Singer-songwriter, actor, and platinum-selling recording artist David Cook’s highly anticipated EP, The Looking Glass, was released today. The six-track EP features all new material that was written by Cook over the last year and produced by Andy Skib.
David, once again, involved his fans in the creation and release of his new EP through a successful pre-order campaign via Cook’s newproject website – giving them the opportunity to follow the progress of the EP and have access to exclusive merch, specialty items and experiences. David took a moment to thank his fans in a blog update, “Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all of you! This EP was such a different challenge, and I couldn’t have done it without your support…”
In a recent interview with PopDust, Cook talked a bit about the writing process, sharing “I’ve grown more comfortable in my own skin as a songwriter. You take the blinders off, and there’s more periphery. I still try to challenge myself and find new ways to say things and new tones and sounds. I think the idea of one-upping each release is kind of how I’ve attacked it. I don’t ever want to be an artist that lives statically.”
This past March, Cook premiered the EP’s third single Fire via Parade Magazine: “‘Fire’ combines a driving rhythm with a jubilant sense of want that is palpable.” And in 2020, David released two singles from the EP. The first, Reds Turn Blue, is a nod to the manic highs (reds) and lows (blues) of anxiety, something David has struggled to overcome since his season seven win on American Idol. As David told People.com, “This song became a therapeutic process for me, as a way to personify my anxiety and make it something other than me — which in an odd way has helped me navigate my relationship with it.” And the second, Strange World, is “my homage to this year,” said David. “Staring out of windows at the world outside, feeling disconnected from it, and trying to find those moments that would normally exist outside, inside.”
In addition to his new EP, Cook will perform three shows, broadcast from Ocean Way Studios in Nashville via concert live streaming platform Mandolin: The Looking Glass EP release show on Sunday, April 18; Songs of Hope & Inspiration – a benefit for The National Brain Tumor Society on Sunday, May 2; The Ocean Way Acoustic Session on Sunday, May 16. All shows begin at 7 pm CT and include a 48-hour replay window. Tickets are available at boxoffice.mandolin.com.
Cook has also announced tour dates in the U.S. scheduled for September 2021, followed by his previously announced co-headline tour with Kris Allen billed as “Dave & Kris Go to Europe Acoustic Tour” scheduled for October 2021.
The Looking Glass is available now via Cook’s newproject website through April 23 and via all other digital retailers.
