I've watched AI since season two, and I've always been amused and entertained by the show. I voted (a few times) for other contestants in years past, but really, it was just a show to me. Until David. I remember his audition, and how I thought he had a great voice, but thought the fauxhawk was a little odd (but definitely eye-catching, for sure). I remember "Happy Together" and "All Right Now," but at the time, I was still eyeing a certain good-looking Aussie and a kid with a wonderful set of pipes on him. And then there was "Hello," and everyone else fell by the wayside. David Cook became my number one favorite. The emotion he brought to the song -- and the emotion he stirred in me when he sang it -- was something I'd never encountered before. Not in any other AI contestant, not really in ANY other singer. And then, on the night of "Billie Jean," I must say that I was totally blown away. I literally sat up and leaned toward the TV during that performance, slack-jawed. WOW. It was then that the obsession became full-blown, and I began posting on the forums, searching the Internet for information on this person, and voting hardcore for two hours every Tuesday night. Everything I found out about David - from his prior music to his affection for his brothers to his sense of humor - only made me admire him more. (I've yet to find out anything about him that I find even the slightest bit distasteful. And trust me, I've done the research.)
I -- and many others out there -- have tried to figure out why this man -- this singer, this performer, this artist -- has such a mesmerizing quality about him. And I have to agree with Paula's conclusion: David is the whole package. There's not just one thing about him that attracts us to him. It's everything combined. The voice. The lyrical ability. The way he performs on stage. His personality. His looks. His charm and his sex appeal. His sense of humor. His caring, his giving, his drive and determination. The joy he exudes in doing what he loves. The way he shares his heart and soul with us through his music.
And it's not just him, but it's what he does to us and for us. He has made me love music again, and through this love, I have come to enjoy life more. His music moves me, it makes my soul happy, it makes me sing. What more can I ask?
I am a David Cook fan, and I will be for life. I'm here for the ride. And what a ride it's been so far. I can't wait to see where we go next!
