It's been an amazing year for David Cook and now the proof is in the numbers! David Cook's self-titled release makes it to #13 on The Billboard 200 Best of 2009 and makes it to #4 on The Billboard Top Rock Albums of 2009. Congratulations to David!

David has second highest debut of all the idols if you look at BB200 rankings !!!
Because I saw how DCTR ranked #13 on the BB200 year end rankings, I looked up the other winners of AI. I think this is a good comparison because it takes into account differences in record sales from year to year. Anyway, I found that DCTR at #13 was the second highest debut if you look at rankings in the BB200 Year end charts. I was pleasantly a bit surprised by this. The first highest was Carrie Underwood, at #1.
Here is what I found , I've listed the year, artist, and ranking on the Billboard 200 year end chart for that year:

2004 Ruben Studdard – #31
2005 Fantasia – #27
2006 Carrie Underwood #1
2007 Taylor Hicks #74

One of the reasons I did this was that I keep reading articles saying that the record sales from AI have gone down the past few years, but knowing DCTR was # 13, I wondered how the other Idols ranked. I looked the numbers up on Billboard.com,

It must feel truly amazing to be doing what you so clearly love to do. David I was taken with your voice the first time I heard it. As American Idol progressed I knew you were the one and I am so glad that America agreed.(season 7 was the only season I voted) I am so pleased to hear that your first album was well received. I can truly say that I love every song on your album. I saw you perform in Hammond,IN at the Venue on December 8th. It was awesome to see you perform as if it were you very first performance. Continue to dig what you're doing and your fans will do the same. I wish you much success in the future,both personally and professionally.On a personal note- I admire you for your efforts to raise funds for cancer research. I do the same on behalf of my mom for pancreatic cancer research. As you know the loss of a family member is diffcult,but participating in those types of events sort of eases the pain. don't understand adult contemporary
I don't understand this adult Contemporary category (sp). I understand it to be music that more or less only adults listen to. They only play him on our local stations on adult contemporary stations, yet other songs from these adult comtemporary stations are also played on the pop/rock or variety stations. My usual favorite radio station maybe played Light on a handful of times and have never heard come back to me on there and I emailed them asking about it with no response. It's like they have something against him. there's one station where they play come back to me all of the time. I don't get it.
I'm glad they did give props for David in rock also. That's where he should be. Love ya David. Congrats!
Now I wish there was a way for people who don't get to hear him on the radio to see this. We would have tons of new fans because they'd say "hey, this guy must be good".
