Since I buy cimorene's indictment of how the economics of the newspaper industry have left local papers with reviewers spread too thin across all entertainment media, let's supplement the How to Write an Off-site Whatsit piece with specifics on setting up a reviewer to better understand what he or she is seeing.

The Peoria Q&A triggered another round of "but if Cook's smart enough to do this, he's smart enough to do better than this." I think this time, I've finally covered everything. Personally, I would have died of boredom months ago if forced to tackle these questions over and over, but tackling them more effectively ought to shift the balance of questions to issues that Cook, as a musician, might find more interesting to talk about while at the same time making him more interesting to not-yet-fans.

Since I brought up Twitter in my prior post, let's do an exciting typology of reasons for people to follow a given feed.
- Pseudo-intimacy. This is the "follow someone's life" element that I believe is primarily fannish and replaces the gossip press. It's not useless in establishing one's persona and credibility. To the extent that Cook visibly networks with other musicians and such, it also has value in reminding their fans of his existence.

The Access Atlanta interview is one where I greatly liked every specific answer, both for content and for phrasing, but was left with an oddly uncomfortable feeling that Cook could do better.

What's This?
This is a handy guide for fans who want to spread the word about Cook and the band on non-fan sites, focusing on promoting him as a serious rock musician and (through our actions) working to dispel the myth that Cook's fans are a bunch of estrogen-crazed desperate housewives with no musical knowledge.

Never mind!
I hereby completely concede your central point, based on personal experience, as I think I provided three (bad) examples of the contaminating effect of exposure to others' opinions all by myself yesterday. I'm not sure a more unifying approach wouldn't have worked, if enforced, back when Cook made the plea -- though I'm biased because I think he was ethically right, also that it would then have broken power bases and thus slowed some of the "I'm the best fan ever" competition -- but the discourse has reified now, and that's a different playing field.
