Hello from Manila! Last night was truly awesome - a perfect summer night complete with clear skies you can see stars lighted by fireworks. The gods were smiling on us -no rain at all like what was happening the whole week.
What made it awesome is listening to the powerful voice of David Cook. Whoever said listening to him was akin to a human cello was absolutely right. Acoustic or with full band - his voice cuts through and can make you listen to the words. The best of the night was the full band ABMB, sped up and rocking. The excitement for that was off the hook - every cellphone whipped up to record the whole thing! ADAM was also emotional for me, I know what it meant for David to do that and I'm glad Archie returned to sing the whoas!
I watched from the nosebleed section with my family - a picnic like atmosphere is there- more languid than the shrieking at the front. There were free food/ drinks being offered by food companies, we were given free posters of DC and blue pin (that says "I Love David Cook") and even free body lotion (Hah!). My teen age daughter and niece were excited because this is their first concert ever. Standing up for 5 hours is a strain though, but it was worth it. David was just a dot on the stage so we relied heavily on the jumbotrons. But even with the distance, we frequently notice Kyle's hair whipping in the hair or Joey's jump - daughter was impressed with how high he can jump. Neal got a lot of face time especially the banter about marriage part. All in all, it was good imprint on the mind that this is a rock band.
If memory serves me right ( and I could be wrong!), he changed some lyrics in Declaration - we will see once the clear youtubes are up. Instead of" I wear your heart upon my sleeve" it was " I wear MY heart....". Also watch out for Little Lies, there were interactions with Dr. and Dave changing or emphasizing lyrics that said "so I could be be with everyone of you!" shouting to the crowd. He was really finding ways that all of us in the back will not feel left out. AND I think this is where the learning curve for David and what he got from this - the challenge of making the 40,000 crowd feel him. The radio hits like ABMB, Light on, Avalance and CBTM were really the crowd favorites. I got the feeling that for casual fans, its the song that they know via radio, crossed the distance because everybody is singing along to these songs.
But casual fans or uber fans, by the time ADAM ended, people around me were saying, "More! More!" Clearly, one hour or so of David Cook is not enough.
