I'm a fan (and you should be too) because...
He's just freakin' awesome to watch on-stage.
1. Contrary to what Simon & Nigel believe, David has this captivating presence and charisma while on stage, and it shines in his performances. Looking back at the performance that started the whole 'charisma' ruckus- the first one I ever watched all those months ago and made my initial prediction- how can you not see personality and charisma in that? "All Right Now" is still one of my favorite performances of David's, although it took a while for me to make the connection between that scruffy rocker guy in the black t-shirt to the exquisite performer dressed all in white to the emotional new winner of American Idol. This man holds the audience in the palm of his hand when he is on stage. He was BORN to be on that stage, and he knows it and his confidence (not c0ckine$$) shines through. Watching him peform his magic LIVE is an indescribable experience- although we've all tried to put the feelings into words that simply do not do him justice.
2. The man has a voice that sends shivers up your spine and eyes that dig deep into your heart. He doesn't just sing the words, he FEELS them. Especially when he was the one that wrote them- Analog Heart is simply astonishing for an independent album. He is a wonderful artist, but to call him 'talented' would be the understatement of the century. I mean, he sings, plays guitar, writes LYRICS, and dreams up his own music. Come on, people. How many of today's "pop" sensations can claim that?! He is what real music is all about- songs that can stand the test of time, that hold true across decades of change and countless fads.
3. His devotion and love for his family and friends is beyond heart-warming. When I found out that David hired his friend Neal (Dr.) from his MWK days to be his guitar player....my respect for him increased hundred-fold. I hate it when people get too full of themselves and forget the people that supported and cared about them prior to their sky-rocketing success. But this act just solidified his 'good-guy' status for me.
4. He's a GOOF and he's smart. I love a guy (well, people in general) with a sense of humor, and his is top-notch. The whole Mavid bit, the quips, the ability to roll with the punches on stage (his Dallas banter with the guy mocking his facial expressions was PRICELESS), and his endless goofy faces had me laughing all summer. His affinity for crosswords and vocabulary let me know that he's not a dumb-a$$, which is good because ignorance/stupidity is one of my major pet peeves. His maturity and ability to handle himself in front of media cameras, in interviews, and with rude people astounds me. My temper would have gotten the better of me if I was in his shoes.
5. And yeah, he's good-looking. I didn't know that at first- the initial video I saw of him on Idol was blurry and grainy. I had no idea what he looked like, I only knew how amazing he sounded. But yeah, why ignore the two-ton elephant in the room? He's gorgeous. It's simply an added bonus of his appeal.
Great memories....
What a fantastic year this has been. All the places I've been, the people I've met, the experiences I've had.... all of them are thanks to David and his music. I've never been able to pinpoint what made me go to all those shows, but I do know that these songs just make me so ridiculously happy. And within the past year, I definitely needed something to perk up my spirits and give me something to look forward to. Thanks, David, for helping make the last year of my life bearable.
By the way, my bank account and credit cards would like a word or two with you. LoL.
