Dear David,
There I was, just an average person, working the daily grind, settling down to watch some escapist TV, along with millions of others, when I got hooked! You caught my interest immediately, when I saw you perform your first ("Livin' on a Prayer") audition.
Your voice resonated with such raw emotion! And the sweet and humorous way you responded to Simon's (I'm sorry, but...dumb,) comment about friends never wanting the best for you...was priceless! You're so above that...
But three yesses, and the rest was History!
Watching you perform on Idol was always the highlight of the show..
David, you said at the onset, that you were an open book...
And I truly enjoyed turning every page of that fascinating book!
Here's why...
~The courage you showed by putting yourelf out there, heart and soul, in front of millions (and the judges) to show us the passion you have for your chosen craft. That had to be scary at times, but you never let it show!
~The grace with which you responded to criticisms (mostly unfounded, in my opinion) showed that your belief in your own musical vision could not be shaken. You always seemed to rise above it, and keep it in perspective.
~The modesty and humility you showed by giving so much credit to the other Idols, your teachers, your family, the judges, the fans...but you, David, were the one who worked so hard and poured yourself in to the long, grueling hours that resulted in a string of ultimatly fantastic performances.
~The self-deprocating humor you showed, making fun of your own hair, clothes, and general goofiness. You are imperfectly perfect,...love that!
~The open-minded spirit you adopted, letting the stylists "play" with your look week after week. But, seriously, no one wears a black tee, jeans and that sexy scruff like you, D....
It's that simple!
~The depth and diversty you've shown over your entire musical journey is amazingly vast for a man of your young years. Your Axium works, Analog Heart, your live performances...each time I discovered another recording of yours, it was a thrill...
~And last, but certainly, not least, David, is the way you've nurtured the gift of Talent you were born with. Your voice is pure, and true, and makes me melt! The poetry of your lyrics have truly touched me, excited me, comforted me, and inspired me, in countless ways.
So, in closing, am I still "just and average person?"
No, I'm an extremely grateful David Cook Fan!
And life being what it is, a Pecking Order, like your song suggests, I will probably never have the good fortune to meet you... ( I can dream, can't I?)
But if I ever did, I would want nothing from you...
Just to look into your eyes, shake your hand, and say "Thank You...and I Love You..."
~J.
my Sincere Condolences
To the Cook Family...
May all of the Love You have for Adam reflect back to You from Heaven...
Respectfully,
Janet
