so much I guess because of the "thirst for the Idol brand". See?, you're so humble. It's all about you and your music that the people has come to love. I was giggling when you were talking about your experience with the "armed guards". Filipinos were just so excited to see you and they are well known for being warm and hospitable so it's not surprising at all to see them acting "strangely" during your mall visit, haha. I was actually in the US last year just before the AI finals week for a vacation. I and a friend even missed your group's visit to Mirage in Vegas. We were already in LA at that time. That's why when I heard that you were finally coming over to Manila for a concert, I didn't want to miss it for anything in the world, haha. I was there to witness you perform for 40..50..115,000 people. I was mesmerized by your mere presence. It was as if I was dreaming the whole time and just savored every moment there was for me to see you in person. Lastly, let me thank you for being such a good sport and being so nice yourself when you were in Manila. You just don't know how much that meant to all your Filipino fans. As for me, I will silently watch you from a distance as your dreams become a reality. Wish I could be closer, though, haha. Keep on doing what you're GREAT at, GREAT GUY!!!
Love,
Ems(Cook) Smiling, GREAT name huh?

condolences for him. it's great too that he appreciated and kinda not get consumed by fame and popularity. but there was this certain phrase that caught my attention. i was at the concert of the two davids in manila so i kinda felt the overwhelming welcome of the fans there. that's because not only that the fans in the philippines appreciated archie and cook on american idol but more importantly i think it's so much more because of their music. people in the philippines are musically inclined and have high sensitivity and very critical when it comes to the whole package of being a music artists. i think people flocked there not just because of the thirst of the idol brand but because again the appreciation of the music. and that they are charmed by the humble beginnings and remained to be sort of humble still personality despite the fame. 40-100 thousand whatever the digit of the crowd, it's not just them who have received that kind of support. point is whoever artists, whether local or international, whom people thought have passed their standards, they will surely receive a massive support in the country. more than the artist as a person per se it's really the music, the high quality of the music that is. and i think that's what immortalizes the artists.

it may have only been less than 20 minutes of David on larry king, but it was really amazing..
i'm just glad that the rest of the world got to see what we've known for the past year and that is you who has an incredible heart and the inner strength of a man. i really enjoyed your interview and your thoughts regarding your brother's passing moved me. you and your family are in my prayers. best of luck with your musical career and future projects...maybe acting?
btw, who are you dating and what kind of food do you eat? lol

I know what you can act on! Choose one of the following:

Criminal Minds(my favourite show of all time)

CSI: Miami (acting with David Caruso->I will laugh SOOOOOOOOOOOO hard)

CSI: NY (David and Macie(nickname for the famous, invincible Mac Taylor) whoo!)

Those are my favourite shows and I can get them on my TV. Please, David, let us know what show you'll be starring on, (pick a GOOD show, not those dumb shows that aren't good). For my vote, I want you to guest star on Criminal Minds. I love Spencer Reid. He is my second husband. You, Mr. Foxy, are my first! (Derek Morgan and Arron Hotchner are my boyfriends) Laughing out loud

it was a great interview . . . you were very smooth and cool, not to mention very kind to an aging, befuddled LK. how do you keep so level in those situations? i'd have looked at him cross-eyed, but then, it's that modesty and gentleness you exude that is so endearing! am happy you've extended your tour, and i'll be able to hit your show in VA next month. am really looking forward to it!

i was in school so i failed to watch his interview:(
has anyone posted some videos?? if so, can someone send me the link??
thanks a bunch...

Reading all these long comments I wasn't sure I should write anything, but I felt the need to tell David how much I admire him in general and how proud I am of the way he handle things on the interview.

I could read on Dave's face that it was difficult for him taking about the loss of his brother. There were moments when I looked into his eyes and almost didn't recognize him. You could just read the pain. During the video cuts of "Light On" and "Permanent" Idol Performance it seemed,at least to me it did, that all that pain would burst into tears.

I am sorry that they didn't give him more time to talk about the charity.

I didn't get the time to read all the comments so I don't know if anyone else spotted this. During the interview there was a question about Adam Lambert's sexuality. Usually journalists use this type of questions to put the interviewed person in a bad light. I really liked the answer that David gave:"I'm hoping that we'll get to a point where it's just like anything else...like hair colour". I really liked that.

It is always a pleasure to see David interviews.

All my prayers and thoughts are with Dave, his family and the band!
And all the best of luck when they start the tour again!

Dear David,

I don't think there is much left to add. So many have already stated exactly how I felt while watching your interview. We saw what it cost you emotionally to do it (and felt that raw, pit of your stomach feeling right alongside you), and we know why you did it, which makes us respect and admire you even more.

Your strength is a testament to your love of your family, and it is rare these days that someone in the public spotlight be so emotionally vulnerable. The juxstaposition of your interview with the so-called "celebrities" that followed you was quite telling. The Speidi's seemed especially petty and juvenile in comparison. I'm sad (and somewhat angry) if their inclusion meant that your time to talk about your important charity work was shortened.

As for your music, so much of it speaks for itself. I find new favorites everyday - songs that when I first listened I just liked, I now find that I LOVE and can't wait to hear again and again. I frankly don't care what you eat, what you wear, or anything about girlfriends. I would like to know more about the band, life on the road, Dublin (because he is just too cute for words), and what you want to do for your next album (as well as your thoughts on your prior work).

I really look forward to seeing you in concert once again next week in Oklahoma. I hope you had a restful break!

Laverne

You were wonderful on LK's show, and he was not....Thank you for sharing your life to us.... and your music.
Just like what some of your fans said, I hope you don't ever come back to that show(LK live) again. But you are a good person so i know it won't bother you how he handled the interview with you as long it's not you who did the wrong thing,( that's how i thought i knew you).

As your fan, sorry if we cannot help it when we want to know all the simple things that you do. It's just that we love you.

Take care and God Bless!

It was great to see David again. He looked really good...fresh. He handled all the questions thrown at him with such dignity. It seemed like he had a hard time when they showed clips of him announcing his brother's death and singing 'Permanent' on the AI finale. Plus, it seems like he doesn't care to look at himself on TV...like he's almost uncomfortable. Larry seemed to have some 'duh' moments, but I thought the interview went pretty well. Larry seems to like David and vice versa; you could tell when LK held out his hand to shake David's. He probably does it with everyone, but it was a nice gesture.

As for annoucing the ridiculous Jonas Brothers, I could have done without that. Also, Speidi?!?! How ridiculous! Why did they feel the need to go on there and say that Al Roker was mean to Heidi?!?! Boohoo, cry me a freaking river. It's life...deal with it! You don't need to go on other shows and say how mean someone is to you. I don't go around saying that to other people. Geez! Larry could have interviewed David for another 10 minutes, but heaven forbid Speidi has to get their face out there! I rather listen to David and all the amazing things he's done and will do, instead of Speidi complaining about such nonsense! David has way more talent and heart than those two ever will!

Good interview David Smiling...wish I could have seen more of you!

Have a great Day!

I don't care about the Jonas brothers & he kept mentioning them. Not that I have anything seriously against them, but is everybody on the planet 12 years old, or something? ...seriously! I could care less about all these Disney kids..Miley, Selena, Demi...! I would have rather he squeezed in another question from David in the time he took to talk about them. Anyway, I found it sad when David mentioned all he gets asked about are personal things rather than about his music...I could see some level of frustration would come with that. He probably never bargained on being a sex symbol and having all these girls mad obsessed with him, but he's gotta realize it goes with the territory. He's just got a way with us ladies and he can't help it! but, there's no need to worry cause the music speaks for itself in the long run.

No disrepsect to all of the fans, DC, and family. AC not AK and here I am dissing LK.
Anyways I did want to add a comment that DC looked really rested, (and hot!!!), and ready to resume his tour. Can't wait to see what's next. Anybody have any information?

--
jandapp

Larry King is an aging journalist, a title I use loosely given the circumstance. An insightful journalist would have known what AK meant, and that Adam's initials have been on that guitar for at least 1 year. I thought DC was brilliant, maintaining his dignity and respect in the situation despite LK's lack of the same.
All of this confirms statements I made months ago, DC can act, and is a force to be reckoned with wherever he goes. Watch out Hollywood, there just may be a new man in town.

David,

You did an excellent job on Larry King last night. The questions were not as polished as they could have been and many bridged on the line of inappropriate. I first want to extend my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your brother. Cancer is such an ugly disease that robs so many of us of truly wonderful people. I have lost a good number of people to the disease and do what I can with what I have to promote cancer research.

I have been a fan since Idol-I love your music, your creativity, and your talent. But what makes me continue to love you and follow you is your intelligence, your poise, your devotion to cancer research, and how you seem down to earth and kind.

Keep up the great work-musically and otherwise. I look forward to seeing you later this summer in concert and I really want you to come back to Omaha and give a concert that anyone can get tickets for!

David...

You are truly an inspiration for all of us! Thank you for sharing such an intimate and private part of your life so that others may benefit. Continue to celebrate Adam's life as you have...it will leave an important legacy for his wife and children as they grow and continue to know their dad through your memories and words. My husband's mother passed away from brain cancer when he was just 11 years old...and it was that celebration of her life that helped him know his mother better and allows him to keep her legacy alive for our children...her grandchildren.
I was at the Sunfest in Palm Beach, Florida at your concert. It was truly amazing! Then when I heard the very next day what had happened I was devastated...I have not stopped praying for you and your family since that day.
Continue to keep it real...it is your honesty, lust for life and love for your family and those you hold dear that makes you truly special...thank you for sharing your heart and soul with us time and again with your words and your music...
Love the PERMANENT video!
May the Lord continue to protect you and your family through this difficult time...
I hope to see you in Miami in concert sometime soon...
God Bless.....

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also..."

It was a very nice interview; very sweet as well. I was happy to see that you are going through things with your great sense of humor. Sorry you had to share the hour with Speidi...you were the best part of the hour Laughing out loud

Lots of Love

Dear David:
I'm glad I got the alert telling me about your appearance of Larry King and I also taped the show as well. David you handled everything very well and how you kept your emotions in check is impressing to me since I know how much your brother's death is still so fresh in your heart and mind. I admire you very much and even though I voted for the other David I like you both equally now! I look forward to seeing you tour and hopefully if I still live in North Carolina come October I will travel down to Columbia and see you at their State Fair! Take care and don't work too hard! Warmest wishes, Gail

David,
I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed watching the interview you did with Larry King. Mainly because you were so open, honest, and articulate in answering all the questions he asked. I know that must have been hard talking about Adam so much, but I appreciate you sharing some private feelings and details about his life and death. He must have been a great guy and you are blessed to be his brother and he was blessed to be yours too.
I also enjoyed the other things you talked about and the clips they showed from 'Light On' and 'Come Back to Me', along with clips from the Race for Hope, 'Permanent' and American Idol. Also, the pictures were great!
I do wish that they would have given you more time to maybe answer some of the questions that were sent by fans. I sent 3 and I'm sure they received many more from others. I'm sure there were probably some very interesting questions that you would have enjoyed answering. Maybe next time.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you did a great job and Larry King is correct in saying ' You are very special'! Have a great second leg of the tour and I'll see you at least once or twice, maybe more, along the way.

Love ya,
Jennifer

David knew what to expect in the interview, and I think he and his publicist did a superb job of preparing It was great seeing him!

David, I was happy to see you and once again impressed with how articulate and thoughtful your answers were. I was however very disappointed with the majority of the questions. I wonder if any fan questions were included. I would have liked to hear more about your music, how you are enjoying the tour and your future plans - for more recording. How you come by your lyrics, what makes you tic, in other words. You looked great and even though the interview questions were lacking, you were awesome.
Hope you enjoy the second half of your tour. I am so thrilled, I have tickets to see you at one of your shows. I have never bought tickets for a show but I could not miss seeing you while you were so close to my home town. I stood in line the day the tickets went on sale - was the 2nd in line to purchase them and by the time I was done your venue was sold out!!! I was sooooo pumped that I had been successful getting tickets.
See you in Minnesota!
Forever your fan.

David: Just wanted to say what a great interview (on your part) that was on LKL last night. I am so impressed with your composure, your clarity, and articulateness. You had obviously agreed to discuss Adam's death, and life after Idol and did so with such class. It must have been very difficult to watch the clips of the Race for Hope and the Permanent performance; it brought me to tears just watching you. Your courage, once again, shows itself as a way to honour your brother.

Although I too was disappointed in the lack of tact, respect, and overall competency that Larry King showed I recall you saying you're not into judging people and I try to do the same. Larry King is Larry King... why would we expect anything different. But I think what so many of us wish for you is that you would be interviewed by someone who DESERVES to interview you. Someone who has taken the time to research their subject (you) and prepare thoughtful, interesting, and meaningful questions, because you give thoughtful, interesting, meaningful answers. I have watched , read, or listened to almost every interview you've done in the past year, and so few have been of that quality, and it's always due to poor skills and preparation on the part of the interviewer. You deserve better, but as always, you show your complete professionalism and class by not reacting negatively to them.

I must disagree with kmshep and c4cjoanie however, with their list of (IMO) superficial, overused, and substanceless questions they suggest: those questions have already been asked of you far too many times. You comment that many people may be interested in what you eat or who you're dating; I for one would rather have interviews that give us that precious glimpse into your heart and soul through your music.

Thank you giving of yourself to bring your brother's death into spotlight to help honour him and raise awareness for ABC2. We know that you pay a price in your heart everytime you have to share your grief publicly and we respect you and commend you for that.

Wishing you a wonderful 2nd leg of the Declaration tour: You will reach those heights you speak of... with all your fans right there with you lifting you up, the way your music lifts us.

With just a kiss on the neck

You're very strong. And very respectable and private when you need to be.

I couldn't hold back the tears.

I'm glad he didn't ask you about your "love life" and all those tedious things that have nothing to do with you and what you bring to this world. YOURSELF and your music

~ If I ever found a one leaf clover, it would be you. ~

Oh! yes it was.
I loved every moment of this interview. The VH1's one made me smile. You know we're voting like crazy for you here. And i just couldn't agree more with Larry King's last sentence. You are special David Cook....Yes! You are.
Great job!
For always.
Julia

What is an Idol??: Here are a couple of dictionary definitions...
1. That on which the affections are strongly (often excessively) set; an object of passionate devotion; a person or thing greatly loved or adored.
2. a mere image or semblance of something, visible but without substance, as a phantom.

OK, the first one, for sure! Many of your fans are passionately (and often excessively, hehe!) devoted to you. The second one...nah. If that's the definition of an Idol then you are definitely NOT my Idol, Mr. Cook! For, in addition to your sexy good looks which are a definite draw(!), I appreciate you for the important things that you have shown me: your strength of character, your intellect, your quick wit, your sensitivity, your love of family, your musical creativity, your great stage presence, your ability to motivate hundreds to follow you (not blindly, but with empathy and conviction) to pursue great causes, like cancer advocacy.
David, you COULD be a one-dimensional Idol (like that cardboard cutout of you at Va Beach, haha!) But you are not; you have redefined the term 'Idol' to mean a person of strength and substance who is greatly admired by all who have the good fortune of meeting him and experiencing his inner (and outer) beauty and talent.

Oh, and thanks so much for adding a show at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA in July! Always a pleasure to welcome you back to the Washington, D.C. area, David!

Kudos to you ~D for "staying the course." You delivered your message; "pimped" "Permanent" and your advocation to ABC2, but somewhere, something was LOST!

First off, Larry King needs to get with the program or retire if he is too mature to deal with the guest in front of him. I personally was pissed off that he kept mentioning the Jonas Brothers and could not stay focused on his interview with you and I will voice my disappointment on LKL website.

However, I do not have all the information in front of me and I wonder if you were given information about questions that were sent to LKL ahead of time and declined to answer them, or, if in fact, Larry King just went with his own agenda.

A comment you made during the interview: "it amazes me that people want to know what I eat and who I date, instead of talking music, throws me a little and maybe I can shed some "light on" (no pun intended) this subject.

Let's be real here! We, your fans, loyal, dedicated, obsessed, you name it, have access to your music. The new stuff, the IDOL stuff, the Axium stuff, the MWK stuff and I think even the unreleased stuff, but what we don't have access to is the personal stuff. We...I want to know what turned you against "mustard" and what do you put on a hot dog!; I want to know what you do with all the stuff fans bring to you at your concerts; I want to know your favorite color; boxers or briefs or nothing; do you wear pajamas; are you a "tits or ass" man! Do you allow Dublin to lick your face? I WANT DAVID COOK "THE MAN" UNPLUGGED!"

WILL YOU GIVE IT TO US??????????

Joanie

I just wanted to say that my heart went out to you during that interview. I myself have lost 2 family members to 2 different types of cancer and currently have 3 other members who have fought cancers and are currently in remission(praise the Lord). I wear different colored bracelets to represent each of the cancers that my family members has had to face. The proceeds from the bracelets I bought went to cancer research.
I honestly don't know how you were able to sit there and speak on television about your family's tragedy. I could not have done it. Poor Larry King, I think he needs to retire. I could not believe that he asked you if your family was "prepared" for Adam's death. Did he think you were going to say, " Oh yes, of course, we had it all figured out how to say goodbye." Having gone through this with my family, you are never, ever prepared to say "goodbye" when that final moment comes, no matter how long or short the battle is. It is always a shock.
You are my hero for keeping your composure the way you did. I could not have done it. You are so sweet, and sincere and just an all around great guy! I can't wait to see you when you come to House of Blues in Chicago. Your music is awesome. Take Care. I will pray for strength for your family.

P.S.
I love Pork Beans!
More please!

It was so nice to see you again David! You did such an amazing job during the interview. Of course, it seemed like you were a bit a bit uncomfortble wehn Larry was showing your speech at the Race for Hope and your music videos. I also felt for you when you were answering questions about your brother's death. It must have been really hard. Other than that, you did a really good job. Can't wait to see you at Owens and Allegan! You and the guys have a safe trip on the rest of the tour! xoxo

David - I loved seeing you - you are so articulate, so SMART. American Idol is so lucky having you as one of their winners - the best spokesman they could have ever dreamed of.

But I noticed something that may be something you might want to work on. You seem to have the habit of touching your face and nose many times while being interviewed. It's a bit distracting and doesn't fit with how professional you are otherwise. (to be honest, I've only noticed it in one other interview, so possibly it was just a fluke)

David~ You we're very composed and well spoken throughout the interview. Larry King however is an idiot and I suggest you never do his show again. Many of his personal questions concerning your brothers dealth we're in my mind in extremely poor taste and you looked very uncomfortable when he replayed your speech at the race in D.C. ( I felt uncomfortable for you)! I think it comes down to the fact that King is a very poor journalist, he asks the cheap, seedy questions in his interviews and hopes to get more viewers that way. I have to agree with the person who wrote "Questions Larry King should have asked". I would love to see you do the Bonnie Hunt Show, she is a class act! Ok, enough of my ranting I think I made my point!

I want to congratulate you on your album. I like it more all the time. I hope you will find an acting opportunity. I think your a natural talent! Hope your tour comes to Flagstaff, AZ !!

heyy david,

i think u did an amazing job on the larry king interview last nite. I think Larry some difficult questions for u but u handled it very well. and u did amazing. =]

All I have to say is David, how brave you are to go on national television and talk about something so personal and devastating. You handled the interview with true grace and pride for your brother. You are truely a champion for the cause and to share your story only inspires others who are battling. You and your family are in all our thoughts and prayers as you continue to heal.

I have to agree with what a lot of the other people are saying. What an amazing display of strength and courage. It is amazing to watch you David without feeling moved one way or the other. You take us fans on a journey every single time we see you. Whether is is funny because of your wicked sense of humor, to introspection because of your lyrics or sadness with your grief. You make me want to be a better person. To have your unique ability. You always say nothing happens by chance, and it is your spirit (and talent) that has brought you this far.
